ABTA offers round-the-clock support, protection, and expertise, making it easy for you to get advice whenever you need it.

What is the difference between ATOL & ABTA? ATOL and ABTA both offer protection schemes for the travelling public. The main difference between the two is what is included in that protection. ABTA covers package holidays that include rail, cruise or self-drive transport but does not offer protection for flight-based packages. ABTA also provides advice for people who believe their holiday package has been mis-sold and are seeking compensation.

ATOL covers package holidays that include flights- for example, a flight and accommodation package. If your travel company ceases trading, you will be entitled to a refund if you have not yet travelled. If you are on holiday at the time, you will be flown home with repatriation flights through ATOL. However, ATOL does not cover flights which have been purchased directly through the airline.

Another difference between the two is that ATOL is a compulsory licensing system run by the government, while ABTA is a voluntary scheme that travel companies can sign up to if they meet the requirements.

Top 5 airlines serving from Glasgow to Lapland

The food was pretty good and the crew were excellent. It would have been excellent all round but for screaming children. Six hours at least of a 10 hr flight. Mostly 1 child clearly on the spectrum and probably ADHD but I really felt for the parents and grandparents who were obviously struggling and doing the best they could under the circumstances. No reflection on the airline of course and we all need to be more tolerant with these challenges . Slept for 15 hrs when I got home.

The boarding experience was worst ever. Single aerobridge used for boarding and deboarding which led to lot of chaos. Food options were not great. First flight delayed by more than 3 hours which led to missing of the next flight we were stuck at Dubai airport by more than 6 hours

The plane was very old and uncomfortable. Service was very slow!

Superb check in, lounge, boarding and flight experience. On time departure and before time arrival. Couldn’t have asked for more

Different rules going from Dubai to Ahmedabad vs going from Ahmedabad to Dubai Horrible, only 1 baggage was allowed to carry on and no personal bag, i had to put personal bag inside carry on

I see I gave my review for this flight on my flight Zürich to Dubai rather than Dubai to Singapore.

The food on this flight was just terrible. I have a wheat allergy so when booking I ask for gluten free options. The food given was inedible. The bread rolls were rock hard. Once board I was given one and the only thing I could do was eat the chicken slice and piece of tomato on it. Also given was 4 small cubes of fruit, 2 watermelon and 2 pineapple and a bottle of water. My husband had a regular meal and found his very average. Then the evening meal was also disappointing! Some dried out fish with spinach and 3 sticks of dry white sweet potato. No sauce …. 😳 again, the same fruit and water. The passengers had to wait a long time for the dinner food to be served. My husband just wanted to eat and go to sleep so he was a bit annoyed about that. We got off the plane and I was feeling quite hangry. Not enough food or a good eating experience. Emirates used to be a flight we looked forward to… now we are considering looking at other companies for the future.

Flights were both delayed. No luggage on arrival for the whole plane and no contact since submitting a PIR.

Flight never took off. Boarded after multiple 30 minutes interval delays for hours.. then after an hour onboard, captain announce cancellation and back on the bus to the terminal with no information and everyone to fend for self.. Emirates did absolutely nothing to communicate either electronically or announcement. It’s unprecedented I know with the flood but lack of communication creates anxiety and extra pain for staff. Emirates should do better.. no supervisors monitoring floor and passengers abusing them which isn’t right but should Have had supervisors monitoring

The experience was not as pleasant returning as leaving. Went through clearance twice, crew was not as customer focused.

KLM is my favourite airline. Never ever let us down.Staff are first class.

Pretty bad. Food was awful. drinks were scarce, as if drinking an extra drink would ruin the airline. attendants were not very helpful. likely Dutch "directedness" (I cannot be bothered). Crammed flight. Entertainment in very minimal dosage. Almost all old movies and series with 1-3 episodes only. Very limited number of options available. Jesus!! it seems you need to bring your own entertainment these days even of flights that are 13 hrs long!! I would and I will avoid in the future!

Quick and efficient as always. Air France managed to loose and damage my luggage that never made it onto my KLM flight.

The flight was again delayed for more then 2 hours with some lousy explanation regarding the reason of the delay. Although the flight was delayed for more than 2 hours, no refreshments were offered (according to EU regulations). Last 4 flights on KLM - always at least 2 hrs late. So be prepared that you cannot plan anything with KLM.

We left one hour late because of technical difficulties. The economy comfort seats are great for the price. The crew was mediocre, they do not provide a pleasant experience, they just deliver food and drinks and give orders, not very amicable, no service and hospitality focus.

Booked connecting flights with KlM. My serving flight was the furthest part of the airport. On arrival in Zurich. My two cases arrived but only one carry on belong to my son. His three suitcase didn't arrive. After enquiring we discovered they were still in Amsterdam. We landed at 11.12. We eventually left the airport just after one.

no issues at all... Kudos to the food. This time was really really good

The food was ok. The crew seemed like they were cranky. I had one guy get mad at me for passing in between the storage area to get to the other toilet. I can understand if it's not allowed but reprimanding me like I'm a student saying "This is the last time!" was not appropriate. During my meal time, there was a French family around me. No problems there but when we usually have meals, they are supposed to put their chair in the upright position. These people did not do it and the steward did not tell them to raise their seat in the upright position. However, I was told to do so! So, me and another person next to me had to eat with the monitor almost touching our faces. Furthermore, a lady in front of me was putting her feet up and preventing another elder passenger from putting her seat back. To make it worse, she was continuously hitting her back into her seat, shaking my monitor while I was watching a movie. A crew member did speak to her about it but then she accused me of pushing her seat forward! The crew member gave me a death stare and told me to stop pushing the seat forward. I did not even touch her seat at all, if I did, she would know it. Her boyfriend also stood up and tried to push her seat even further past the maximum decline to no avail. None of these people were reprimanded but the steward, some bald guy, was extremely friendly with them and did not even try to instruct them to do anything until it was time to land. I resisted the urge to really argue with them because I would have obviously been seen as the aggressor (I have no idea why). I hardly said anything on this flight except "more wine please" and "sorry" if I bumped into someone accidentally. Overall, it was an annoying flight and I had to resist the urge to yell at the steward and the people he was overly friendly with. The happiest moment of this flight was leaving it.

It was nice to be on a legacy airline, people try at least.

I travel frequently. The flight was late again... KLM should really try and be on time

A very poor experience which is a surprise as Lufthansa has such a good reputation. Absolutely no leg room in economy - it was very very uncomfortable - the video/tv screen was not working, food was poor but that is standard for airline food. We were assigned seating in the back despite having paid for seats at the front of the plane - it does not appear Lufthansa will refund these. Flight attendants were generally nice and helpful. Pilots were reassuring.

Other than problems with checking in and uploading passport info everything was great. It would be nice to be able to manually input passport info. Often while traveling the bandwidth has problems uploading pictures

Give at least coffee or juice as it is an international flight.

Tiny, cramped seats with minimum leg room and hard armrests. Basic needs like a seat and luggage came with an additional charge. Budget airline amenities with premium airlune cost. I won't use this airline again.

Generally everything was OK,except the food but that seems to be a normal tendency for all the airlines nowadays

Boarding process non existent. No WiFi. No entertainment. Cramped old plane. Worst Kosher meal ever presented on a flight.

There was a screaming child behind our seats. This prevented us from getting any sleep during the night.

my flight was at 3:45 after that they delayed to 4:40 I have transit from Chicago to Frankfurt and Frankfurt to vina airport from vina to Erbil buy the Time I come to Frankfort my other flight left me I have to stay at airport all day with my 5 kids ask for help no one help me I spent at airport almost $450 just for food was horrible flight ever I call and ask for hotel from united customer service they been telling me we can’t provide any hotel I need some refund or fixed my flight when I return to America need some one respond my email

Boarding was a zoo. London ground crew was useless. Poor communication regarding where to line up. We were group 2, and everyone was jammed in together. Ground crew didn’t seem to care.

Horrible flight attendant in back of economy that screamed at me, have already reported to United. Horrible food - for Gluten free, why would you assume the person is vegetarian? I was served some kind of horrible curry bean paste and multiple cold rolls and soggy vegetables with no seasoning... um no!

Delayed almost 2 hours sitting on plane. No updates at all from flight deck and virtually no updates from cabin crew

Be sure to check bags for 23 kg,.(50 lbs) Coming from US I chose the wrong size luggage weight when I checked in on my phone, and had to pay more when I dropped it off

The flight was delayed for over 1 hour. The boarding process is appalling making you wait for 30 minutes in the passage leading to the outside door without any seats.

The on board air steward really made the journey. He was very entertaining

I was disappointed there was a 40 minute delay to flight

The trip itself was good. I have given only good as rating, because my first flight has been cancelled by a different airline and that caused disruption in my trip. I spent over ten hours in Luton airport and that caused me high tiredness, sickness, because of the very early initial trip. easyJet staff has been professional and friendly.

Very pleasant crew, working hard on a full plane. Delay by a broken seat. However crew made back 60% of the delay.

Delayed and then further delayed with no announcement made so that all the passengers (who were standing in the jetty) could hear. We stood there for well over 20 minutes. We were further delayed through weather but no one explained that to us until the pilot made an announcement when finally on board

easyJet need to ensure that whether pre-booking seats or not children aren’t split from their parents the crew spent the majority of boarding asking passengers to move to accommodate two families. Surely the system identifies minors on a booking !!!!! It was all very frustrating to watch and caused delays which I’m sure cost easyJet more in the long run rather that automatically allocating families with minors seats together automatically.

Not great! Rude staff in London and the worse baggage reclaim I’ve ever seen. Great staff in flight but doubt I’ll fly with them again

The crew were very friendly and helpful. Also, the airline was very strict and not very helpful when I wanted to start by boarding from Heathrow airport instead of Glasgow international airport. I stayed 10 hours in the airport and no hotel or any form of compensation was provided. That sucks.

We're waiting an BA flight being operated from London to Raleigh

Could be better in all aspects. Poor communication. Rude staff

The seats are comfortable enough, but the layout in business is wacky. The boarding process is disorganized. The flight attendants are friendly enough, but the food and snacks are sub par.

Crew was great. Food definitely top 10% for airline food. Seat was comfortable and legroom was good, BUT the seats were too close together and I was touching arms with the guy next to me the entire flight. Also, I had an aisle seat, and although my arm was pulled right up to my side, I was bumped by passengers and crew at least 6x. I'm looking into business class next time. One last note: the whole British-AA airlines partnership thing was confusing. In 2024 this should be seamless, and passengers shouldn't need this # for BA and that # for AA. There should be a single unified way of messaging from the airlines and checking things for the passengers.

The flight was delayed by more than an hour and my trousers were stuck by chewing gum that was on the back of front seat. The crew was helpful in providing me with some ice to remove the chewing gum and upgraded my seat to business class

British Airways, shame on you the worst flight experience ever!! Avoid at all cost if you can!!! My flight was apparently overbooked and I was refused to fly, apparently this is normal, nothing unusual and I should take it easy and still be happy and smiling when they trying to offer me a stand by ticket for the next flight!!! 🤯🤯🤯 Never ever again thank you very much what the crop service it is there's something fundamentally wrong going with this company I was unable to check in online I was unable to download the receipt I was unable to manage my booking I was waiting in the queue for the luggage when all the desks had some it issues I was refused to fly what else could go wrong??? 🤯🤯🤯

First of all, the flight was delayed. Then at the gate they told me I got upgraded. I told them that if is not a window sit (like the one I purchased already) I am not interested. They still switch me stating: "is more room for the legs". Came to board on airplane to find out is a middle row sit. I explained the stewardess that I have a spine health problem therefore I need a window sit to lean against the wall. She put me to wait by the airplane door till the person who now got my sit will come aboard and if he/she will agree to switch sits then I will get back my window sit. I got lucky that the person agreed. Next was the food. I don't expect restaurant quality meal on a plane, but I do expect to be thoroughly cooked. The green beans in my meal were raw as can be making the meal uneatable. Thank God we got a piece of bread and some butter to last me for the +9 hours flight. Overall, my experience was awful, and I promised myself that even I have to pay more for the ticket I will never fly with British again.

Crew could not even try to accommodate my food request. Phone Charging USB thing was not working.

It's been a while since I've seen flight attendants who seem to enjoy their job. James was outstanding. He wasn't only friendly, but he also smiled sincerely as we worked with passengers. It was refreshing to see him and the other attendants.

Lapland? In a day? And back in time for supper?

Exceptionality is the basis of all adventures. Journeying to a new place and living the stories to be told is all part of the fun - and a Winter Wonderland day trip to Lapland is certainly exceptional: it’s a family adventure for the festive period.

From the moment the early morning alarm clock rings, there is great anticipation: a trip to Lapland to visit the REAL Father Christmas is no ordinary day! After descending from the clouds and seeing the sprawling snow-capped vastness of Lapland below, the excitement continues to build. This is a land of jolly snowball fights, perfect snow angels, and spritely tobogganing – and who can wait to get going?!

Of course, no trip to Lapland would be complete without calling in on Santa himself – you’ve travelled a long way to see him. Don’t forget to bring a letter, he’d love to know what’s on your Christmas wish list! But it’s not time to head home yet, not without trying your hand at the winter experiences that Lapland is famous for: husky sledding, snowmobiling, and a reindeer sleigh ride are all waiting to be sampled!

What an adventure! What memories! What fun!

For overnight stays in Lapland during the countdown to Christmas, you may like to consider our Snow is Falling holiday, or our Wonderful Christmas Time holiday for stays during the festive period itself.

Upon arrival in Lapland, you’ll be taken to collect your all-in-one thermal snow suits and winter boots – essential to keep warm in the Arctic climate, where temperatures can drop to a chilly -30C! And then, into the crisp snowscapes which Lapland is famed for.

All of our Winter Wonderland day trips take place in uncommercial, wilderness locations, unspoiled by mass-market tourism or crowds of Santa pilgrims. It’s an outdoors day, filled with Lapland’s favourite activities: snowmobiling, husky sledding, and a reindeer sleigh ride. Activities take place around a frozen river or a frozen lake – your base from which to set off on a search for Santa!

A warming lunch is included, and provides much needed energy for more playing in the snow. Hot inflight meals on both flights are also included, usually a breakfast on the outbound flight and a dinner on the return to the UK.

Frequently asked questions, what is the deposit.

To confirm the holiday, the deposit is £200 per person. The final balance is due ten weeks before departure, though these terms may differ if you have booked through a travel agent.

Is the day trip suitable for infants?

The majority of the day is spent outdoors in the snow and temperatures can plummet to -40c. Given the extremely cold weather conditions, we generally do not recommend the day trip for infants under the age of 2 since children feel the cold most.

What happens if there is a delay on the flight?

If there is a delay leaving the UK on the outbound flight, we will endeavour to delay the return inbound flight by the same duration, so you do not lose time in resort. A delay of the return flight is at the discretion of the operating captain and cannot always be guaranteed. If the delay to the outbound flight is likely to exceed three hours, it may be necessary to cancel the departure since we may not be able to provide a full day’s activities in resort, but such an occurrence is very rare.

What currency should I take?

The currency in Finland is the Euro. Many establishments in Nordic countries will not accept cash and only accept payment by debit or credit card. Please note that additional drinks throughout the day are not included.

What should I wear?

Temperatures can reach as low as -40c in the winter and so it is imperative that you bring adequate clothing for the weather. We provide a thermal all-in-one snow suit and snow boots on arrival in Lapland, but you should wear multiple under layers and bring hats, scarves and gloves (and plenty of pairs of socks!) We give further details of what to wear in our brochure and in the pre-departure booklet in the My Booking section of our website.

While the idea of a trip to Lapland is idyllic, for many of us an extended holiday in the cold is more fun in theory than practice.

But escorted tour operator, Newmarket Holidays is offering a unique day trip to Lapland that will fill everyone with Christmas spirit without involving an extended and pricey break - and they even provide thermal clothes, boots and equipment needed to keep warm in the snowy tundras.

Making the most of every last minute, the holiday company uses privately chartered planes to travel from the UK to Pajala in Swedish Lapland , leaving plenty of time for a husky ride, an exhilarating snowmobile experience and of course, a private meeting with the big man himself. A traditional hot lunch is also included.

Flying from Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff , East Midlands, Humberside, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Gatwick, Norwich and Teesside, festive fans will touch down in the Arctic Circle, before setting off to find Santa’s Village . With the place all to yourselves for the day, this is the very best way to experience a real-life winter wonderland.

Once everyone is wrapped up in their thermals, guests can take a magical ride in a traditional reindeer-drawn sleigh, a trip through the countryside pulled by real huskies and a thrilling snowmobile experience. There is also plenty of time for a quick toboggan ride and snowball fights are only ever a moment away.

After a hearty lunch, get ready to tread the 'secret path' through the forest to find Santa's log cabin home. Spending some private time with Santa is the perfect end to your authentic and intimate Lapland experience .

The Lapland Santa Experience Day Trip is proving to be a big hit with one of the many five-star reviews describing it as "magical". The happy traveller went on to say that the day trip was "Extremely well organised. Never stopped eating all day and lots of hot drinks available all day. The activities were amazing.

"The ladies that escorted us were absolutely fantastic and everything you would want from holiday representatives - kind, friendly, helpful. I can’t recommend this trip enough if anyone has the opportunity to treat themselves. The memories will last a lifetime."

First, let’s talk about the flight itself. The distance between Glasgow and Lapland is approximately 1,200 miles, which means that a direct flight would take around 3 hours and 30 minutes. However, most flights from Glasgow to Lapland will have at least one layover, which can add several hours to the journey. When preparing for a long flight, it’s important to pack wisely. You’ll want to bring a carry-on bag with all of your essentials, including your passport, travel documents, and any medications you need. You may also want to bring a change of clothes, as well as a jacket or sweater in case the plane gets cold. Don’t forget to pack some snacks and a refillable water bottle, as well as any entertainment you’ll need to pass the time, such as books, magazines, or a tablet.

Once you’re on the plane, it’s important to stay comfortable. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to slip on and off, as you’ll need to take them off during security checks. Consider bringing a neck pillow or a small blanket to help you sleep, as well as noise-cancelling headphones to block out any noise. If you’re prone to motion sickness, you may want to bring some medication or ginger chews to help settle your stomach.

During the flight, you’ll have plenty of time to relax and unwind. Take advantage of the in-flight entertainment system, which will likely include movies, TV shows, and music. You can also use this time to catch up on some reading or work, or simply take a nap. If you’re feeling restless, get up and stretch your legs every hour or so to prevent stiffness and improve circulation.

When you arrive in Lapland, you’ll likely be tired and jet-lagged. Take some time to rest and adjust to the time difference before diving into any activities or sightseeing. Drink plenty of water and eat healthy, nourishing foods to help your body recover from the long journey. And don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful scenery and unique experiences that Lapland has to offer!
