Strictly Come Dancing Live at Manchester’s AO Arena — tickets, dancers, stage times and more

The stage is set — are you?

Danny Jones

Strictly Come Dancing Live is coming back to Manchester for a double-header this weekend and we can’t wait to be back in the AO Arena.

There are very few things that make us as happy as getting in the mood for a full day of ballroom dancing, pageantry, more than a few glasses of fizz and all-around good vibes.

For anyone who hasn’t soaked up every last detail of the programme or might be tagging along to one of the two dates last minute, we thought we’d put together a quick event guide for you so you know what’s going on and when.

With Strictly Live ‘s first Manchester date of 2024 taking place this Saturday, 3 February and then again on Sunday, here’s everything you need to know.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Strictly Come Dancing Live (@strictlycomedancinglive)

Are there tickets left for Strictly Come Dancing Live?

You’re in luck: there absolutely is! You can still grab a fair few tickets in the back sections of the AO Arena from £42.50 as well as a handful in the lower tier of seats for around £65 on Saturday, but don’t worry if you’re busy that day, there are plenty of seats still going for Sunday’s showings.

You can even spring for the VIP suites in Electric Lounge if you fancy feeling a bit bougie and having been lucky enough to try it out a couple of times ourselves, we have to admit it’s well worth treating yourself for a special occasion.

You can grab yours HERE .

What’s the show’s format?

Directed again by Craig Revel Horwood and co., the 2024 Strictly Live Tour showcases all the choreography, live music and sparkle of the much-loved TV series, hosting both an afternoon and evening show on each day.

Seven celebrity contestants and their professional dance partners will twirl and shimmy their way across the AO Arena ballroom floor, ready for the tour judges to provide their wisdom and scores. Just as with last year’s tour, there will also be sign language interpreters for each show.

But it’s the audience who ultimately call the shots, voting for their favourites via text from within the arena, with a champion crowned at the end of every show. Just like the real thing only more compact.

Who’s dancing this year?

Whilst Strictly legends Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, and Craig Revel Horwood are returning to their judging seats once, with  It Takes Two ’s Janette Manrara also back as tour host, the lineup for Live performances changes each and every year and, just like show itself, that’s all part of the fun.

Taking the stage this year, the celebrity dancers include actor and model  Bobby Brazier , dancing with  Dianne Buswell ; tennis champion and presenter  Annabel Croft  with tour partner  Graziano Di Prima , journalist and broadcaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy   dancing with tour partner  Jowita Przystal , as well as fellow presenter  Angela Scanlon  dancing with  Carlos Gu .

Rounding out the 2024 Strictly Live Tour lineup are Ellie Leach  and  Vito Coppola, Angela Rippon  and  Kai Widdrington , along with Layton Williams  and  Nikita Kuzmin .

What are the stage times for Strictly Live Manchester?

As for when you’ll get to see all of the glitz and glamour, AO Arena will be opening its doors from 1pm and 6pm for the morning and evening shows, respectively, on Saturday and around 12 noon and then again at 5pm for the Sunday show.

That should give you plenty of time to make your way around the concourse, grab any food and drink you want for the show, as well as some stylish Strictly merch we hope, before finding your seat.

Saturday’s matinee show is due to start around 2:30pm and then reset for the evening show at 7:30pm, with Sunday’s programming kicking off from 1:30pm and then again at 6:30pm.

Parking and public transport for AO Arena

If you’re driving in for the show, there’s a large multi-storey car park based right next to the AO Arena, with access through the car park to the main entrance of the venue.

Trinity Way will be closed southbound between Great Ducie Street and Cheetham Hill Road for up to an hour as guests leave, but if you’re parking at the Arena itself you’ll still be allowed to exit during this time — just turn right and follow the diversions.

As for getting there via public transport, your nearest stop is Manchester Victoria, with trains and trams going directly into the station where you can then walk directly up the steps and straight into the attached Arena entrance, with plenty of bus stops and taxi bays right outside too.

  • A brand-new music festival is coming to Altrincham and the lineup is a pure throwback
  • Where to watch the 2024 Six Nations in Manchester city centre

And that should just about do you, the only thing left for you to do is get all dolled up and sparkly, sit back and enjoy Strictly Come Dancing Live in Manchester.

A huge Batman experience is swooping into Manchester this summer, offering fans a chance to see real props and costumes from the Warner Bros. archives.

The exclusive event will bring the cinematic world of Batman to life, through a series of themed rooms, exhibitions and a comic book and gaming area.

Batman Unmasked will be packed full of items from this iconic character’s film history, including (to name just a few) The Dark Knight , Joker, and The Batman .

Visitors will wander through a series of themed rooms that will bring Gotham City to life here in Manchester, with the massive Batman experience taking over Depot Mayfield this summer.

Batsuits worn by actors Robert Pattinson, Christian Bale and Michael Keaton will be displayed, alongside an extensive collection of original props and memorabilia.

Fans will even be able to see original vehicles from the hit franchise, including Tumbler and Batpod from The Dark Knight (2008), and the Batmobile and Batcycle from The Batman.

Then after passing through a series of walkways inspired by the various criminals of Gotham, you’ll arrive at The Rogue’s Gallery, a space devoted to DC Super-Villains.

The Batbike

Here there’ll be suits, props and weapons, like Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy ensemble, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn costume, Jim Carrey’s Riddler outfit and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze suit.

Heath Ledger’s infamous nurse uniform from The Dark Night, and Joaquin Phoenix’s red suit from Joker, will also be on display.

And as for younger Batman fans, there’ll be hidden facts to seek out, photo opportunities, and a free-flow comic book and gaming area.

The Batcave at Batman Unmasked in Manchester

Exclusive Batman Unmasked merchandise will be on sale at the retail store, including special Batman 85th Anniversary items alongside classic Batman items.

Batman Unmasked is coming to Manchester to mark the 85th anniversary of DC’s Caped Crusader, and will take place from 16 July until 26 August.

It will then head down to London’s Covent Garden, where it will be in residence through Batman Day on 21 September.

Ticket prices include discounted concession rates as well as savings for small groups of four, or larger groups of 10.

Sign up to the waitlist on 6 June and get priority access to ticket sales on 12 June before general on sale, 13 June.

Greater Manchester residents will soon be able to hop onboard a new train service and explore the Yorkshire Dales in all their glory.

Fancy an adventure this summer? Well, Northern could have exactly what you’re looking for, as the train company has decided to bring back the ‘Yorkshire Dales Explorer’ train after it proved to be so popular with passengers the last time it was out on its travels , and the new service is all set to depart for the first time this Saturday (8 June).

Departing from Rochdale and making its way to Ribblehead, the newly-launched service will call at a wide range of local stations on its way – including Manchester Victoria , Salford Crescent, Bolton , Blackburn, Clitheroe, Hellifield, and Settle.

Adult return tickets from Manchester Victoria to Ribblehead will set you back just £25, which means that ramblers and nature lovers will be able to enjoy a day out in the Dales at a pretty-affordable price.

Anyone who buys a ticket for the ‘Yorkshire Dales Explorer’ service this summer will be able to make the journey between the two stations in around two hours, and travel along a route that features some seriously stunning scenery in the process.

Trains will depart from Rochdale at 7:52am and 2:52pm on Saturdays, calling at 18 stops before reaching Ribblehead, while the return trains will depart from Ribblehead at 11:08am and 6:05pm.

Northern’s Regional Director, Craig Harrop, has praised the “spectacular” new train service.

“We’re excited to introduce this brand-new service that will allow customers to travel into the heart of the Dales at a reasonable price this summer,” he commented.

Lizzie Bushby, who works within the Recreation Management team at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, also added that the new Northern service will not only provide opportunities for North West residents to visit the National Park this summer, but the journey itself will also be a “great experience” and there’ll be “lots to do” when people arrive.

  • Greater Manchester train station named ‘worst’ in UK – with three others in top 10
  • The Yorkshire Dales spa with an outdoor infinity pool that’s just been named one of the best in the UK
  • This is why dozens of new CCTV cameras have been installed at Manchester Victoria station

The Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour is back for 2024

strictly come dancing tour 2024 manchester

It's time to dust off those scoring paddles and get those dancing shoes ready, because the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour is back for 2024!

Strictly legends Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, and Craig Revel Horwood return to take up their judging seats and It Takes Two ’s Janette Manrara is back as tour host.

The Strictly Live Tour will dazzle audiences in January and February next year at arenas up and down the UK for 30 scintillating shows. Tickets will go on sale at 10.00am on Friday 22 September from StrictlyComeDancingLive.com .

The tour will open at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena on 19 January for the first of five spectacular performances. Then the glitz, the glamour and the sequins, together with the all-important celebrity contestants and their professional dancer partners, will travel to some of the UK’s biggest entertainment venues leaving a trail of glitter in their wake: Utilita Arena Sheffield, Utilita Arena Newcastle, OVO Hydro Glasgow, M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, First Direct Arena Leeds, AO Arena Manchester, Motorpoint Arena Nottingham and finally The O2 in London, culminating on 11 February.

Directing the Strictly Live Tour is TV Judge Craig Revel Horwood, who will once again be creating a dance extravaganza like no other, featuring a stellar line-up of talent from the current series of the smash hit BBC show, recently named Best Talent Show at the 2023 National Television Awards. And of course, the Strictly Live Tour Band and singers will be wowing arena audiences with their show-stopping tunes and harmonies. Celebrities and professional dancers joining the tour will be announced soon.

Strictly’s Head Judge Shirley Ballas said: “I’m delighted to be judging the Strictly Live Tour once again - there is never a dull moment alongside Anton and Craig! The audiences are always electric, the atmosphere is amazing, and Anton has promised me lots of surprises! I can’t wait for January next year when we get the show on the road!”

Anton Du Beke said: "It was my first Strictly tour earlier this year and I was blown away by the scale and spectacle of the live experience. So, I'm thrilled to be back with all the gang next year and look forward to another incredible tour."

Craig Revel Horwood said: “ What better way to start the new year than with the Strictly Live Tour! It’s going to be gorgeous to be back on the road with Shirley, Anton, and Janette. Joining us to entertain you all will be an A-MAZ-ING line-up of celebrities and professional dancers from this year’s series. And, as you would expect, we will have a few extra special surprises in store for the arena audiences along the way. One word, three syllables - FAB-U-LOUS!”

Janette Manrara said: “What an incredible way to kick off 2024! I am always so honoured to host the live tour as it brings everything that viewers love about the Strictly TV show to thousands of people around the UK. It’s a great night out for all the family - I just can’t wait!”

Strictly Come Dancing returned to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday 16 September for its 21 st series with an all-new exciting celebrity and pro dancer line-up and an array of incredible dance routines. Strictly's Live Tour celebrates all the joy of the TV series, showcasing the amazing choreography and fantastic live music that Strictly is synonymous with – providing audiences of all ages up and down the country the opportunity to experience everything they love about the TV show live on stage in their hometown or city.

Not only are the arena audiences treated to the spectacular roof-raising routines, but they are also granted the power to decide who wins the coveted Glitterball Trophy at the end of each show. The tour judges will of course provide their invaluable wisdom, advice and scores at each performance - we couldn’t stop them if we tried - but the ultimate power lies with the audience. A text for their favourite couple is all it takes; their votes will decide who wins!

As with the 2023 tour, each performance will host a British Sign Language interpreter, who will be displayed on two very large screens on either side of the stage so that audiences can book tickets and sit almost anywhere in the arena to enjoy the experience with family and friends.

Strictly Come Dancing Live at AO Arena - times, what to expect, line-up, voting and parking

S trictly Come Dancing's celebrities and professionals have zipped their sequin-festooned costumes back on to head out on the 2024 live arena tour. The incredible live shows will bring to life all the magic of the hit BBC entertainment show on a grand arena stage.

After more than 10 million viewers tuned into the Series 21 finale at Christmas , audiences can once again see some of their favourites go toe-to-toe in ballroom battle. Seven of the stars from the series will join their professional partners to twirl their way around the UK for 30 spectacular performances across nine huge venues on the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour.

The tour kicked off at Birmingham's Utilita Arena last month, and stops off at Manchester's AO Arena across the weekend of February 3 - 4. After that the tour continues on to Nottingham and then its final run of shows in London.

Try MEN Premium now for FREE... just click here to give it a go.

The show is hosted by former Strictly Come Dancing stalwart and It Takes Two co-presenter Janette Manrara for the third year in a row.

And judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood (who is also on directing duties) will be presiding over the proceedings from behind their on-stage table. They will be dishing out advice, good-natured critiques and, the contestants will be hoping, some of those coveted perfect tens.

But it's the audience, not the judges, who ultimately get to decide who wins the shiny Glitterball Trophy at the end of each show. Shirley, Anton and Craig will be weighing in with their scores but it's the public vote - delivered via text from the comfort of their seats in the arena as they choose their favourite couple - that really counts.

Reigning champs Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola will be recreating their sizzling chemistry with their American Smooth and Paso Doble routines, and Ellie is still basking in the glory of coming first.

"It feels like I've just woken up from the best dream ever and I can't believe that we won," says the former Coronation Street star. "I didn't realise how much it would have an impact on my personal life in terms of how I've changed. I've become a lot more confident and resilient."

Ellie, from Audenshaw, says: "I can't wait to get the outfits back on, the hair and make-up, and go out there and have a great time. And I love dancing with Vito. From the day that we met I knew we'd have a laugh but we also worked really hard and he's an amazing teacher."

Vito returns the compliment, saying: "I can't even describe how proud I am of Ellie's progress. She'd never danced before but every week she got better and better.

"It's like we're two pieces of the same puzzle and when you put those two pieces together they fit perfectly. We had the best time and now we get to do it again on the tour."

Fellow finalist Layton Williams , from Bury , promises to bring "everything that I gave you every Saturday night but bigger and better - with more fabulousness and more drama. I just want to get out on that stage and have the best time ever. It's about having a ball and serving the audience some brilliant entertainment."

The musical theatre and TV star has toured with the likes of Rent and Everybody's Talking About Jamie. "But only to audiences of 3,000 max. Double or quadruple the numbers and you've got one happy Layton! I've never performed in an arena before, so it's a bucket-list moment for me."

Here's everything you need to know about the tour, including the full line-up, the dances, the judges and what to expect.

The Strictly stars - and what they'll dance

Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola - dancing American Smooth and Paso Doble

Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin - dancing the Quickstep and Paso Doble

Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell - dancing the Samba and Viennese Waltz

Annabel Croft and Graziano Di Prima - dancing the American Smooth and Samba

Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu - dancing the Charleston and the Argentine Tango

Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington - dancing the Argentine Tango and Cha-Cha-Cha

Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Jowita Przystał - dancing the Cha Cha Cha and Quickstep

What to expect at the live show

The seven headlining couples will get to perform their favourite routines from the TV series in two separate halves of the show. After each dance, the judges will deliver their scores - but this is just a guide as at every performance the audience get to vote for their favourites via text.

Information will be beamed onto the screens during the interval on the numbers you can use to vote for your favourite contestants, and how much each vote will cost.

Audiences can also expect new dances and eye-popping group numbers from Professional dancers Nadiya Bychkova, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Robbie Kmetoni, Jake Leigh and Nancy Xu will all be taking part in the supersized live shows.

At the finale of the show, it will be announced by show host Janette Manrara who has won the Glitterball Trophy with most audience votes.

Who has been winning so far?

While Ellie and Vito won the Strictly Come Dancing on the BBC show, on the tour it seems to be a much more open playing field. The tour started in Birmingham last month, and already we've had different winners claiming the trophy at each show.

Layton and Nikita and Bobby and Dianne have been winning over the crowds scoring a number of wins. Series winners Ellie and Vito have only won once so far on tour - but we bet that will be a different story when they head to home turf in Manchester at the weekend.

All the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 celebrity line-up rumours

Who is taking to the BBC ballroom this year?

preview for Michelle Visage's Best Strictly Moments

While we have every reason to expect that the judges will be back in their seats, and that hosting double act Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly will once again be ushering in our Saturday nights, the celebrity roster changes year after year.

Here we'll keep you updated with all the Strictly news and lineup rumours, to get you excited for the glitzy new season of the BBC dance show which is set to return to our screens later this year.

Strictly Come Dancing 2024 cast rumours

mollie, the traitors, season 2

Mollie Pearce

Who? Breakout star from The Traitors .

Apparently the Beeb is keen to sign up one of the cast members of the record-breaking reality show, with show villain Paul , winner Harry and his faithful bestie (also runner-up) Mollie all being speculated about.

The Sun reports that those three are in the running with Strictly bosses, noting that Mollie's inclusion would potentially be a "positive moment of representation" for audiences.

"A lot of parents have reached out to me, their children might have a stoma or a limb difference and they say that seeing me on the TV has helped them so much," Mollie said, after her time on The Traitors had aired.

hannah waddingham

Hannah Waddingham

Who? Ted Lasso star and all-round icon.

Yes, believe it or not, Hannah Waddingham's name is being linked to the new Strictly cast for the 2024 series.

The actor is reported to have been approached by BBC bosses, according to the Mirror .

She's close friends with judge Anton Du Beke, and is supposedly a big fan of the dancing show. The report suggests she's keen, but it's all down to whether or not she could fit it into her schedule.

clive myrie

Clive Myrie

Who? BBC newsreader and presenter.

Perhaps following in the footsteps of the likes of Natasha Kaplinsky and Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Clive Myrie has poked fun at his potential inclusion in the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 lineup.

Sharing a clip from his BBC show Clive Myrie's Caribbean Adventure , where he showed off his moves, he tagged the prime-time dance competition: "What do you say @bbcstrictly? Are my moves up to par?"

It's worth noting that Clive has previously been approached to take part, but has always turned it down (according to The Sun ). Perhaps he'll change his mind this year...

sophie morgan, loose women

Sophie Morgan

Who? TV presenter.

Sophie Morgan, who is part of the Loose Women team and who fronts coverage of the Paralympics for Channel 4, was rumoured to be part of the Strictly cast last year.

This didn't come to fruition, but there's always this year...

perri kiely

Perri Kiely

Who? Diversity dance member, TV and radio presenter.

Having won Britain's Got Talent back in 2009 and placing second on Dancing on Ice in 2019, Perri's name has been put forward as a possible Strictly signing in recent years.

Responding to the rumour that he might land himself a spot in the BBC dance show lineup, Perri told Digital Spy that people would probably accuse him of having an "unfair advantage".

"People thought I was cheating on Dancing on Ice , let alone Strictly Come Dancing ," he said.

munroe bergdorf, baftas 2023

Munroe Bergdorf

Who? Model, author and activist.

Munroe Bergdorf once said that she would love to do the BBC show and, what's more, it would be the only reality show she'd be interested in taking part in.

"I've always said that Strictly is the only one that I've got a desire to do," she told the Make It Reign podcast in 2021.

Munroe hinted that the time wasn't quite right at that point but, if she were to join the cast of Strictly 2024, it would make history as she'd be the show's first ever trans celebrity. We're here for it.

perrie edwards

Perrie Edwards

Who? Singer from Little Mix.

Perrie Edwards sort of put herself forward for Strictly consideration during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show earlier this year.

While she admitted she would be "really scared", Perrie also revealed that she would be up for taking part.

"In the band at the very beginning, we went to rehearsals and I remember crying my eyes out and I went to my manager, 'I'm going to have to leave the band. I can't really dance, I don't want to dance'.

"I was just so terrified and uncomfortable dancing that I just didn't want to do it – I just wanted to stand and sing...

"Now, I love it. I absolutely love dancing. I actually would love it [ Strictly Come Dancing ]."

Hear that, Beeb?

chris mccausland

Chris McCausland

Who? Comedian.

The Sun reports that Strictly has signed comedian Chris McCausland for the 2024 series, making history as the show's first ever blind celebrity contestant.

The publication claims that bosses are "delighted" to have Chris – who has also previously starred on CBeebies – on board, but it's worth noting that it's still speculation at this point because nothing is confirmed by the BBC until the cast announcements are officially made.

laura kenny

Dame Laura Kenny

Who? Olympic medal winner.

Now she has retired from cycling, word is that the BBC is hoping to get Dame Laura Kenny on the dance floor.

The Mirror reports that Laura has been branded the "ultimate signing" for Strictly , and that the nation will love her.

shona mcgarty

Shona McGarty

Who? EastEnders star.

There's always a soap star or two on Strictly Come Dancing , and Shona is no stranger to the rumoured list.

Shona previously revealed that she had turned down a stint on the BBC dance show due to her anxiety.

"I've always wanted to do [ Strictly ]," she told Best magazine in 2021 (via Yahoo! ).

"I was asked a few years ago to go on the show. But my anxiety got the better of me and I thought I would be too nervous to do a live show."

But she also went on to speak about her love of dancing, adding: "I love the costumes, and it's such an iconic show."

It's now been reported, via the Mirror , that the soap star is in talks to potentially take part once again.

Well, she's officially now left her Walford character Whitney behind so this could be the right time for her.

tom malone jr

Tom Malone Jr

Who? Former Gogglebox star.

Tom left the popular Channel 4 show in 2021, and has since shared that he would be open to taking part in the BBC show if given the chance.

"If the opportunity came up to go on Strictly as a contestant, I've never done Ballroom in my life, so it'd be interesting to see how as someone who breaks," he reportedly told the Express .

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Gemma Atkinson shares joy as she reunites with Strictly's Gorka Marquez after eight weeks apart

The strictly come dancing lovebirds share two children together.

Georgia Brown

Gemma Atkinson has finally reunited with her fiancé, Gorka Marquez , after the couple were forced to spend eight weeks apart due to work commitments.

Strictly Come Dancing pro Gorka left behind his daughter Mia, four, and son Tiago, 11 months, while he toured the country alongside his ballroom co-stars for the Strictly the Professionals 2024 tour.

"Gorka's home,"  Gemma gushed on Instagram. "After almost 8 weeks he got back around 1am."

The mother-of-two added: "Mia and Tio aren't up yet but they'll be so excited when they see him."

Gorka has been splitting his time between the UK and Madrid while he films the Spanish version of Strictly Come Dancing , where he also acts as a judge.

The family being back together comes after Gemma revealed she had only seen her husband-to-be for a total of two and a half days over the almost eight weeks he had been on tour.

"Missing these two little monkeys too much…" the Spanish professional dancer penned on social media two weeks ago, sharing a photo of his children captured on their most recent family holiday.

The mini fashionista looked adorable as she enjoyed a dose of Strictly sparkle, trying on hats, sunglasses and even her dad's white fur coat worn for his role as 'Ken' in the professionals' iconic Barbie dance.

"We were sitting by her and @glouiseatkinson, it was so cute how excited she got and waved every time you came on stage," commented a fan.

Gemma and Gorka's relationship timeline

The couple,  who found love on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 , welcomed their daughter Mia on 4 July 2019. They announced their engagement on Valentine's Day in 2021, later welcoming their son, Tiago, on 17 July 2023.

Strictly Come Dancing has ‘signed up’ blind celebrity for 2024 series

Strictly Come Dancing has reportedly signed up its first contestant for 2024 – and it will mark a historic first for the series.

The BBC competition, which has found itself in hot water due to alleged complaints against professional dancer Giovanni Pernice , is set to return in September for its 22nd series.

With just three months to go until the show comes back, producers are hard at work trying to sign up the stars who will be competing to take home the Glitterball trophy, following in the footseps of Ellie Leach , Hamza Yassin and Rose Ayling-Ellis .

The first star is believed to have been selected, with The Sun reporting Chris McCausland will be a contestant on the 2024 series.

McCausland, 46, is a comedian and CBeebies actor, and his appearance would mark a first for Strictly as he is blind . The star lost his sight when he was 22 due to a hereditary condition called retinitis pigmentosa.

His booking would follow Ayling-Ellis’s victory in 2021; the EastEnders star, who was partnered with Pernice, was the first deaf contestant to appear on the show.

While his appearance is unconfirmed., a source said:”bosses are delighted by the signing and think Chris will be great on the show” as “he has a hilarious sense of humour and an infectious personality”.

They added that producers are “really keen to showcase disability on TV and are conscious of how important it is”, adding that McCausland “is determined to show it won’t hold him back on the ballroom dance floor”.

The BBC declined to comment on the report, calling it “speculation”.

As well as being a comedian, McCausland plays Rudi, the market trader, in CBeebies show Me Too! and previously appeared on Channel 4 series Scared of the Dark .

Chris McCausland is reportedly the first 2024 ‘Strictly’ star

For the show, he spoke openly about his experience of going blind, saying that “when it started happening it was scary and embarrassing”.

He added: “I got myself into bad situations because I didn’t want to ask for help. I will never be on a level playing field with everyone else.”

McCausland, who is married and has a 10-year-old daughter, explained that he can “still see light and space” and has “an awareness of the space around me, not in terms of objects and things, but in terms of the room and whether there might be something in front of me”>

He also said at the time he does not want to “bang viewers over the head” with his blindness, stating: “It’s great that there’s people coming through who are able to represent disability while also having the experience to do the job properly. There’s no point fast-tracking performers on to TV before they’re ready.

“My attitude has always been to represent by not banging you over the head. I think the best way to represent a disability is to make people forget about it whenever possible. It’s always part of you.

Chris McCausland would be ‘Strictly’s first-ever blind contestant

“But if you can do a show where, say, 80 per cent of it isn’t about being blind, that makes it more impactful and funnier when you do talk about it. I believe in representation within the mainstream.

The race will get underway at 11.15am, crossing the Ashton Canal and going through the likes of Oldham , Delph, Shaw, Rochdale and Horwich. It will also feature the ‘Ramsbottom Rake’, which whilst less than a km in length is known for being a ‘formidable’ climb due to its steep 9.9% gradient.
