After looking at several options I choose Go4Explore for my Himachal Backpacking trip. Reason was the itinerary they provided (Manali, Kasol and Jibhi) with the pricing. Firstly I was skeptical about hotels they will provide in the pricing, but the provided hotels and homestays were amazing. They were strategically selected homestays due to its location. I would recommend Go4Explore for Himachal Trips. Ask for Group Leader: Aaryan Verma, he is a gem of a guy.

Many thanks for making such a trip possible. The organization, the effectiveness, the planning and on top the driver were just perfect. I felt so comfortable despite being so far from home. Everything worked out in time and perfectly. Our captain (Sahil Yadav) is a man of heart, he was always on his toes to assist and provide the best hospitality. The hotel we stayed at was always clean. I will definitely recommend Go4Explore to my other friends as well. Big thanks to Amit sir, who always helped for every possible difficulty.

Went for their Spiti Valley full circuit trip last week and loved it. The trip itinerary was well curated to make sure we get the most of all the places. Our trip lead - Nikhilesh was well experienced and made sure we don't miss out on anything throughout the trip. The driver was also well experienced. All the stays and food were also managed well. Made some really great memories and friends on this trip and these will be cherished forever. Would also like to point out that we did bump into other groups throughout the trip and came to know that our group covered all of the places mentioned in the itinerary while some others didn't. So I would definitely recommend and also prefer traveling with the Go4Explore community for the best experience.

It was my first trip with a travel community and I found Go4Explore through Instagram recommendations. I went to Tirthan Valley & Jibhi with Go4Explore. I only had expectations that the accommodation and transportation would be arranged but in actuality it was beyond my expectations. I had a great time with Go4Explore. Everything was very well arranged. We stayed in No Society Homestays which is an amazing place with an amazing vibe. Our trip was led by Sahil Singh who is an amazing trip leader cum friend. He made our trip even more fun. I'd recommend everyone to plan their trip with Go4Explore without even a second thought. Looking forward to more trips.

Everything was pre-planned and managed accordingly. Captain (Nishant) and Co-Captain(Sabrina) were really supportive and helpful. Group was truly amazing. As a whole, Nothing can be better than this. My first solo trip to Spiti was with Go4explore and has been one of the best trips that happened to me. This trip made me see how much fun it can be with strangers who become like your family by the end of the trip. All this wouldn't have been possible without Sahil Singh who ensured that everyone had fun at every step with utmost care and comfort. I decided to take my second road trip with this community as their itineraries are very well planned and executed. My Ladakh trip was a lot of fun as I met and bonded with a lot of like-minded people. Our young and amazing trip leaders Rahul and Nikhilesh made everything very comfortable from day 1 till the end of the trip and all of them made it the most memorable trip to Ladakh.

He graduated from a local university (although he tells everyone about one college in the USA). This guy traveled Kazakhstan back and forth many times when he worked for a government nature protection agency.

According to some people, he has personal contacts with some wolves, foxes, and bears living in the mountains and the steppes. He is not a guy who can work at some office.

He loves nature exploration and discovery. Back in the 2010s he joined several nature expeditions to study Kazakh geography (one needs to verify).

He tends to drive a lot away from the city and broke up many vehicles. To help the locals and the foreigners, he opens new tourist sites for the public on Google maps.

Since he is on good terms with mother nature, he can help anyone explore it at a deeper level. The guy is a steppe wolf. He runs his own channels on Instagram and Youtube.

About Almaty

Almaty is the former capital of Kazakhstan till 1997. Then it lost its status to Astana. Despite that Almaty remains the biggest, the richest, the best city in all of Kazakhstan.

Almaty is the economic, cultural, and transport hub of the country. No wonder it attracts many travelers from around the world. Almaty has everything to amaze anyone. The gorgeous Alatau mountains alone are a wonder of Central Asia.

Where in the world will you see a city located in the footsteps of a big mountain? On top of that, there are many natural beauties in many valleys and gorges. One can be amused to see them. The city itself has modern facilities and amenities. Hi-tech shopping malls, modern hotels, etc. are open to host guests.

Variety of Tours in Almaty

The urban environment and natural landscape present in and around the city are suitable for combining many items to create an amazing experience for tourists. Even the locals have no idea about the true beauty of their own city.

Based on distance duration and taste, it is possible to make various tours. Tour packages are suitable to satisfy many demands.

When it comes to geography, Kazakhstan is located between Europe and Asia. The Kazakhs love to mention this point. It is not surprising that the region is called Central Asia as opposed to South Asia, South East Asia, etc. Because of that, the Almaty package is more or less affordable to all parties.

Travelers can stop here to experience another culture on the way to East and West. Historical experience of Kazakhstan is expressed in architecture, city design, language, ethnic landscape, etc. For Asians Almaty can be as good as any Eastern European country: there are modern ski resorts, international hotel brands, modern architecture, ethnic flavor, and so on.

Depending on the point of departure, the Almaty trip can be smooth and comfortable. There are direct flights to Almaty from Dubai, Istanbul, Delhi, Seoul, Bangkok, etc. As long as visa stuff is in order, then one can travel freely. Why not? The world has more or less recovered from the coronavirus pandemic and is open to international travel.

Best time to visit kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan has a continental climate, which lends itself to extreme temperatures. In summer (June to August) it can climb above 36 degrees C (96°F) and in winter (December to February) you can expect temperatures to be as low as -26 degrees C (-10°F). Snow stays on the ground for almost half the year. The best time to travel is during spring (May to June) and autumn (September to November) when temperatures are mild. While it can rain at any time of year, the amount varies across the country. In the desert you’ll get very little, while in the mountains it’s best not to leave home without a rain jacket.

Top 5 tastes of Kazakhstan

1. beshbarmak.

This is Kazakhstan’s national dish and a meat lover’s delight. Chunks of boiled mutton served on flat squares of pasta.

Get ready for sausage, Kazakh-style. Made with horsemeat, the sausage is cooked for two hours before being served with generous servings of onion.

Wash down your main course with a glass of fermented mare’s milk. It’s mildly alcoholic and has a fizzy sensation. Shubat is another version made with camel’s milk.

4. Baursaki

Try these fried, doughy balls of goodness alongside soup.

Make new friends wherever you go by sitting down and sharing a cup of shay. This black or green tea is a Kazakh staple.

Kazakhstan is double the size of the other four Central Asian countries combined and the distance from the West of the country to the East is as far as London to Istanbul. There are flights and trains connecting different parts of the country. Kazakhstan’s travel highlights are its vast steppes with their unique fauna and flora, trekking in the Tien Shan (“celestial mountains”) near Almaty, admiring modern architecture in the capital Astana, and strolling through Kazakhstan’s biggest city and former capital, Almaty. Visitors also get a sense of Central Asian Sufism at the ancient and beautiful Yassawi Mausoleum in Turkestan and can visit places that offer a reminder of the tragedies of the Soviet Union, such as the Stalinist labor camps (“Gulags”) memorial Alzhir nearby Astana. MONEY & COSTS:

The Kazakh currency is called the Tenge (KZT). The banking system in Kazakhstan is the most developed in Central Asia and in big cities there are many places to exchange money and to withdraw cash from ATMs using a variety of cards. We recommend bringing some cash in new USD bank notes of denominations of at least 20 USD. Small and old-looking bank notes are harder to exchange. Paying directly with a credit card is possible in most places. An emergency fund of around 500 USD in cash is always good to have during guided trips to Central Asia.

Kazakhstan is a multi-ethnic country with a long history of tolerance. Guests and locals are treated with respect and the whole country can be regarded as a very safe destination for travelers. That said, you are advised to wear a money belt, watch your belongings, avoid dark streets at night and take only official taxis. Your safety is our first priority at Kalpak Travel; we know and regularly assess all our Kazakh partners and we closely monitor political events.

ENTRY & EXIT:

Citizens of most Western countries do not need a visa for a stay of up to 30 days in Kazakhstan. To be sure whether you need a visa or not you can contact us. Any permits you might need for access to places that will be visited during your tour, we will provide them for you free of charge. As soon as we receive the deposit payment for your tour, we will confirm your booking and send you an email with important pre-departure information. Please read it carefully as it contains important information on customs regulations for Kazakhstan.

BEST TIME TO GO:

The climate of Kazakhstan is continental and dry in the majority of the country, including the largest cities. Summers are very hot with day temperatures between 30° and 40° Celsius and winters are extremely cold with strong winds. In the mountains, however, the weather is quite changeable. If you are planning to visit the mountains the best season is summer. Be aware, however, at high altitudes of 3000 meters or more it may even snow overnight during the summer. For cultural sightseeing tours, spring and autumn are the best seasons. Autumn is also the time when the country goes to harvest, meaning markets are full of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Do not drink water, unless it is bottled, filtered, or boiled. Do not use tap water for brushing your teeth or making ice either. Do not eat ice cream. Only eat well-cooked meat and fish, preferably served hot. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled. If you follow these basic rules, you are likely to avoid any health issues like traveler’s diarrhea. Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, and Tetanus are recommended vaccinations for Kazakhstan. Ensure you are fully insured for medical emergencies including repatriation. Medical services in Kazakhstan are basic at best.

For 3 days we had a rare possiblity to admire the beauty of nature of Kazkhstan. The trip organised by Kalpak was excellent, the guides appeared to be very friendly and caring people, I think it would be almost impossible to organise everything on our own. Thanks Kalpak team and your team in Kazakhstan to make our memories unforgettable.

The guides in each city spoke excellent English and were extremely informative on all aspects of Central Asia. In Almaty, we were invited to have dinner at our tour guide's home. The food was fabulous and we had a wonderful evening…. We were very lucky to have Kalpak Travel as our tour company which exceeded our expectations with flying colours. We highly recommend Kalpak Travel if you are planning a hassle-free tour of Central Asia.

The ninth largest country in the world (it is twice the size of other four former Soviet Central Asian republics put together), Kazakhstan lies at the heart of the Eurasian steppe, at the cross-roads of some of the world’s most ancient civilisations. To its south lie monuments that tell of its long history with the great trading routes of the Silk Road, whilst its northern landscapes offer up vast sweeping steppes that cover one-third of the entire country. One of its most striking natural features, the mountains that run along its southern fringes, offer up a wealth of towering icy peaks, crystal lakes and dense, forested valleys.

A proud people, the Kazakhs can trace their ancestry back to the Mongolian hordes who ravaged Central Asia during the 12th century. Emerging as a distinct nationality in the 15th century, they remained largely nomadic until well into the 20th century, despite early colonisation by the tsars of neighbouring Russia.

Gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, today it sits on huge reserves of oil and mineral deposits, making it potentially one of the richest countries anywhere in Central Asia. It still retains much of its old frontier spirit though and its little visited landscapes provide the perfect setting for a truly intrepid adventure.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Health and Vaccinations

There are no mandatory immunisations for travellers to Kazakhstan though you should be up-to-date with Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio and Hepatitis A. We recommend you seek advice from your local GP or travel centre as to the correct immunisations and preventative treatments.

In Kazakhstan, the official unit of currency is the Tenge.

To check out the latest exchange rate for the places that you are visiting you can go to www.oanda.com .

Cultural Sensitivity

On our tours you will frequently interact with local people, each with their own distinct customs and traditions. We therefore ask you to be considerate and to treat them with respect. Your tour-leaders and guides will always be able to advise you accordingly.

The first thing to say about travelling in Central Asia is that most areas, particularly the cities and towns, have a much more laid-back approach to Islam than their neighbours to the south in Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, as a technically Muslim region a little bit of caution and modesty should be applied in certain places. When visiting active mosques, women should cover their shoulders and wear trousers or skirts that fall below the knee, and men should not wear shorts.

Language & Religion

The Kazakh language is the state language, although Russian is also widely spoken.

Kazakhstan practices freedom of religion and is around two thirds Islamic, with the bulk of the remainder being Christian Orthodox.

Uzbekistan is 5 hours ahead of GMT A useful website to check the time zone differences is www.worldtimezone.com .

Food and drink

Kazakhstan’s staple food is lamb and rice. Shashlik (kebab) can be found everywhere, as can plov, a rice dish prepared with onion, carrots, and lamb. Many variations of plov exist, with sultanas, apricots, or pumpkin amongst others. Other popular dishes include laghman (noodles), manty (large meat ravioli) and samsa (a meat pastry similar to samosa). In Kazakhstan you will also come across kazy, a smoked horsemeat sausage, while the national dish is beshbarmak, boiled beef and mutton served on pasta squares. Much use is made of seasonal vegetables, fruit, and fresh herbs.

The national drink is fermented mares milk, kymys, but tea is the main drink, either green or black. Alcoholic drinks are widely available too and there is local beer as well as imported Russian beer (Baltika is quite popular with 16% alcohol). Vodka is usually drunk with meals in preference to wine.

Travelling Solo In Kazakhstan

All of our   small group tours   are designed to cater for   solo travellers : the number of solo travellers will vary from tour to tour, but usually over half will be travelling alone. Stories of an Indian Traveller across the world!

Here's how you can plan a trip to Kazakhstan from India!

Are you dreaming of embarking on an adventure to one of Central Asia's most enchanting destinations, Kazakhstan? Whether you're already planning your visit or simply curious about what this vast and diverse country has to offer, you've come to the right place! In this article, we will provide you with a comprehensive guide on how to plan a trip to Kazakhstan, covering essential aspects such as visas, food, language, transportation, and even the exciting world of drone flying in this remarkable nation.

Discovering Kazakhstan: A Land of Contrasts

Before delving into the logistics of your trip, it's worth taking a moment to appreciate the fascinating diversity of Kazakhstan. This vast country, the largest in Central Asia and the ninth-largest in the world, straddles both Central Asia and Eastern Europe. While Islam is the predominant religion, it's worth noting that Kazakhstan's brand of Islam is often characterized as modern and liberal, making it distinct from some other Muslim-majority countries. Additionally, you'll find traces of Christianity and even Buddhism in its history.

The capital city, Astana, represents a modern metropolis with futuristic architecture, while traditional Kazakh culture and heritage thrive in various parts of the country. The coexistence of these diverse elements makes Kazakhstan an intriguing destination for travelers.

Language and Culture

Kazakhstan is a multilingual country with Kazakh and Russian being the two dominant languages. While English is not widely spoken, especially in rural areas, you can easily navigate your way around if you know either Kazakh or Russian. The cultural exchange between Kazakhstan and Russia over generations has contributed to the prevalence of both languages in the country's daily life.

Visa Requirements

One of the great advantages of visiting Kazakhstan is its open visa policy for Indian citizens. If your stay is less than two weeks, you won't need a visa or even a visa-on-arrival. Simply carry your passport, return flight tickets, and hotel bookings, and you'll breeze through immigration in no time. This hassle-free visa policy has earned Kazakhstan high marks for welcoming Indian travelers with open arms.

Getting There and Around

For Indian travelers, flying is the most convenient way to reach Kazakhstan. The major cities for arrival are Shymkent, Almaty, and Astana (now Nur-Sultan). Two Kazakh airlines, Fly Arystan and Air Astana, offer regular flights, with Fly Arystan being a budget-friendly option.

For connectivity within Kazakhstan, consider downloading the Russian taxi-hailing app Yandex Go. This app can help you efficiently navigate cities and even arrange multi-day trips to explore the countryside. However, be aware that as you venture further from urban areas, English becomes less common, so be prepared for language challenges.

Stay Connected with a Local SIM

To stay connected during your travels, it's advisable to purchase a local SIM card. Beeline is one of the telecom providers in Kazakhstan, offering affordable data plans that compare favorably with rates in India. While connectivity is excellent in cities, be prepared for occasional network drop-offs in remote areas.

Currency and Cash

The official currency in Kazakhstan is the Kazakhstan Tenge. Exchange rates typically hover around 1 Rupee to 5.5-6 Tenge. Credit cards are widely accepted, especially in urban areas, reducing the need for carrying large amounts of cash. However, having some local currency on hand can be helpful, particularly when exploring rural villages and purchasing local goods.

When to Visit

Kazakhstan boasts two ideal seasons for travel: spring and autumn. These seasons offer pleasant temperatures, making it comfortable to explore. If you're an adrenaline junkie and enjoy winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, consider visiting during the winter months. Be prepared for extremely cold temperatures and heavy snowfall, but you'll have the opportunity to engage in thrilling winter adventures.

Culinary Delights and Dietary Preferences

Food is a significant part of any travel experience, and Kazakhstan offers a delightful blend of flavors. Even as a vegetarian traveler, you'll find options to satisfy your palate. Local cuisine includes horse meat, a delicacy you may want to try, alongside various vegetarian dishes available in cities. In major cities like Almaty and Astana, international cuisine is also readily available, providing a diverse range of dining choices.

Exploring with a Drone

For those who love aerial photography, Kazakhstan is a drone enthusiast's paradise. Drone regulations are less restrictive compared to some other countries. However, it's essential to follow standard safety guidelines, such as maintaining distance from people and landmarks. Kazakhstan's breathtaking landscapes, including lakes, forests, and iconic horses, offer stunning opportunities for aerial photography.

Choosing Your Travel Style

Your travel style in Kazakhstan can vary based on your preferences and budget. If you're adventurous and prefer to explore independently, Yandex Go and local taxis are excellent choices. On the other hand, traveling with a local agency offers an immersive experience, especially for deeper explorations and family trips. These agencies provide expert guides and handle logistics, making your journey smoother.

Kazakhstan, with its rich history, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, promises an unforgettable adventure. Whether you're drawn to the modernity of its cities or the timeless charm of its rural areas, Kazakhstan has something for every traveler. So, whether you're planning to explore ancient traditions or embark on thrilling outdoor adventures, Kazakhstan invites you to embark on a journey of discovery.

We hope this comprehensive guide has provided you with valuable insights to plan your trip to this extraordinary destination. If you have more questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to ask in the comments. Safe travels and enjoy your Kazakhstan adventure!

A MAGICAL PLACE FULL OF HISTORY & BEAUTY

Kazakhstan – a grandeur of mountain peaks, sparkling glaciers, quiet forest twilight, mystery deserts, huge rocky canyons, emerald lakes, fast running rivers, poetry sunlight, and unique flora and fauna. It is a country of ancient civilization of the Eurasian continent, the home of the nomadic tribes, a solid piece of the Great Silk Road.

Kazakhstan is a large country with the area that is among the ten largest countries in the world. It owns part of the largest lake in the world – the Caspian Sea, part of the infamous Aral Sea and lake Balkhash. Together, it causes a variety of landscapes of rich natural wonders.

Located in Central Asia, Kazakhstan has a total area of 2.72 million square km. The country shares it borders with Russia to the north and west, to the southeast is China, and to the south with Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Its territory extends from the lower reaches of the Volga River in the west, to the foothills of the Altai Mountains in the east, and from the West Siberian lowlands in the north to the Kyzyl Kum Desert to the south.

More than 3/4 of the country of Kazakhstan are plains with altitudes ranging from 100 to 300 m (328-984 ft) above sea level. In the extreme east and southeast stretches the Altai Dzhungar and Tian Shan with elevations ranging from 3000 to 6995 m (9,842-22,949 ft – the peak of Khan Tengri). In the far west is the Caspian lowland, partly lying below sea level. In the center of the country’s vast territory is the destroyed mountain system Kazakh Hills.

Kazakhstan has an ‘extreme’ continental climate, with warm summers and very cold winters. Indeed, Astana is the second coldest capital city in the world after Ulaanbaatar. Precipitation varies between arid and semi-arid conditions, the winter being particularly dry.

The remoteness of Kazakhstan from oceans and its large area affects climate conditions. The average January temperature range from -19  to -4 °C (-2 to 25 °F) with an average July temperature ranging from 19 to 26 °C (66 to 79 °F).

Mountainous regions of southeast Kazakhstan, up to 1000 m ( 3,281 ft), daytime air temperatures in summer months can reach 30 °C (86 °F), while night time temps can drop to 18 °C (64 °F). Average day temps in winter usually hover around -10 °C (14 °F) and can cool to -20 °C (-4 °F) at night.

In the north, precipitation can average up to 300 mm (12 in) while deserts can receive less than 100 mm (4 in) and the mountains up to 1600 mm (63 in) on a yearly basis. Snow typically begins to fall in November with mountain passes closed until April. Summer rains are often associated with severe thunderstorms, which sometimes lead to flash flooding.

While the official language is Kazakh, roughly 90% of the population is proficient in Russian. Russian is typically spoken by the population in all of the major cities of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan is considered a poly-confessional country, where more than 3,000 religious associations representing 40 denominations can be found in over 2,500 places of worship. All of the world’s major religions can be found in Kazakhstan.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE

The monetary unit of Kazakhstan is the Tenge (Designation: International – KZT; Domestic – T). Banknotes and coins in circulation are in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000. Tenge is the only legal tender in the country. US dollars can be easily exchanged for Tenge, while the Euro is taken in almost all banks and exchange offices. Most banks only take new sample notes. Kazakhstan also accepts European and International credit cards, which are easily accepted in major hotels, shops and restaurants. ATM’s can be found in banks, hotels and shopping centers.

Most often in major hotels and restaurants, gratuity for the service is already included in the bill. Usually it is 5-15%. If such amount is not included with the total, you can include a tip. There is also a fixed amount for the service in the taxi and rail transport.

Foreign Citizens and those without citizenship need to obtain a visa for entrance into the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and Moldova do not need a visa to visit Kazakhstan, only a foreign passport. Entrance documents are stamped in the airport or other control centers. Foreign citizens can receive visa support before entering Kazakhstan. Validity of passport should not expire earlier than three months after expiration.

The name “Kazakh” comes from the ancient Turkic word qaz, “to wander”, reflecting the Kazakhs’ nomadic culture. The name “Cossack” is of the same origin. The Persian suffix -stan means “land” or “place of”, so Kazakhstan can be literally translated as “land of the wanderers”.

Kazakhstan has been inhabited since the Paleolithic. Pastoralism developed during the Neolithic as the region’s climate and terrain are best suited for a nomadic lifestyle. The Kazakh territory was a key constituent of the Eurasian Steppe route, the ancestor of the terrestrial Silk Roads. Archaeologists believe that humans first domesticated the horse in the region’s vast steppes.

Kazakhstan has the largest and strongest performing economy in Central Asia. Supported by rising oil output and prices, Kazakhstan’s economy grew at an average of 8% per year until 2013, before suffering a slowdown in 2014 and 2015. Kazakhstan was the first former Soviet Republic to repay all of its debt to the International Monetary Fund, 7 years ahead of schedule.
