Elton John and the Rolling Stones  sold more than half a billion dollars of total concert tickets in 2022 with their respective tours.

John earned over $334 million with 85 Farewell Yellow Brick Road dates, second only to Bad Bunny on Billboard 's 2022 Top Tours chart . The Stones came in at No. 6 with more than $179 million, an impressive number considering they played only 20 shows.

After focusing on North America this past summer, Motley Crue and Def Leppard will bring their co-headlining tour to the rest of the world in 2023, with new guitarist John 5 taking over for Mick Mars .

Live Music Logs Record-Setting 2022 as Bad Bunny and Elton John Lead With Booming Stadium Tours

The sector grossed $6.28 billion this year, per Pollstar.

Elton John Concert Dodger Stadium - Disney Plus

As the year draws to a close, the live music industry can take comfort in having achieved record-setting revenues for 2022, thanks largely to the post-pandemic boost of new festivals, global stadium tours and astronomical box office receipts, correlating to sky-high ticket prices.

The biggest touring story of the year, not surprisingly, is the boom in stadium engagements. In total, Pollstar’s list of top 100 stadiums tallied over $2.68 billion in gross this year — an increase of more than 81% from 2019’s stadium haul of $1.48 billion.

Among the artists touring stadiums in 2022: the Weeknd, Coldplay, Daddy Yankee, Billy Joel, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Def Leppard & Mötley Crüe, Dua Lipa, Zac Brown, Eagles, Daddy Yankee, Iron Maiden, Blackpink, Morgan Wallen, the Lumineers, Dead & Co., Garth Brooks, Lady Gaga and countless others.

However, two distinct artists led the pack. Bad Bunny and Elton John top Pollstar’s Worldwide Touring chart, with the Puerto Rican rap titan grossing $393.3 million, and John logging $274 million gross for the year. Bunny managed to swing two different-sized tours running in the same year. His first sold-out trek “El Último Tour Del Mundo,” was a 36-date venture which ran from Feb. 2022 in Denver and ended in Miami on April 3. In total, it grossed $113 million. The latter half of 2022 was ruled by his “World’s Hottest Tour,” which hit stadiums across the U.S. starting in August before heading to Latin America and grossing $269 million with 1.3 million tickets through the year-end’s Nov. 16 chart cut-off date.

Sheeran once again hit the road this year in support of his previous records on the “Mathematics” tour, a European stadium trek, that earned $251 million gross this year and enters Pollstar’s chart at No. 3. Sheeran is also the only concert performer to hit the 3 million mark in sold tickets with 3,047,694 sold over 63 shows in 28 venues throughout the year for a massive average of 48,376 tickets sold per show.

Harry Styles’ “ Love on Tour ” sits at No. 4 in the Top 100 based on its box office glory that kicked off in September of last year with a string of North American arena dates. Stadiums followed in 2022 with the singer’s rescheduled 23-show European run that kicked off in June. He performed in 15 countries through the end of July, selling more than 638,000 tickets.

And who could forget the singer’s mini residencies — most notably, the historic string of 15 nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden. That run logged a total of 276,852 tickets sold and rang in a $63 million gross – the highest gross of the year for a single venue worldwide, according to Pollstar. Styles had another 12-night run at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum where he left with $38 million in sales from over 200,000 tickets sold.

The historic feats continue as this becomes the first year that each tour in the top 10 grossed over $100 million and the top five each took in more than $200 million — with inflation playing a factor. Rise in ticket prices placed the Top 100 Worldwide ticket sales in 2022 at 59.2 million, surpassing 2019’s total of 57.7 million tickets. On Pollstar’s North American Top 200 chart, ticket prices increased 19% from $87.19 in 2019 to cross the three-figure barrier of $103.71 in 2022.

And as 2022 comes to a close, it’s clear 2023 will ring in another big year for the live music industry. Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” has already managed to break the internet with an unprecedented, and drama-filled, record turnout for presales on Ticketmaster, and hints of a possible stadium/arena trek from Beyoncé has fans ready to drop thousands for a ticket. Not to mention the several confirmed tours of stars who have already made 2022 a standout year like Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Harry Styles, Dead & Co. (the band’s final trek), the Weeknd, Def Leppard/Mötley Crüe, Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks, among others.

The setlist was composed of songs from Bad Bunny’s album, Un Verano Sin Ti , as well as hit singles like “Vuelve,” “Dakiti” and “Me Porto Bonito.”

No. 9 – Motley Crue & Def Leppard

Rock and heavy metal music giants Motley Crue and Def Leppard embarked on their Stadium Tour this year and were joined by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Poison. The 36-show tour kicked off in June and quickly sold more than one million tickets. With hits like “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Rock of Ages” to “Kickstart My Heart” and “Wild Side,” the Stadium Tour was so successful and well-received that another tour has been planned for 2023 with Alice Cooper joining the lineup.

Fans rocked out to songs like “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Cherrybomb,” and more when Poison and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts opened the show for these mega groups. Since their start in the ‘80s, Motley Crue and Def Leppard have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. All the groups that took part in the Stadium Tour put together an exciting and memorable experience for the crowds.

No. 8 – Rod Wave

This 23-year-old rapper embarked on his first tour in 2022, helping to promote his new certified gold album, Beautiful Minds . The Beautiful Minds Tour featured songs like “By Your Side”, “Street Runner” and “Cold December.” Rod Wave’s success in the rap industry began after his 2019 song “Heart of Ice” went viral on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube. The song would go on to peak at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His debut album, Ghetto Gospel (2019) was certified platinum by the RIAA. Rod Wave’s popularity increased even more after being nominated for Top New Artist at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards.

No. 7 – New Edition

New Edition’s Culture Tour was nominated as one of the Top R&B Tours in the country by Pollstar . Accompanied by artists Charlie Wilson and Jodeci, New Edition’s Culture Tour re-ignited the public’s love and nostalgia for R&B groups. This U.S. tour would be the group’s first venture since 2016.

After rocketing in popularity in the ‘80s and onward, New Edition brought back hits like “Candy Girl,” “Mr. Telephone Man” and “If It Isn’t Love” to wow their fans. The R&B group was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022 and had previously received nominations and awards from the American Music Awards, Soul Train Awards, and BET. You can also catch New Edition live in the future on their Legacy Tour in 2023.

No. 6 – Journey with TOTO

Journey’s Freedom Tour supports the rock band’s new album with the same name. Freedom is Journey’s first album in more than a decade since Eclipse debuted in 2011. Freedom ranked No. 9 on Billboard US Independent Albums charts, adding to the band’s success. Not long after the 2022 tour announcement, demand drove the group to add 2023 dates to the Freedom Tour schedule. With songs like “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Don’t Give Up On Us” and “Any Way You Want It,” Journey put on amazing performances at every stop along the way. Serving as the opening act for one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time was TOTO . With fan favorites like “Africa” and “Rosanna” TOTO the rock band headed by Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams covering guitar and vocals. TOTO has withstood the test of time and served as a benchmark of fame and success that many music groups aspire to reach.

Daddy Yankee, Karol G and Neal Schon

No. 5 – Elton John

The Rocketman took fans on a final adventure with his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, the name referencing Elton John’s 1973 album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road . The world tour began in September 2018 at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the tour was postponed after its 2020 Sydney show before picking back up on January 19, 2022, at New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center . With more than 300 planned concerts, the tour was named the Top Rock Tour at the Billboard Music Awards. Having sold more than five million tickets, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour is ranked as the second highest-grossing tour of all time, with the number one slot filled by Ed Sheeran ’s Divide tour.  From “Tiny Dancer” to “Bennie and the Jets” to “I’m Still Standing,” the multi-Grammy Award-winning star dressed in his infamous eye-catching costumes never failed to deliver his passion for performing to audiences. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour will conclude on July 8, 2023, in Stockholm, Sweden, with what is sure to be a glamorous show.

No. 4 – Karol G

This rising Colombian star announced her $trip Love Tour in 2022. With more than 80 shows scheduled over the course of three years, Karol G’s tour thrilled her fans, especially when performing hits like “Mi Cama,” “Tusa,” “El Makinon” and “Odisea.” The $trip Love Tour will end on March 12, 2023, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Karol G rose to fame following the breakthrough collaboration on “Ahora Me Llama” with Bad Bunny in 2017. Since then the Latin trap singer has won 2 Latin Grammy awards, 2 Billboard Music Awards and an AMA Award. Karol G’s latest album, KG0516 (2021), won Top Latin Album and was nominated for Best Musica Urbana Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

No. 3 – Grupo Firme

This Mexican banda group did not find mainstream success until they released hits like the 2020 single “Pídeme, El Roto and Juro Por Dios.” 2022 marked the year that Grupo Firme embarked on its first arena tour and performed in major cities throughout the United States and Mexico. The “Enfiestados y Amanecidos” Arena tour stunned crowds with the vibrancy and passion of Banda and mariachi music along with Folklorico dancers weaving through band members on stage. Arenas were filled with sounds of popular hits like “Ya Supérame (En Vivo),” “El Tóxico” and “En Tu Perra Vida.”

Grupo Firme would earn a nomination for the Premios Juventud, an award show for Spanish-speaking celebrities. Their newest album, Nos Divertimos Lo Grando Lo Imposible , won Grupo Firme its first Latin Grammy for Best Banda Album in November 2022.

No. 2 – Garth Brooks

From his humble beginnings playing local clubs in Oklahoma to selling out stadium concerts, Garth Brooks has certainly made his mark in the music industry. His Stadium Tour lasted more than three years, with nearly 95,000 dedicated Garth Brooks fans at each stop. With hits like “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old),” “The Dance,” “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and more, the tour proved to be an amazing spectacle complete with flashing lights and pyrotechnics.

The sales for The Stadium Tour rivaled that of The Eagles , The Rolling Stones, and The Grateful Dead as one of the most successful tours of all time. This Country Music Hall of Fame inductee is known for elevating his sound with elements of rock, producing platinum records, and selling out concerts worldwide.

Don’t fret if you missed seeing this icon on tour. Garth Brooks will be holding a 2023 Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace starting May 18.

No. 1 – Daddy Yankee

Daddy Yankee, aka the King of Reggaeton, will complete his farewell tour after more than 30 years in the music industry. The Puerto Rican rapper established the genre of reggaeton and a legacy to inspire future reggaeton artists. La Ultima Vuelta World Tour supported Daddy Yankee’s final album, Legendaddy (2022). With more than 80 scheduled shows, this tour brought Latin and reggaeton fans on a journey down memory lane with hits like “Gasolina” and “Ella Me Levanto,” while newer songs like “Con Calma” hyped up the crowd. La Ultima Vuelta World Tour was nominated for the Latin Tour of the Year at the 34th Pollstar Awards Show. Critics have praised Daddy Yankee’s performance, especially how he transformed every show into an epic dance party. Make sure to snag Daddy Yankee tickets as he concludes the U.S. leg of his tour in Miami, Fla. on December 22. Grande dethroned Jack Harlow’s “Lovin’ On Me,” which has spent the past two weeks at Number One after first topping the chart at the beginning of December. “Lovin’ On Me” fell to the second slot, while Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” took third and Tate McRae’s Greedy took fourth. 21 Savage, who also tops the Albums chart for American Dream, rounded out the top five on the Hot 100 for Redrum. He also took the 10 slot for “Nee-nah,” a collaboration with Travis Scott and Metro Boomin.

Beyond the single and its clean version, Grande also released a sped-up and slowed-down version of “Yes, And? — reflecting TikTok trends’ influence on releases — as well as an edited version, an extended mix, an instrumental version, and an extended mix of the instrumental version (with explicit and clean versions of each).

Promoting various versions of music in an effort to boost sales and chart numbers isn’t an uncommon tactic, though offering over a dozen different versions of one single in a debut week is a particularly aggressive strategy.

With this week’s chart numbers now set, the question becomes where “Yes, And” will stand on next week’s chart. Digital sales figures could dip as none of the song’s versions is currently in the top 25 on iTunes as of Monday, but the track remains the top trending music video on YouTube’s music chart and sits second on the Spotify Global 50 chart.

Formed under K-pop powerhouse JYP Entertainment in 2019, ITZY exploded on to the K-Pop scene with their debut single “DALLA DALLA.” The track ranked #3 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart and pulled in 17.1 million “day-of” music video views on YouTube. At the time, the song both broke the record for the most viewed K-pop debut music video in history and held the record for the fastest K-Pop debut music video to reach 100 million views. Billboard Magazine ranked “DALLA DALLA” at #20 on the “25 Best K-pop Songs of 2019: Critics’ Pick” and the group took home the Best New Artist Award at the 2020 Korean Music Awards. The group’s follow-up EP “WANNABE,” charted at #4 on the Song Sales chart and was one of the top 10 K-pop song to trend globally on Spotify, while also ranking on the Emerging Artists chart where it hit #31. ITZY’s third album, Not Shy , peaked on the Billboard Social 50 chart at #11 and World Album chart at #8, plus, their past albums, IT’z ICY and IT’z ME both entered the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.

ITZY kicked off 2021 with their first national U.S. broadcast appearance on MTV’s Fresh Out Live , racking in the largest performance views MTV had received for the platform. Then, in May, the group made their debut on the Billboard 200 album chart with their six-track EP GUESS WHO , which they followed up with their full-length studio debut, CRAZY IN LOVE . The album took the #1 spot across multiple Billboard charts, including Top Album Sales, Top Current Album Sales, and World Albums charts, and made a strong debut on Billboard’s Top 200-album chart where it reached #11, making ITZY only the third female K-pop group to score within the chart’s top 15. The album’s lead track, “LOCO,” which they performed on The Kelly Clarkson Show , reached #4 Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales. The track’s official music video also made a big splash, crossing one million views within 26 minutes of its release on YouTube, and it was nominated for a 2022 MTV VMA for “Best K-Pop.”

Last summer, ITZY released their 5 th mini album, CHECKMATE . The EP took the #8 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the group’s first top-10 ranking on the chart. Further, the group became the 4 th K-pop girl group to achieve a top 10 ranking on the Billboard 200. The group performed the EP’s lead track, “SNEAKERS,” on both MTV’s Fresh Out Live and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ’s “Late Show Me Music.” ITZY closed out the year with their sixth EP CHESHIRE and their first world tour – the CHECKMATE tour – in which the group played eight sold-out venues across the US, including Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater and New York’s Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. In July of 2023, ITZY released their seventh EP KILL MY DOUBT, which features tracks “Bet On Me,” “None of My Business,” and fan favorite, “CAKE”.

ITZY’s new EP, BORN TO BE , is out now.

Only 8 artists have topped the Billboard chart with 10 different albums — here they all are

  • The Billboard 200 is the definitive all-genre chart for album sales in the US.
  • Eight acts in Billboard history have topped the chart at least 10 different times.
  • The Beatles have the most No. 1 albums ever with 19, followed by Jay-Z with 14.

Insider Today

Since its official launch in 1956 , the Billboard 200 has tracked best-selling albums in the US.

Today, it's still an impressive feat to reign atop the chart, especially with several different albums.

Only a handful of artists have crossed into double-digit No. 1s, including modern superstars like Taylor Swift and Drake . All eight are listed below in ascending order.

Kanye West — 10

billboard top tours 2022

Ye , who still releases music under the name Kanye West , earned his first No. 1 album in 2005 with "Late Registration." He logged his 10th in 2021 with the surprise release of "Donda."

Eminem — 10

billboard top tours 2022

"The Marshall Mathers LP" by Eminem sold over 1 million copies in its debut week when it was released in 2000, easily earning a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200.

Two decades later, "Music to Be Murdered By" also debuted at No. 1, becoming Eminem's historic 10th chart-topper.

Bruce Springsteen — 11

billboard top tours 2022

Bruce Springsteen's 11 chart-topping albums span over three decades, from 1980's "The River" to 2014's "High Hopes."

Barbra Streisand — 11

billboard top tours 2022

Barbra Streisand logged her first No. 1 entry on the Billboard 200 with "People" in 1964.

Fifty-one years later, she set a record for the longest span between No. 1s when "Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway," her 2016 studio album, topped the chart.

Streisand previously had the most No. 1 albums among female artists until Taylor Swift broke her record in 2023 .

Drake has racked up 13 No. 1 albums in the same number of years , from 2010's "Thank Me Later" to 2023's "For All The Dogs."

His grand total also includes one mixtape ("Care Package"), two collaborative albums ("What A Time To Be Alive" with Future and "Her Loss" with 21 Savage), and one project mysteriously billed as a playlist ("More Life").

Taylor Swift — 13

billboard top tours 2022

Taylor Swift has only released one album that didn't top the chart: her self-titled debut, which peaked at No. 5 in 2008.

Swift earned her first No. 1 later that same year with "Fearless," which has since been ranked the fourth-biggest album in Billboard 200 history.

Most recently, " 1989 (Taylor's Version) " launched atop the chart with Swift's biggest sales week to date. It marked her 13th No. 1 album, extending her record for the most among women.

The following month, once "1989 (Taylor's Version)" logged its fifth week on top, Swift broke Elvis Presley's record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 among all solo artists.

Jay-Z began collecting No. 1s in 1998 with his third studio album, "Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life." In 2017, he extended his total to 14 with "4:44," setting a record among solo artists.

Jay-Z is also one of the most-awarded artists in Grammy history with 24 wins.

The Beatles — 19

billboard top tours 2022

The Beatles hold both Billboard records for the most No. 1 songs and the most No. 1 albums. The latter group includes classics like "Revolver" (1966), "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (1967), "Abbey Road" (1969), and the post-breakup compilation "1" (2000).

As a solo musician, Paul McCartney has topped the chart eight more times, while John Lennon managed the feat thrice before he died in 1980.

Customer

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. Russian Billboards Instruct Citizens How to Prepare 'Nuclear' Survival Kits

Russian authorities have put up digital billboards in Moscow that instruct citizens on how to prepare a "survival kit" in case of an attack, according to local media reports.

A clip of an electronic billboard telling citizens how to put together a survival kit was first published on social media on Sunday by news outlet "Caution, Moscow" on Telegram. It said the billboard video was posted officially by Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations, and cited local residents near Moscow's Gorky Park as saying that it is instructing people on what to do "in case of chemical and nuclear attacks."

A survival kit

The billboard instructions posted by the news outlet do not include the terms "nuclear attack" or "chemical attack," and it's unclear whether there is more to the clip than was published by Caution, Moscow or if there are other billboard announcements to which Muscovites are referring. Newsweek has contacted Russian authorities for comment.

It came as reports emerged that the Kremlin has ordered bomb shelters to be upgraded throughout Russia. The Moscow Times reported in February that current and former Russian officials have said the Kremlin ordered inspections and repairs on shelters and bunkers amid rising fears that the country could be targeted by strikes during its war with Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ramped up nuclear rhetoric months into his full-scale invasion of Ukraine, in September 2022, after he proclaimed to have annexed four partially controlled Ukrainian regions. Nobody has publicly issued nuclear threats against Russia. More recently, he has sought to portray the planned provision of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine's forces as a "significant escalation" in the war, falsely claiming that they are weapons with a nuclear component. The International Atomic Energy Agency said depleted uranium is "considerably less radioactive than natural uranium."

The billboard screen shows detailed instructions on how to assemble an emergency suitcase, or a survival kit.

"Contents of a survival kit: a first aid kit, hand or head flashlight and battery supplies, hunting matches, dry alcohol, gas, cell phone, radio, and battery supplies, utility knife, repair kit (threads, and needles, food and water supply ( for a minimum of three days), disposable tableware, personal hygiene products, and a change of underwear," it reads.

The billboard tells onlookers to visit the ministry website for more information.

A Moscow news outlet, msk1.ru, quoted the ministry as confirming that the video is official. The ministry declined to elaborate on why it had gone up.

There have been a series of incidents on Russian soil Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

  • Russian factory that makes nuclear missile engines catches fire
  • Putin compares new NATO plans to 1930s fascist axis
  • Ukraine flag raised in Crimea as resistance grows to Russian rule
  • What Putin's arrest could look like

On March 23, a fire broke out on the territory of a Russian factory that manufactures equipment for the country's army . There have also been multiple reports of drone attacks deep inside Russia in recent months.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said last week the ministry plans to update anti-missile defense systems in Moscow.

"This year we will complete the modernization of the anti-missile defense systems of the city of Moscow," Shoigu said in an address to military officials on March 22, according to Agence France-Presse.

Live Nation Is 2022’s Top Promoter After Post-COVID Windfall From Bad Bunny, The Weeknd & More

The concert giant leads competitors by $2 billion in this year's Boxscore ranking.

The touring industry’s comeback from the pandemic brought record revenues and ticket sales for the world’s largest promoter, Live Nation, No. 1 on Billboard ’s year-end Top Promoters ranking.

Elle King Reschedules Additional Performances After Dolly Parton Tribute Backlash

Live Nation’s reported gross was more than the combined $3.9 billion reported by the promoters ranked from Nos. 2-10.

While Live Nation benefitted from strong demand for arena shows, Cowen and Company analyst Stephen Glagola says Live Nation’s global distribution scale, customizable platform for event managers and its ability to finance artists add to their competitive edge.

“The $9 billion in artists’ fees paid this year is one of their biggest advantages,” Glagola tells Billboard, referencing money Live Nation collects through ticketing and other business areas that it returns to the artist.

As a promoter, Live Nation also gives artists financial guarantees as much as 10 months in advance of events. While that makes Live Nation vulnerable to sharp declines in attendance due to sudden events like a COVID-19 outbreak, it is also a persuasive tool to lock in the biggest artists’ tours.

Live Nation had three of the top 10-highest grossing tours of 2022: Bad Bunny was No. 1, grossing $373.5 million; Red Hot Chili Peppers were No. 6, grossing $177 million; and The Weeknd was No. 10, with $131.1 million.

While promotion is considered a low-margin business for Live Nation, Glagola says, it “drives the flywheel” of the company’s overall economics.

“By getting more artists to promote and tour, it drives some of their higher margin, ancillary revenue, such as food and beverage and hospitality within their owned and operated venues, and the expansion of ticketing,” says Glagola.

On the company’s most recent earnings call, Live Nation executives said the busy 2023 touring season is fueling high demand for live music, despite ongoing questions about the potential impact high inflation and tighter consumer budgets may have on ticket sales.

So far, the company is seeing surging demand.

“Ticket sales for shows in 2023 are pacing even stronger than they were heading into 2022, up double-digits year-over-year, excluding sales from rescheduled shows,” said Rapino. Through the third quarter, Ticketmaster sold over 115 million tickets, up 37% from the same period in 2019. (Live Nation uses 2019 as the most recent year comparable to just its current business.)

Contrary to many industries, supply fuels demand, analysts at Cowen said.

“It has to do with the fact that Taylor Swift only comes on tour every few years,” Glagola says. “When she comes through your hometown you want to see her.”

However, popularity has its pitfalls. Live Nation faces lawsuits and a U.S. Senate hearing next year related to the Nov. 15 Ticketmaster pre-sale for Swift’s 2023 Eras Tour, which saw widespread service delays and website crashes as hundreds of thousands of fans tried — and many failed — to buy tickets.
