How Heavy Is A School Bus? (Empty And Full)

Last updated on March 20th, 2023 at 12:53 pm

This article will show you the weights of different sized school busses.

School busses are such a common sight around the United States and the rest of the world that they’re often taken for granted.

However, as you see a school bus driving down the street, you may wonder how much a bus weighs.

How much does an empty school bus weigh?

There are a few different types and sizes of school buses, so how much each one weighs when it’s empty will vary a bit.

On average, an empty school bus weighs about 15,000 pounds or 7.5 US tons. This weight will most likely include the fluids in the engine, fuel, and any add-ons the bus has, but it doesn’t necessarily include the weight of the passengers.

School buses come in a few standard types, and while each brand and model will weigh a bit differently, getting to know the various types can help you make an educated guess when it comes to how much the bus weighs.

How much does a small school bus weigh?

The smallest school bus type is called Type A.

These are usually shaped much like a van, but they can generally hold more than 10 passengers.

Type A buses are broken into two categories.

Type A-1 busses have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 14,500 pounds. Type A-2 busses usually weigh between 14,500 pounds and 21,500 pounds, or 7.25 to 10.75 US tons, when they are fully fueled and loaded with passengers.

The Type A-I bus is generally smaller and lighter, weighing less than 14,500 pounds, while the larger Type A-II bus can hold more people and is often at the heavier end of the spectrum.

When considering, for example, how much a 24 passenger bus weighs, you could estimate with relative accuracy that a bus that can hold that amount of people is likely a Type A-II vehicle and will weigh somewhere between 14,500-21,500 pounds when full.

Type B buses are also relatively small.

These buses are generally longer than Type A buses, but they have a short front end, with at least part of the engine located under the windshield and next to the driver’s seat.

Type B busses are designed to hold more than 10 people, and, although they tend to be larger than Type A buses, they start at 10,000 pounds and go up from there.

How much does a large school bus weigh?

Type C school buses are perhaps the most common or easily pictured school bus style.

These buses have a long nose and feature a hood.

Type C buses are designed to hold a greater amount of passengers.

Some Type C buses can easily hold 72 passengers.

The weight of a Type C bus varies depending on the exact make and model, but these buses can weigh anywhere from 15,500 to 21,500 when they’re empty. When they’re full, most of these vehicles are rated at between 25,000 and 30,000 pounds or 12.5 to 15 US tons.

Type D buses are very similar to Type C buses except they have a flat front end and the door is located before the front wheels.

These buses tend to be quite large, measuring up to 45 feet in length, and they are designed to hold up to 72 passengers, which is why they’re such a common sight in more populated areas, such as cities.

Type D buses generally weigh within the same range as Type C buses, coming in at between 15,000 and 21,500 pounds when they’re empty.

A type A-2 school bus can weigh between 14,500-21,500 pounds.

How much does a full school bus weigh?

How much a full school bus weighs compared to an empty one depends on a number of factors, including how many people are riding the bus, what age the people are, and what type of bus it is.

You can estimate that the average weight of a group of children riding a school bus will be about 100 pounds per person.

Multiplying this by how many people are riding the bus will give you a starting estimate of the additional weight.

However, you should also keep in mind the fact that younger children will generally weigh less, while older children will weigh more.

When calculating how much a full school bus weighs when compared to an empty one, you’ll also need to take into account the weight of any belongings the passengers are bringing on board.

For bigger buses, a full school bus can weigh as much as 10,000 pounds more than an empty bus.

A typical fully-loaded school bus can weigh anywhere from 12,000 to 36,000 pounds (5,400 to 16,300 kg). The weight of a school bus can be influenced by its seating capacity, number of axles, engine size, and the materials used in its construction. It’s important to keep in mind that the weight of a school bus includes not only the vehicle itself but also the weight of the passengers and any additional cargo.

Factors Affecting the Weight of a School Bus

When it comes to transporting students safely, school buses play a vital role. However, have you ever wondered how much these behemoth vehicles actually weigh? The weight of a school bus depends on several factors that we will explore in this article. By understanding these factors, you will gain insights into the weight distribution, average weight ranges, regulations, weighing methods, and the importance of knowing the weight of a school bus.

Size and Type of the School Bus

One of the primary factors influencing the weight of a school bus is its size and type. School buses come in various sizes, including small, medium, and large. Small size buses, often referred to as mini-buses, usually weigh between 8,000 to 10,000 pounds. In contrast, medium-sized buses can range from 15,000 to 20,000 pounds. Large-sized school buses, typically used for transporting a larger number of students, can weigh anywhere from 25,000 to 36,000 pounds or more. The size and type of the school bus determine its weight capacity and overall weight.

Materials Used in Construction

The materials used in the construction of a school bus also play a significant role in determining its weight. Most school buses are built using steel frames, which provide durability and strength. The steel framework adds considerable weight to the bus. In addition to the steel structure, other materials such as aluminum and fiberglass are used to construct specific components, such as doors, windows, and body panels. While these materials are lighter than steel, they still contribute to the overall weight of the bus.

Seating Capacity

The seating capacity of a school bus is an obvious factor affecting its weight. The more seats a bus has, the higher its weight will be. School buses are designed to accommodate a certain number of passengers based on safety regulations. The number of seats, along with the weight of each seat, directly impacts the weight of the bus. Additionally, school buses are equipped with safety features such as seat belts, which further increase their weight.

Additional Features and Accessories

Many school buses come equipped with additional features and accessories, which can add to their weight. These features may include air conditioning systems, wheelchair ramps, storage compartments, and overhead luggage racks. While these features enhance the comfort and functionality of the bus, they also contribute to its overall weight. The more additional features a school bus has, the heavier it will be.

Weight Distribution in a School Bus

Understanding the weight distribution within a school bus is essential for ensuring its safety and stability on the road. Here are the key areas where the weight is distributed:

Front and Rear Axle Weight

The weight distribution between the front and rear axles of a school bus is critical in maintaining proper balance and stability. The weight is typically distributed unevenly, with a larger portion of the weight at the rear due to the engine placement. The front axle carries the weight of the front portion of the bus, while the back axle bears the weight of the engine, passengers, and cargo. Proper weight distribution between the axles is crucial for safe handling and maneuverability.

Chassis and Body Weight

The weight of a school bus is distributed between the chassis and body structure. The chassis is the foundation of the bus and supports the body structure and components. The weight of the chassis is primarily determined by the materials used and the design specifications. The body structure includes the seats, windows, doors, and other components. The weight distribution between the chassis and body affects the overall stability and performance of the bus.

Engine Weight

The weight of the engine is a significant factor in the overall weight of a school bus. Most school buses are equipped with diesel engines, which are heavier compared to gasoline engines. The engine weight, combined with other components such as the transmission, contributes to the weight distribution in the rear of the bus. The engine size and power also affect the overall weight of the bus.

Passenger and Cargo Weight

The weight of the passengers and any cargo being transported on the bus also affects its overall weight distribution. Each passenger adds to the total weight, and their positioning within the bus can influence the weight distribution between the front and rear axles. Cargo items such as backpacks, musical instruments, and sports equipment further contribute to the overall weight. Properly distributing the weight of passengers and cargo is crucial for maintaining stability and avoiding overloading.

Average Weight Ranges of Different School Bus Types

As mentioned earlier, school buses come in different sizes, and each size has its own average weight range. Here’s a breakdown of the average weight ranges for each type of school bus:

Small Size School Buses

Small size school buses, also known as mini-buses, typically weigh between 8,000 to 10,000 pounds. These buses are designed to transport a smaller number of students and have a seating capacity of around 15 to 30 passengers.

Medium Size School Buses

Medium size school buses have an average weight range of 15,000 to 20,000 pounds. These buses can accommodate a larger number of passengers, usually between 30 to 45. They are commonly used for regular school routes and field trips.

Large Size School Buses

Large size school buses are the heavyweights of the school bus category, weighing anywhere from 25,000 to 36,000 pounds or more. These buses have a higher seating capacity, often ranging from 60 to 90 passengers. They are commonly used for long-distance trips and transporting a significant number of students.

While these are the average weight ranges, it’s important to note that the actual weight of a school bus can vary depending on factors such as the manufacturer, build specifications, and additional features.

Regulations and Standards for School Bus Weight

To ensure the safety and proper functioning of school buses, there are regulations and standards in place regarding their weight. These regulations are enforced at both the federal and state levels.

Federal Regulations

At the federal level, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) sets guidelines for commercial motor vehicles, including school buses. The FMCSA has regulations regarding the weight limits and maximum capacity of school buses. These regulations are designed to ensure that school buses are not overloaded, thus maintaining safety on the road.

State-Specific Regulations

In addition to federal regulations, each state may have its own specific regulations regarding school bus weight. These regulations can vary in terms of weight limits, axle weight distribution, and specific requirements for different types of school buses. It’s important for school districts and bus operators to be aware of these state-specific regulations and comply with them to avoid any legal issues.

Weight Rating Standards

School buses, like other vehicles, are assigned weight rating standards. These standards indicate the maximum weight that a vehicle can safely carry, including passengers, cargo, and other components. It’s important for school districts and bus operators to adhere to these weight rating standards to ensure the safety and longevity of the bus.

Weighing Methods for School Buses

Determining the weight of a school bus accurately is crucial for compliance with regulations and ensuring the bus is operating safely. Here are some commonly used weighing methods for school buses:

Axle Weighing

Axle weighing involves measuring the weight on each axle of the bus using specialized axle scales or load cells. This method allows for a precise measurement of the weight distribution between the front and rear axles. Axle weighing is commonly used at weighing stations and maintenance facilities to ensure compliance with weight regulations and maintain proper weight distribution.

Weighbridge Scales

Weighbridge scales, also known as truck scales or weigh stations, are large scales that can accommodate the entire school bus. School buses are driven onto the scales, and the weight of the entire vehicle is measured. Weighbridge scales are typically used for larger buses and can provide a comprehensive measurement of the overall weight.

Portable Vehicle Scales

Portable vehicle scales are lightweight and portable scales that can be placed under each wheel of the bus individually. These scales provide an accurate measurement of the weight on each wheel and axle. Portable vehicle scales are convenient for on-site weighing at bus depots, maintenance facilities, or during roadside inspections.

How Much Does A School Bus Weigh? Complete Details

Have you ever wondered how heavy a school bus is? Well, you’re not alone. School buses play a big role in getting kids to and from school safely. And since they carry a lot of people, they’re usually a lot heavier than a regular car.

On average, an empty school bus can weigh anywhere from 10,000 to 25,000 pounds, depending on its size and specifications. But, once students and their belongings are on board, the weight of the bus can skyrocket to as much as 36,000 pounds!

In this article, we’ll give you the scoop on the average weight of a school bus and what factors can affect how heavy it is. Let’s get started!

How Much Does A School Bus Weigh?

An empty school bus typically weighs in the range of 10,000 to 25,000 pounds, but once it’s loaded with students and their supplies, the weight can reach as high as 36,000 pounds!

It’s crucial to remember that these are just rough estimates, as the type of school bus can have a significant impact on its weight.

It’s no wonder that the weight of these vehicles can vary so greatly with a variety of school bus sizes available.

Below I have discussed each school bus in deep detail.

Type A Bus Weigh

A Type A school bus, a minibus or a short bus, typically weighs around 10,000 pounds (4,536 to 6,350 kilograms) when empty.

With students and school supplies on board, the weight can increase to as much as 14,500 pounds. These smaller buses are typically used for shorter routes.

Type A-2 school bus is slightly different from Type A-1 due to their increased passenger capacity. An empty Type A-2 bus weighs around 10,000 pounds same as an A-1 school bus, while a fully loaded one with up to 24 passengers can weigh up to 21,500 pounds, which is equivalent to 7 to 11 tons.

Type B Bus Weigh

The Type B school bus often nicknamed the “half-bus,” is a transportation vehicle that stands out for its distinct design. With a shorter front and longer back, it resembles a truck with a bus body attached. Despite being larger than a Type A bus, it’s close to the Type A-2.

The Type B school bus is a great choice for smaller groups of students. When it’s empty, it weighs about 10,000 pounds, which is pretty light.

But when it’s full of students, the weight goes up to around 21,500 pounds, just like the bigger Type A-2 bus.

Depending on the size of the students, it can fit anywhere from 10 to 24 of them comfortably.

Type C Bus Weigh

The Type C bus is a staple of school transportation, known for its iconic shape. With a long front and a longer back, it can carry a whole lot of kids, up to a maximum of 72!

When an empty Type C bus hits the road, it weighs as much as a fully packed Type A or Type B bus!

This is because there are different types of Type C buses, some bigger than others. The bigger the bus, the more weight it will have.

An empty Type C bus can weigh anywhere from 15,500 pounds to 21,500 pounds. But once it’s filled with passengers, the weight jumps to between 25,000 to 30,000 pounds!

When the bus is carrying more passengers than it can hold, it can get even heavier. This means the bus could weigh up to 12 to 15 tons!

Type D Bus Weigh

The Type D bus is pretty much the same as a Type C bus, but it’s got a different look up front. Instead of having a long front end, Type D has a flat one. This means the door is positioned in front of the front wheels, instead of behind them. This type of bus is especially popular in cities because of its unique design.

The main difference is that Type D buses have a flat front instead of a long one, which makes them more suitable for city roads. Just like Type C buses, they are long and can fit up to 72 people on board.

The weight of a Type D bus varies based on whether it’s empty or carrying passengers. When empty, these buses weigh in the range of 15,500 to 21,500 pounds. However, when filled to capacity, the weight increases to an average of 25,000 to 30,000 pounds.

How Is A School Bus’s Weight Determined?

When figuring out how heavy a school bus is, there are some things that can affect its weight. Even a tiny change in one of these things can make two buses of the same type have different weights. Here are some things that determine a school bus’s weight.

Material of Construction:

The construction material of a school bus also plays a role in determining its weight. A bus made from lighter materials like aluminum will weigh less than a bus made from heavier materials like steel. However, the choice of material also depends on the intended use of the bus and the regulations that govern the construction of school buses in a particular area.

Buses made from heavier materials can provide a higher level of safety, but they also consume more fuel and are more expensive to maintain. Buses made from lighter materials are more fuel-efficient and cost-effective, but they may not provide the same level of safety. The choice of construction material is a trade-off between cost, efficiency, and safety.

Length of Bus:

Did you know that the length of a school bus affects how much it weighs? The shortest buses, Type A, use less materials in their construction compared to Type C and D buses. Type C and D buses are the longest and have more mass, making them heavier than Type A and B buses.

The number of seats a bus has can also play a role in its weight. For example, a Type C bus with 30 seats will weigh less than one with 35 seats. This is because even if everything else is the same, the bus with more seats will weigh more due to the extra weight of the seats. It’s important to remember that school bus seats are not always made for comfort and can add some weight to the bus.

To make sure the seats are strong and long-lasting, they’re usually built with steel frames and cushions that are designed to withstand lots of wear and tear. But, all those extra materials add up, making a bus that has more seats weigh more than one with fewer seats.

Some buses may have different-sized seats, depending on their intended purpose. For example, buses made to transport disabled students or sports teams may have a unique seat design that uses special materials to ensure their passengers are comfortable. These modifications can influence the overall weight of the bus.

Another factor that contributes to a school bus’ weight is the size and type of gas tank. A bus with a large gas tank may have more fuel, meaning it will weigh more overall. Similarly, if a bus is designed with a smaller gas tank to reduce weight, it will naturally weigh less. Additionally, some buses use different types of fuel, such as propane, which can also impact the weight of the bus.

Different buses may have varying fuel tank sizes, which can influence their weight. For example, a bus with a newer, fuel-efficient tank is likely to weigh less compared to a bus with an older, less efficient tank that requires a larger or heavier fuel storage solution.

Storage refers to any additional compartments or containers used to hold supplies, equipment, or luggage. These storage compartments can take up extra space and add weight to the bus.

Some school buses have under-floor storage compartments, roof-mounted storage containers, or additional shelves and cabinets inside the bus. These storage options can greatly impact the bus’s weight, as the materials used for storage, such as metal or plastic, can be quite heavy.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, an empty school bus can weigh anywhere from 10,000 to 25,000 pounds and it can be affected by several factors, such as its length, number of seats, construction material, storage options, and size of its gas tank. By understanding how these factors influence a bus’s weight, you can make informed decisions about which type of bus is best for your needs.

What is the weight of a normal bus?

On average, a standard city bus weighs between 10,000 and 30,000 kilograms (22,000 to 66,000 pounds).

How much does a tour bus weigh in kg?

A tour bus can weigh anywhere from 15,000 to 40,000 kilograms (33,000 to 88,000 pounds) depending on its size and features.

What is the minimum weight of a bus?

It depends on the classification and purpose of the bus, but there’s no universal minimum weight for all buses. It depends on factors like size, design, capacity, and regional regulations.

How heavy is a commercial bus?

It depends on the size and features of commercial buses, which include transit buses and intercity buses. A commercial bus weighs an average of 10,000 to 30,000 kilograms (22,000 to 66,000 pounds), but bigger ones can weigh up to 40,000 kilograms (88,000 pounds).

It’s important for bus operators to ensure that their buses comply with these weight limits to maintain their safety and integrity.

Why is the school bus yellow in Color?

Regarding the history of the school bus, it was not yellow like it is today. The yellow school bus began in April 1939 in the United States (US).

Frank Cyr, a professor at Columbia University, research school transportation in ten US states. As a result, Frank Cyr concluded that this facility was in deplorable condition. At that time, many school students did not have transportation to go where they needed to study. Frank Cyr organized a conference with school officials and transport experts. The conference discussed details about colors, heights, widths, and school transport safety rules that had never been established before.

fact Frank Cyr is known as the “Father of the Yellow School Bus.” And this color is used until today.

In addition, the color of the bus before the conference was very diverse. Initially, the bus colors were red, white, and blue to symbolize patriotism among students. But Frank Cyr offered education officials a new option with his visionary outlook. He declared to go with yellow and call it  “National School Bus Glossy Yellow.” This is approved by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Then to indicate the respective school district, bold writing is done on the right side of the bus, and this writing is in black.

The color and writing factors are crucial for school transportation that travels in the morning and evening. The yellow color is very striking and easy to see in all weather conditions. Yellow has always been an important color for daily routines. Just look, traffic lights also slip yellow as a sign of being careful or getting ready. After the conference, 35 states immediately made changes. They provide yellow school bus transportation.

How much does a school bus weigh?

How much does a typical school bus weigh?

How much does an empty school bus weigh, how much does a school bus weigh when it is full of students.

This is a difficult question to answer, as there are many factors that can affect the weight of a school bus. The size and type of bus, as well as the number of passengers and the amount of cargo being carried, can all play a role in the weight of the bus.

A typical school bus may weigh around 14,000 pounds (or 7 tons). However, buses that are designed to transport heavier loads, such as those used for field trips or sports teams , can weigh up to 30,000 pounds (or 15 tons).

The weight of a school bus can also vary depending on the materials used to construct the bus. For example, a bus made entirely of steel will weigh more than a bus made from a lighter-weight material such as aluminum.

To get an accurate estimate of the weight of a particular school bus, it is best to contact the manufacturer of the bus.

A typical school bus weighs around 14,000 pounds. That’s about seven tons. The average school bus is 40 feet long , and most can seat 77 to 84 passengers.

Different types of school buses weigh different amounts. A smaller bus, like a minibus, might weigh around 10,000 pounds. A full-size bus could weigh as much as 30,000 pounds.

To find out how much your school bus weighs, look for the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) on the manufacturer’s plate. This is the maximum weight of the bus, including passengers, Cargo, and fuel.

The GVWR is different from the Curb Weight, which is the weight of an empty vehicle. To find the Curb Weight, look for the markings on the inside of the driver’s door.

Factors that affect a school bus’s weight are: - The size of the bus - The number of passengers it can hold - The amount of cargo it can carry - The type of engine - The materials used to build the bus

School buses are built to be durable and heavy-duty, to stand up to the wear and tear of daily use. They’re made of strong materials like steel and reinforced glass. This makes them heavier than your typical passenger car, which might weigh around 3,000 pounds.

The weight of a school bus is important because it affects the number of passengers it can safely carry, the amount of cargo it can hold, and the performance of the engine. A heavy bus will require a more powerful engine to get it moving. It will also use more fuel than a lighter bus.

So, how much does a typical school bus weigh? Around 14,000 pounds, or seven tons. But the exact weight will depend on the size and features of the bus.

An empty school bus typically weighs between 8,000 and 9,000 pounds. The weight of the bus will vary depending on the model and make of the bus. For example, a smaller bus such as a minibus, will weigh less than a full-sized school bus. The weight of the bus will also vary depending on the materials it is made out of. For example, a school bus that is made out of aluminum will weigh less than one made out of steel.

Most school buses weigh between 18,000 and 30,000 pounds when they are empty. They can weigh up to 60,000 pounds when they are full of students.

How much does a school bus weigh when it is full of adults?

A school bus typically seats between 36 and 84 students and weighs between 14,000 and 33,000 pounds (6,350 and 14,969 kilograms) when empty. However, the weight of the bus increases significantly when it is full of adults. A school bus full of adults can weigh anywhere from 26,000 to 58,000 pounds (11,793 to 26,309 kilograms). The average weight of an adult is approximately 185 pounds (84.1 kilograms). This means that, on average, each adult adds 185 pounds (84.1 kilograms) to the weight of the bus. Therefore, a school bus full of adults can weigh upwards of 58,000 pounds (26,309 kilograms).

How much does a school bus weigh when it is carrying a load of students and adults?

A school bus typically weighs between 19,500 and 22,000 pounds when it is carrying a load of students and adults. The average school bus can seat between 66 and 90 passengers, with an average weight of 150 pounds per passenger. This means that a school bus can weigh anywhere between 3,000 and 13,500 pounds when it is fully loaded with passengers.

How much does a school bus weigh when it is carrying a load of students and adults and luggage?

Assuming an average school bus length of 40 feet , an average width of 8 feet, and an average height of 10 feet , the average school bus holds approximately 320 cubic feet of space. When filled with an average of 25-30 passengers, each weighing an average of 150 pounds, plus an additional 150 pounds of luggage, the school bus would weigh approximately 10,000 pounds when fully loaded. However, the actual weight of a school bus may vary depending on the manufacturer and the specific details of the bus.

How much does a school bus weigh when it is carrying a load of students and adults and luggage and school supplies?

A school bus typically weighs between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds when empty. When carrying a load of students and adults, as well as luggage and school supplies, the bus can weigh up to 20,000 pounds.

How much does a school bus weigh when it is carrying a load of students and adults and luggage and school supplies and sports equipment?

A typical school bus weighs about 25,000 pounds when it is empty. When it is carrying a load of students and adults, along with luggage and school supplies, the weight can increase to as much as 40,000 pounds. The weight of the bus will also vary depending on the manufacturer and the model of the bus.

How Much Does a School Bus Weigh?

You can expect an average school bus weight to be about 24,387 pounds (11,062 kg).

When looking at the specs for different school busses, the weight will be typically listed as GVWR . This stands for gross vehicle weight rating or the maximum weight of the vehicle including the vehicle’s chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers, and cargo, excluding any trailers.

For pulling a school bus, it’s recommended to use a truck that can tow at least 15,000 pounds for the lightest school busses. This would account for the additional weight of passengers and cargo. The average F-350 truck can handle a towing capacity of 12,000 to 20,000 pounds depending on your model. With most larger school busses, you’ll need a commercial-grade tow vehicle to haul them if they cannot be driven.

Many school bus resale companies do offer bus delivery. However, if you do plan to tow a school bus yourself, or drive it over certain areas, it’s important to know your bus weight for legal and safe driving.

Make sure to check your vehicle’s  towing capacity . This can be found in your owner’s manual or the manufacturer’s website as your gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).

7 Example School Bus Weights

The following chart features example school bus weights of specific models ranging from the lightest to the heaviest used on the road. Additional details can be found on the manufacturer’s websites. Here’s the school bus weight chart:

Source: WeSellSchoolBusses

Additional Weight and Trailer Options

The additional weight you will encounter with a school bus will come from a few areas. Those areas being seats, add-ons, handicap lifts, additional storage, and fuel or propane gas (wet weight). This creates an additional weight to consider when towing and traveling on a school bus.

Make sure to refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual and read the section on towing capacity. It’s always safer to leave some extra wiggle room to not damage your engine.

To Conclude

School busses provide a great mode of transport out on the road, whether that’s for transporting kids, or a buildout for a school bus conversion aka skoolie. Each make, model, and size comes along with its own weight based on use and if any mods are installed. The key factors to consider the weight of a school bus come down to:

  • Construction/material
  • What’s stored inside
  • Fuel tank/gas propane

It’s important to know the correct weight when looking to tow and transport your school bus. If you’re unsure and want specific weights, you can always check the manufacture’s website or go to a local cat scale  to get a more accurate weight.

Russia: One Week Itinerary

Russia , the largest country in the world has been on my bucketlist for the longest time. This is where the first ‘women only’ tour of Ticking the Bucketlist is headed. We are off tomorrow and would be spending one week in this enchanting land!

Here is what our ‘one week in Russia’ itinerary looks like….

Day 1: Moscow – Izmailovsky Flea Market and ‘Moscow by Night’

We start our trip from Delhi on an Aeroflot flight and reach Moscow at about 0835 in the morning. We head straight to our hotel to stretch our legs and get some shut-eye. We need to charge our batteries for the Russian sojourn. We are staying in the Best Western Vega at the Izmailovsky area, which is very famous for its local flea market. The  Izmailovsky Market is the best place in Moscow for souvenir shopping …dolls, porcelain, jewelry boxes…we will buy them all from here.

Day 2: Moscow – Moscow City Tour and Kremlin Tour

A red building at the Red Square of the Kremlin

Having seen the city’s light the previous night, it is time to see the city’s colours this morning. We will set off on the Moscow City Tour shows us the highlights of city, starting with the Red Square. This is our day to click a 1000 pictures in front of all the monuments that represent Moscow…St Basil’s Cathedral, the Bolshoi theatre, the Olympic Stadium and the Sparrow Hills.

Exploring the Kremlin

Today is also the day to visit and learn more about the most famous monument in Russia. Kremlin, literally means a fort inside a city. Dynasties built on the site, one century after another and the site came to known as the Kremlin in the 14the century. The walled structure of the Kremlin includes palaces and cathedrals… and a historical past!

Later in the evening, we will enjoy the Russian circus that many of us have seen to television ever so often. Acrobats, clowns and animals….its is time to let the little girl in you come out and clap her hands!

Day 3: Moscow – Metro Stations and Arbat Street followed by the Bolshoi Ballet

Mosaics on the walls of the metro station

Today, we set out to explore the metro stations of Moscow, each of which is a stellar work of art. Stunning frescos and chandeliers in marble surroundings… it’s a work of art! We will then walk along the Arbat street, which is the city’s only pedestrian street, lined with shops and cafes.

As the night unfolds, I intend to don a classy dress and get set to watch one of the finest shows on earth at the Bolshoi Theatre. I have always been awestruck by the art form and would love to see some of the best performers in the world move gracefully. A performance that is rated as one of the best in the world has to be ticked off my bucketlist!

Day 4: Moscow – Day Tour to Sergiev Posad followed by a crazy bar hopping night!

Sergiev Posad is one the strongest spiritual centres in Russia. Home to stunning churches, Sergiev Posad will give us a flavour of the famous ‘Golden Ring’ of Russia. The tour will take 5-7 hours and we will be back at the hotel in second half.

Exploring Sergiev Posad

This will be our last night in Moscow, and we are not going to leave the city without sampling some fine Russian vodka. So, this night is dedicated to bar hopping and pub crawling. Hope to meet some travellers and make new friends.

Day 5: Saint Petersburg – Sapsan train experience to Saint Petersburg and Matryoshka Doll painting class

Saint Petersburg , our next destination, is at least 700 km away from Moscow… and we will zip zap zoom on the Sapsan (the high speed train) to get there in about four hours! The high speed trains are engineering marvels, worth experiencing and we ride this iron horse in the afternoon, reaching St Peterburg in the evening.

As a group, we also join a masterclass to paint our own nested Matryoshka dolls… our own little souvenir to carry and remind us of a fun week in Russia.

With our very own Matryoshka dolls!

Day 6: Saint Petersburg – City Tour and Peterhof Palace

The day starts with a city tour of Saint Petersburg that will give us a peek into what this city has… many bridges, stunning castles, colourful cathedrals and fortresses.

Post lunch, we will head to the Peterhof Palace, also called the Russian Versailles. With spring having set in, the gardens would be green and the fountains will put up a show…I am excited!

Peterhof Palace

Day 7: Saint Petersburg – Hermitage Museum and Shopping

The highlights tour on the previous day will surely make us want to see more of Saint Petersburg…and we will do so by visiting the Hermitage Museum, which is also called the ‘Louvre of Russia’. The Hermitage complex itself is of architectural delight … and the collections have stories to speak which will hopefully, spike our interest enough to make to go back read our history textbooks.

The Hermitage Museum

The rest of the day is totally free to visit any of the other monuments or simply shop … it’s every girl’s favourite sport, isn’t it?

Our last night Russia… Oh Russia!!!! Tonight we will explore the party scene in SPB … or maybe … pack for the next day?

Day 8: Saint Petersburg …Bye Bye Russia

Memories, souvenirs and new friendships… it’s time take them all back to India! We check out of our hotel and take the flight from SPB to Delhi, via Moscow.

Farewell Russia!

You know I have never considered Russia but this itinerary looks amazing. St. Petersburg looks beautiful. I will certainly consider a trip there now

I’ve only been to St Petersburg so far, and did a few tours in the city and around. But I have a good friend in Moscow, so the incentive is definitely there to go back. I enjoy doing those by night experiences and see how cities transform in different times of day – especially if it’s topped with a circus visit, amazing 🙂

I have always been fascinated by Russia. I like the colourful rounds domes on the Palaces just like an Aladin’s Palace. FIFA Football World will be held in Russia next year and I will try my best to visit this beautiful country and will follow your itinerary and contact you. 🙂

Moscow and Kremlin city tour looks amazing. Your one week itinerary is helpful and complete tour of Russian delights. St.Petersburg city tour is also enchanting and splendid. I really want to have Russian vacation now after seeing your pictures

Wow, this is awesome. Well weaved itinerary! We had always dreamed of taking pictures of those onion-domed palaces and those colors on the palaces are just mind blowing. We didn’t know that there is a Versailles in Russia the exterior paint and the colors look much similar. We had loved it in France and would love to visit it in Russia too.

The Peterhof Palace is a delight to visit. Highly recommend it if you are in SPB

I haven’t visited Russia, but it’s definitely on the list! This a great itinerary, I love how you included things to do but also gave some leeway to do things on your own as well (like shopping haha). Beautiful pictures, the buildings and Russian dolls are stunning! I wonder if they’re all hand painted.

The dolls are all hand painted. The cost increases depending on the quality of work and the artist.

Harris and Walz make small town stops in western Pennsylvania bus tour ahead of DNC

The democratic national convention is set to begin in chicago on monday., by darlene superville and michelle l. price | associated press • published august 18, 2024 • updated on august 18, 2024 at 7:04 pm.

Democratic presidential nominee  Kamala Harris  and running mate Tim Walz gave pep talks to campaign volunteers and a high school football team Sunday, with their bus tour in a corner of Pennsylvania serving as a modest, small-town version of the grand rally she's expected to have at the Democratic nominating convention in Chicago this week.

Vice President Harris and Walz, the governor of Minnesota, were joined by their spouses, Doug Emhoff and Gwen Walz, as they toured in a blue bus. They stopped off to visit volunteers at a campaign office not far from Pittsburgh before continuing on to a firehouse and a high school in another town, along with a pilgrimage to a Sheetz convenience store, part of a storied Pennsylvania chain.

Throughout their stops, Harris and her running mate shied away from policy or much politics, instead sticking to broad-strokes messages focused on character, perseverance and the future of the country.

Harris, while speaking to a group of supporters and volunteers outside the campaign office in the borough of Rochester, spoke about strength and leadership. She appeared to make a veiled reference to former President Donald Trump , the Republican presidential nominee, who is known for his pugilistic style and projection of a strongman image, when she said the “real and true measure of a strength of a leader is based on who you lift up,” rather than who they beat down.

Here's where Harris and Trump stand on top issues in presidential race

“Anybody who is about beating down other people is a coward,” she yelled, drawing cheers and applause. “This is what strength looks like.”

Walz in his remarks seemed to assume the role of his former job coaching high school football and told the volunteers: “Let’s leave it all on the field. Let’s get this thing done.”

Rochester is in in Beaver County, which Trump won in 2020. But the Democrats are riding on renewed enthusiasm after President Joe Biden  dropped his reelection bid exactly four weeks ago and endorsed Harris to replace him on the ticket.

As Harris' motorcade left the town, it rolled by a group of about 50 Trump supporters waiting near the road with signs of support for the former president. A handful of Harris supporters were standing nearby with their own signs.

The vice president next stopped at a firehouse in Aliquippa, where she met firefighters, petted the station's dog and gave the crew almond pastries, before heading to a nearby high school, where they met with the local football coach and addressed the team, who kneeled on the field to listen.

Walz again slipped into coach mode, reminiscing a bit about his days leading a team and the sport's character before introducing Harris. She praised the young athletes for their leadership: “Our nation is counting on you and your excellence. We applaud your ambition.

She also told them, “Welcome to the role model club.”

Southwestern Pennsylvania is a critical part of a key battleground state that has long commanded the attention of presidential candidates. The state voted for Trump in 2016 and for Biden in 2020. Both Harris and Trump are vying to see who can put Pennsylvania in their column on Nov. 5.

Most polls, including from the New York Times/Siena College and Fox News, find Harris and Trump locked in a tight race statewide.

Trump held a rally Saturday in Wilkes-Barre in the northeastern part of the state, following his earlier rallies in July in Harrisburg and Butler, where he survived an assassination attempt .

The bus tour marks Harris' eighth trip to Pennsylvania this year, and her second this month. The vice president chose to make her first joint appearance with Walz on the ticket in Philadelphia on Aug. 6.

On Sunday, they arrived with their spouses earlier at Pittsburgh International Airport and greeted supporters. The foursome held hands and raised their arms together in front of cheering supporters and then boarded a bright blue bus that says “Harris Walz” in big white letters as they set off to make stops in the Pittsburgh area to glad-hand with voters.

At a stop in the township of Moon, Harris popped into a Sheetz to seek out Doritos, her go-to snack.

In Rochester, Harris, Walz and their spouses spent a few minutes sitting at tables with volunteers and making phone calls to line up support.

Harris took a cellphone from a volunteer and spoke to the person on the other end.

“I love Erie. At some point we’ll get to Erie,” Harris said.

She continued the conversation at at one point said, “79 days to go."

Walz, sitting across the table from Harris, hung up from a call and said of the caller, “He’s all in,” and gave a thumbs up.

Kristin Kanthak, associate professor of political science at the University of Pittsburgh, said Pennsylvania “is a state that traditionally has been super important, but southwestern Pennsylvania has been really kind of the battleground part of the battleground state.”

After Trump’s surprise win in the state in 2016, Biden flipped Pennsylvania in 2020 — and, in so doing, won the White House — in part by running up his vote totals in heavily Democratic Pittsburgh, the state’s second-largest city and the county seat of Allegheny County.

Biden assiduously courted the area’s blue-collar labor unions, kicking off his 2020 presidential campaign at a Teamsters hall in Pittsburgh by declaring, “I am a union man.”

Trump, who is counting on strong turnout from his base of white, working-class voters, is not conceding the area. The counties around Pittsburgh have shifted from Democrat to Republican in recent presidential contests, delivering for Trump in both of his earlier runs.

Trump has also embraced protectionist trade policies and insists he is pro-worker. His vow to increase U.S. energy production and “drill, baby, drill” has resonated in southwestern Pennsylvania blue-collar counties like Washington, where a natural gas drilling boom has helped make Pennsylvania the nation’s No. 2 producer after Texas . Harris once wanted to ban fracking, an oil and gas extraction process, before recently disavowing her earlier position — a reversal Trump has hammered her for.

Dana Brown, director of Chatham University's Pennsylvania Center for Women & Politics, said in an interview that Harris will use the bus trip to spin up local media coverage as well as reach out to voters in the state's southwestern region “while she still has a great deal of momentum at her back."

Bus tours have become a staple of political campaigns partly because of the free media coverage they generate. Such trips get the candidates out of their power suits and out of Washington so they can travel the country and score face time with voters in small venues like diners and mom-and-pop shops.

The low-key venues of Harris' campaign on Sunday will be replaced with their polar opposite Monday when the Democratic National Convention opens , offering a prime-time showcase of the Democratic ticket that director Steven Spielberg is helping to choreograph.

Price reported from New York. Associated Press writers Michael Rubinkam in northeastern Pennsylvania and Linley Sanders in Washington contributed to this report.
