The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald

The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald is a children's direct-to-video series of six 40-minute animated features produced by Klasky Csupo in association with the McDonald's Corporation from October 9, 1998 to January 30, 2003, centering on McDonald's corporate mascot Ronald McDonald and his friends in McDonaldland . This includes all the McDonald's characters.

Overview [ ]

Although the series is "free-standing", ongoing artistic influences can be inferred from the way certain characters were drawn for animation similar to the animation from fellow Klasky Csupo series Rugrats ,  Aaahh!!! Real Monsters ,  The Wild Thornberrys  and  Rocket Power . For example, the character  Birdie  shares certain aspects of grooming and costume with Eliza Thornberry and Lil DeVille while her pigtails are reminiscent of Angelica Pickles (albeit dark brown rather than blonde) and the rendition and bearing of the Hamburglar, reminiscent of Darwin and of Chuckie Finster, may have been an influence on the design of Otto Rocket. Grimace, however has no change, but his personality is similar to Chuckie Finster. Elements of early K-C "house style" are also very evident on other supporting characters like Sundae the dog and the Chicken McNuggets. Iam Hungry appeared in one part of the episode "Visitors from Outer Space". Also, Mayor McCheese made an appearance in the final two episodes.

A new character named Franklin was also introduced in the first episode "Scared Silly" as the son of Dr. Quizzical (a scientist who was the inventor of Hamburglar's "Quizzical Bear Call" that was seen earlier in that one episode). Tika was also included as a human sidekick to Ronald McDonald in the first and fourth episodes. In "Scared Silly" and "The Monster O' McDonaldland Loch" Ronald is seen driving a sarcastic anthropomorphic car called the McSplorer.

Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh, best known for composing the music of  Rugrats  (another Klasky Csupo series), composed the music of the series. John Holmquist, who has directed some  Rugrats  episodes, directed all six episodes of the series. The artistic style of the series has a similar look to  Rugrats  and Rocket Power . Interestingly, the background music was recycled from later episodes of  Rugrats .

All episodes begin and end with a live-action sequence (similar to The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! ).

By various accounts, the titles turned out to be rather popular, and individual McDonald's locations frequently ran out of tapes which were sold individually for $3.49 and could be bought with a small vanilla ice cream cone or a small Diet Coke. Klasky Csupo therefore agreed to carry them for direct sale at their online gift shop which closed in the fall of 2005.

Preceding the series was a 30-minute animated special from Hi-Tops Video titled  The Adventures of Ronald McDonald: McTreasure Island , released on February 7, 1990 on VHS. The animation was not in the Klasky Csupo style but rather in the style of the costumed live action characters and other company artwork. DiC Entertainment animated the special that year, which featured an appearance by older McDonald's character Captain Crook .

In 1999, a Happy Meal was released at the restaurant chain featuring Lego vehicles for children to build. The front of each vehicle had an image of one of the McDonaldland characters in the Klasky Csupo style as depicted in the series.

Wacky Video Tapes

5 of the 6 episodes of the series. The sixth and final episode was rare and never sold at McDonald's restaurants.

Scared Silly [ ]

The first episode Scared Silly was released on October 9, 1998. In this episode, Ronald and his friends go on a camping trip in the Far-Flung Forest where Ronald discovers an old house which he assumes is haunted by a ghost called the Far-Flung Phantom. The campers are forced to stay in the old house due to the stormy weather where a holographic head named Franklin leads them through a challenging game which will eventually help them to escape. Tika, Hamburglar, and Birdie fail each riddle leaving only Ronald, Grimace, and Sundae to solve the final one, which they do. The holographic head turns out to be a child named Franklin programming the game with help from Tika (who wanted to give Ronald a challenge) and the McNuggets in a lab room. After Ronald gets a "You Win" out of Franklin, the scientist Dr. Quizzical returns to catch his son Franklin in the act and releases the others from their traps. Upon the group officially meeting Dr. Quizzical, he stated that he had to leave the lecture when he saw lightning on the mountain and that Franklin has done something like this before. Franklin apologizes to Ronald for his actions and is allowed to join their camping trip.

Ronald and Sundae go down the inner tube slide. This is the only episode to feature the Fry Kids.

The Legend of Grimace Island [ ]

The second episode The Legend of Grimace Island was released on January 22, 1999. In this episode, Ronald and the gang go out on a journey to Grimace Island where Grimace's species are discovered. Grimace previously received a letter which was actually written by the pirate captain One-Eyed Sally and her first mate Blather. The two pirates follow them to capture the treasure on the island.

Ronald and Sundae go down the ball pit slide. Tika was absent in this episode. The Fry Kids are no longer included in the video series.

The Visitors From Outer Space [ ]

The third episode The Visitors From Outer Space was released on April 23, 1999. Originally advertised under the title "Ronald McDonald and the Visitors from Outer Space" when the trailer was shown on its predecessor's VHS release the title was then abbreviated to "The Visitors from Outer Space" when the volume was released. In this episode, Hamburglar tricks the gang to believe that aliens have come to Earth so he can steal the McDonaldland hamburgers. The gang loses their trust in him which was followed by the Hamburglar being captured by actual aliens. Ronald and his friends go on a mission to rescue him even though they were angry at his pranks.

Tika and Franklin were absent in this episode. Ronald and Sundae go down the ball pit slide for the last time, as this is the last episode to have the original introduction and closing. It is also the last episode where Sundae appears in the live-action segments. Prior to this episode, there was a Rugrats episode with the same title.

Birthday World [ ]

The fourth episode Birthday World was released on March 30, 2001. In this episode, It is Ronald's birthday and Hamburglar is upset that he didn't get Ronald a birthday present until an evil scientist named Professor Thaddeus J. Pinchworm gives him tickets to a fake amusement park called Birthday World. They no longer fall for the rides' poor designs and construction until they ride a rollercoaster which turns them into babies.

Tika returns in this episode. This episode marks the final appearance of Tika. A new opening sequence was made for this episode and the next two. As a result, Sundae no longer appears in the live-action segments and isn't be seen going down the ball pit slide.

Have Time, Will Travel [ ]

The fifth episode Have Time, Will Travel was released on October 19, 2001. In this episode, Ronald and his pals stumble across a time machine while helping Franklin clean up his father's lab. Hamburglar dreams up a crazy scheme to use the time machine to get out of cleaning and they end up getting lost in time. Their time travel adventures take them to prehistoric times where the time machine is nearly digested by a Tyrannosaurus and they meet their cavemen ancestors, medieval times where they impress the crabby Monarch/King Murray with a musical number to save captured Birdie, the wild wild west where they discover Hamburglar's ancestor Henry H. Burglar II who the residents mistake Hamburglar for him and the disco era of the '70s where they briefly encounter Mayor McCheese. All three of the McNuggets are absent in this episode.

This episode marks the final appearance of Franklin. This is the only episode to feature Mayor McCheese and time travel. This is also the only episode where all three of the McNuggets are absent in a episode.

The Monster O' McDonaldland Loch [ ]

The sixth and final episode The Monster O' McDonaldland Loch was released exclusively on the Klasky Csupo site on January 30, 2003, making it the rarest of all six episodes. In this episode, the gang travels to a Scottish expedition known as Ol’ McDonaldland Loch where Sundae's cousin Scotty lives. They also come across a plot by a mad scientist named Stiles and his assistant Pip attempt to build a replica of the Loch Ness Monster in order to make money from the discovery. Birdie befriends the Loch Ness Monster named Simon who wants his existence to be kept a secret.

It is also Christine Cavanaugh's final acting role as it was released approximately 1 1/2 years after her retirement and eleven years before her death from pneumonia in 2014.

The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald Ranked

This is the one episode I’ve never ever seen before, so it was something of a religious experience. It’s really stupid, but in a really good way. It makes sense that they pretty quickly axed the show after this one, because it has totally stopped giving a fuck. The songs are lame, but the humor is dank as hell and the plot is fucking insane. This actually feels like two mini-episodes tied together with a time machine plot, and every segment is a delight in its own unique way.

Firstly, the gang meet cavemen doppelgängers of themselves, and it’s the fucking dankest moment in the entire series. “Rumfald McDumfald” is a god-tier caveman…

This one was better than Birthday World, maybe just because time travel has always been a more fun concept to me. I also never owned the VHS of this one as a kid, I don't know if any of the McDonald's near me were participating in this promotion at this point, making it harder to find at the time.

In this one, the gang helps Franklin clean up his father's lab, and end up fucking around in prehistoric, medieval, American old west times, as well as the 70s because Hamburglar wanted to disco?

For a very long time, this was the last one in the series, as the Monster O' McDonaldland Loch was pretty much lost media forever. I do remember seeing the promo for it at the end of this one and always wondering if it would be any good.

How Mayor McCheese Helps Explain a Plausible Theory of Time Travel

By nick greene | aug 31, 2016.

McDonaldland. Filming In McDonaldland's Facebook page.

McDonaldland , the setting of McDonald’s marketing efforts throughout the 1970s and ‘80s, was a magical place populated by talking cheeseburgers, fry goblins, and whatever Grimace was supposed to be. While it may seem like the stuff of delirious fantasy, McDonaldland stayed grounded in one regard: time travel. In fact, if you want to better understand a specific theoretical aspect of time travel endorsed by Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking, look to McDonaldland—specifically, Mayor McCheese.

Between 1971 and 1985, Mayor McCheese served as the mayor of McDonaldland. While McCheese was a integral part of McDonaldland in its early years, he was slowly phased out and didn’t appear again in any official capacity for McDonald’s (save a single Sears advertisement ) until 1999. Because he is a politician, there naturally was a scandal involved.

have time will travel ronald mcdonald

In 1970, ad agency Needham Harper & Steers approached Sid and Marty Krofft, the creators of H.R. Pufnstuf , about using characters from the hit children’s show for a campaign they were pitching to McDonald’s. Before any progress could be made, the agency told the Kroffts that the campaign had been canceled. However, the next year, McDonald’s aired the first of their McDonaldland commercials, and the Kroffts believed that the feel and design were directly plagiarized from the world they had created for H.R. Pufnstuf . They sued the McDonald’s Corporation, and much of their case revolved around Mayor McCheese’s similarities to Pufnstuf .

The case went to trial in 1973, and lawyers for McDonald’s argued Mayor McCheese was sufficiently different from the Kroffts’ creation:

"'Pufnstuf' wears what can only be described as a yellow and green dragon suit with a blue cummerbund from which hangs a medal which says 'mayor'. 'McCheese' wears a version of pink formal dress—'tails'—with knicker trousers. He has a typical diplomat's sash on which is written 'mayor', the 'M' consisting of the McDonald's trademark of an 'M' made of golden arches."

Neither the jury nor an appeals court bought this defense, and the case was settled in 1977 with the McDonald’s Corporation ordered to pay damages to the Kroffts. McDonaldland had become extremely popular by then, but it was around the time of this legal headache that McDonald’s started to move away from the campaign. One of the first casualties was Mayor McCheese, who stopped getting speaking roles in ads and was seen less and less until 1985, when he appeared in his final commercial for the fast food company (it also starred Mary Lou Retton).

Mayor McCheese appears in the McDonaldland universe only once more, and his presence is thanks to a time machine (and theoretical physics).

In 1998, McDonald’s commissioned Klasky Csupo, the production company behind popular shows like Rugrats and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters , to make a series of direct-to-video cartoons based around a rebranded Ronald McDonald (he was skinnier and had sideburns). Six episodes of The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald were released on VHS. In the penultimate episode, “Have Time, Will Travel,” Ronald and company discover a time machine. It is through this time machine that we finally reunite with Mayor McCheese:

“This was part of McDonaldland … in the ‘70s,” Ronald says as he steps out of the time machine and into a disco where Mayor McCheese is partying.

“Well I’ll be a burger in bellbottoms,” Mayor McCheese says. “I just learned the latest dance craze: The Hustle!” McCheese then performs a rather accurate version of The Hustle for 15 full seconds.

Now, if you are familiar with Stephen Hawking’s work on space-time and how it relates to humanity’s potential to engage in time travel, you will know that this encounter with Mayor McCheese recalls a major paradox: “If sometime in the future we learn to travel in time,” Hawking writes , “why hasn't someone come back from the future to tell us how to do it?”

According to Hawking, there are plausible explanations for this:

“A possible way to reconcile time travel, with the fact that we don't seem to have had any visitors from the future, would be to say that it can occur only in the future. In this view, one would say space-time in our past was fixed, because we have observed it, and seen that it is not warped enough, to allow travel into the past.”

Carl Sagan made a similar argument during an interview with NOVA in the 1990s: “Maybe backward time travel is possible, but only up to the moment that time travel is invented. We haven't invented it yet, so they can't come to us. They can come to as far back as whatever it would be, say A.D. 2300, but not further back in time.”

So, time travel may indeed be possible, but you can’t go back any further than the point at which the time machine was first invented. This kind of thinking would make Ronald McDonald and Mayor McCheese’s disco reunion impossible unless the time machine had already been invented by the 1970s. Well, it just so happens that McDonaldland did have a time machine, and they had it at the precise moment for this scenario to be plausible.

In the 1975 McDonaldland commercial “ Time Machine ,” Ronald, McCheese, and Grimace encounter a time machine. The year is important here. When they go back to the ‘70s in The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald , Mayor McCheese says he “just” learned a new dance, "The Hustle." And when did Van McCoy release his smash hit single “The Hustle”? You guessed it: 1975 .

Mayor McCheese’s return is only made possible because McDonaldland adheres to the strict laws of time travel. It's the reason two pieces of McDonald’s marketing ephemera made nearly a quarter-century apart and by different creative teams could remain so in sync. It also could be why McDonald’s wasn’t sued again, for this was the same Mayor McCheese from 1975, two years before the lawsuit with the Kroffts was settled.

Science is so elegant when it's simple like this.

  • All-Loving Hero : Per usual, Ronald is extremely personable and almost never gets mad at anyone even if he had good reason to.
  • Baby Morph Episode : He is turned into a toddler in "Birthday World".
  • Birthday Episode : "Birthday World" takes place on his birthday and has the plot start from Professor Pinchworm taking advantage of Hamburglar's guilt at not getting Ronald a present.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break : In "Birthday World", he has to put up with Professor Pinchworm de-aging him and his friends as part of his plan for world domination on his birthday.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall : Every episode ends with him telling the audience he hopes to see them live and in person at McDonald's, with the last three videos having him speaking to the audience through the entirety of the live-action segments.
  • Character as Himself : So as not to shatter the illusion for children convinced he's a real person, Ronald is credited as playing himself in all six videos.
  • Clown Species : Judging by being unaffected from water squirting in his face in Visitors from Outer Space and his de-aging into toddlerhood in Birthday World , he isn't wearing makeup and has always had a clown-like appearance since he was born.
  • "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune : Starting with "Birthday World", the theme song is replaced by a new one that Ronald sings himself.
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones : The one person he openly shows animosity towards is Professor Pinchworm, who is noticeably the only antagonist in the series who makes Ronald visibly angry.
  • Fourth-Wall Observer : Live-action segments or not, Ronald is the only character to directly speak to the audience.
  • Identical Grandson : "Have Time, Will Travel" shows him to have a prehistoric ancestor named Rumfald McDumfald, who is essentially Ronald as a caveman.
  • Intergenerational Friendship : He is most likely an adult and his friends include two children named Tika and Franklin.
  • Magical Clown : He can make anything happen when the situation calls for it.
  • Man in a Kilt : The first part of the live-action framing device in The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch shows him wearing a kilt.
  • Non-Ironic Clown : As with any non-subversive depiction of a clown, Ronald is a nice and friendly guy.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business : The normally mellow and cheerful Ronald becomes noticeably angrier in "Birthday World" when he and his friends are restrained at the titular theme park and Professor Pinchworm reveals himself while gloating about what he has planned for the gang. It really stands out since he maintained his composure when facing Franklin, One-Eyed Sally and Stiles.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper : Near the end of "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch", he reveals to Birdie that he already knows she encountered the titular monster and that the monster implored her to keep the knowledge of his existence to herself. Ronald: I know how to keep a secret, too.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_sundae.jpg

  • Adapted Out : In spite of Intergalactical Magical Radio being an Audio Adaptation of the Wacky Adventures videos, Sundae isn't mentioned or acknowledged in it at all.
  • Baby Morph Episode : He becomes a puppy in "Birthday World".
  • Calling Your Bathroom Breaks : He says something to the effect of needing to use the bathroom twice in "Birthday World" after Ronald and the gang have become toddlers. The first time is when he states he needs to find a fire hydrant while everyone is panicking at the realization that Professor Pinchworm is coming their way, the second time being when he complains about being surrounded by bushes while Ronald and friends are hiding in a hedge maze before he grins mischievously at what he just said and states that he needs to be excused for a second.
  • Canon Foreigner : He did not originate from the McDonaldland ads and was created for the Wacky Adventures videos, though storyboard sketches depicting him exist, suggesting that it was at least considered to use him in the official McDonaldland ads.
  • Deadpan Snarker : Almost every other line from him is a sarcastic remark about the other characters' quirks.
  • Dogs Hate Squirrels : He tries to chase a squirrel in "Scared Silly", only to be intimidated by a much larger squirrel in camouflage pants.
  • Dogs Love Fire Hydrants : When the gang panic over Pinchworm coming for them after they've been de-aged in "Birthday World", Puppy Sundae states that he needs to find a fire hydrant.
  • Edible Theme Naming : He's a dog whose name is a kind of ice cream.
  • Everyone Has Standards : Grumpy and sarcastic he may be, but even he's annoyed by the McSplorer's attitude.
  • Identical Grandson : When the gang time-travel to prehistoric times in "Have Time, Will Travel", a tusked version of Sundae appears among the group's prehistoric ancestors.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold : Tendency for sardonic comments aside, Sundae isn't a complete grouch and he does value Ronald and the others as friends.
  • Mailman vs. Dog : It is mentioned in "Birthday World" and "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch" that Sundae has apparently been known to chase mailmen.
  • Same Language Dub : Dee Bradley Baker still voices Sundae in the live-action segments, simply dubbing over Verne Troyer.
  • Talking Animal : He's a dog who can speak.
  • Uncatty Resemblance : He's Ronald's dog and bears some resemblance to him due to having red hair, a yellowish body and even a white mouth with red lips.
  • The Voice : The live-action Sundae was dropped for the later three videos, but "Birthday World" and "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch" both have Sundae being heard speaking from offscreen at the end of the live-action segment.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_grimace.jpg

  • Absurd Phobia : According to his video call in the live-action portion of Scared Silly , he's afraid of baby ducks .
  • Baby Morph Episode : He becomes a toddler in "Birthday World".
  • Big Eater : He states that he desires a bevy of Ronald's birthday cake at the end of "Birthday World" and also requests to stop for food in "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch".
  • Body Pocket : Even though he rarely wears clothes of any kind, he is shown to have pockets on his being in "Birthday World" when he rummages through his stuff to provide Ronald with the pepper he asked for.
  • Fat Idiot : He's rather pudgy and far from being the brightest of Ronald's friends.
  • I Want My Mommy! : The last musical number of "Birthday World" has a de-aged Grimace plead that he wants his mommy's lap as his contribution to the gang's "trap" rhymes.
  • Identical Grandson : A caveman version of him is encountered when the gang travel to prehistoric times in "Have Time, Will Travel".
  • Kindhearted Simpleton : He's a very friendly imbecile.
  • Lovable Coward : He's consistently shown to scare easily, but he's so endearing and amiable that it's hard to dislike him for it.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_hamburglar.jpg

  • Abandoned Catchphrase : With the exception of the Intergalactical Magical Radio audio play, this version of Hamburglar never says "robble robble".
  • Big Eater : He's willing to eat a whole bunch of burgers in one sitting, if his sack full of burgers at his side while fishing in "The Legend of Grimace Island" and stealing every burger in McDonaldland at the start of "Visitors from Outer Space" are any indication.
  • Blatant Burglar : The most overtly criminal-looking parts of his wardrobe would be his goggle-like eyewear and black-and-white striped shirt.
  • Deadpan Snarker : Not as much as Sundae, but he is also prone to making sarcastic comments about stuff. Birdie: You know, I believe in that sea monster. Hamburglar: And I believe you're a patty short of a Big Mac.
  • Embarrassing Old Photo : Birdie implies at the end of the live-action portion of The Legend of Grimace Island that he has a home movie depicting him running naked through the sprinklers.
  • Goofy Print Underwear : It is shown in "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch" that his underwear has burgers printed on it.
  • Identical Grandson : He is the only character to have an identical ancestor from two different time periods shown in "Have Time, Will Travel". In addition to having a caveman ancestor when the gang visit the prehistoric era, the conflict they deal with in the Wild West is an angry mob mistaking Hamburglar for his great-great-grandfather Henry H. Burglar II, who happens to look like Hamburglar with a mustache.
  • "I Want" Song : The Visitors from Outer Space gives him a song where he pleads for Ronald McDonald to save him from the alien family.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold : As much as he likes to play pranks on the rest of the gang, he's not completely rotten.
  • Man in a Kilt : At one point in The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch , he tears his pants, resulting in him wearing a kilt for the rest of the video.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy : He wears a blue jacket to Birdie's pink jumpsuit.
  • The Prankster : He likes to play tricks on the others, especially in "Scared Silly" and "Visitors from Outer Space".
  • Trademark Favorite Food : Like in the original McDonaldland ads, Hamburglar likes burgers and is actually shown eating some on occasion. In fact, "Visitors from Outer Space" has the ending portion of the live-action framing device feature Ronald stating that Hamburglar going on a no-hamburger diet is a gigantic fib when he and Sundae are discussing the differences between teasing and fibbing.
  • Unmanly Secret : "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch" has Birdie inadvertently reveal to the others that he sleeps with a teddy bear, much to his chagrin.
  • Vague Age : It's difficult to tell if he's supposed to be a child or an adult. Supporting the possibility of being a kid is how he's around Tika, Franklin and Org's height, but the evidence supporting that he may be an adult is that he isn't shown living under adult supervision, plus he and the rest of the McDonaldland gang were de-aged into toddlers in Birthday World (presumably because they're around the same age) while Tika and Franklin, who are clearly children, became younger babies who could barely speak as fluently.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds : He has this kind of relationship with Birdie. They bicker and tease one another a lot, but are still friends.
  • You Don't Look Like You : His character design has the most drastic artistic liberties taken, looking more like a distant relative of Chuckie Finster than how he is normally depicted and only being recognizable due to retaining his iconic hat and at least having a shirt in black and white stripes.

Birdie the Early Bird

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_birdie.jpg

  • Adaptational Badass : Unlike her counterpart in the advertisements, this Birdie takes karate lessons and is shown to be able to beat the rest of her class and her teacher with ease. In addition, she isn't shown to have trouble landing after she's flown.
  • Adaptational Wealth : While it isn't brought up at all in the subsequent videos, "Scared Silly" and "The Legend of Grimace Island" give hints that this version of Birdie comes from a wealthy background, such as the former having her mention that she's been to luxurious hotels and the latter having her bring crates of her possessions on the boat trip to Grimace Island, including a collection of expensive French perfumes. The Birdie of the standard McDonaldland commercials was never indicated to be particularly affluent.
  • Baby Morph Episode : She becomes a toddler in "Birthday World", with her case particularly imperiling her when the gang try to escape Pinchworm because she's regressed to an age before she learned to fly.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret : The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch revolves around her inability to keep a secret and habit of blabbing about embarrassing secrets the rest of the gang told her in confidence.
  • Girlish Pigtails : Birdie still wears pigtails, though styled differently compared to her incarnation in commercials.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak : Birdie is implied to be a socialite, is self-conscious about her looks, and wears a pink jumpsuit. She also takes karate lessons, effortlessly beating all her classmates and even her teacher.
  • Going Commando : A brief glimpse underneath her skirt when the gang hide inside a barrel during their trip to the Wild West in "Have Time, Will Travel" shows that Birdie's period-appropriate apparel for this particular era doesn't include underwear. It's not clear if her lack of underwear was only for her Wild West outfit or if she normally goes without, given that she usually wears a pink jumpsuit (and it would therefore be impossible to tell if she wears anything underneath) and most of the time periods the gang visit (i.e. prehistoric times, the medieval era and the aforementioned Wild West) were periods where it wasn't that common for women to wear underwear.
  • I Am Big Boned : When the royal chef in "Have Time, Will Travel" says that she's good and plump, Birdie objects that he's only pointing at her problem area.
  • Identical Grandson : Like the rest of the gang when they visit prehistoric times in "Have Time, Will Travel", Birdie encounters a troglodyte version of herself.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy : She wears a pink jumpsuit to Hamburglar's blue jacket.
  • Pink Is Feminine : Birdie has a girly personality, and wears her trademark pink jumpsuit.
  • Socialite : The first two videos imply that Birdie lives a lavish lifestyle, as "Scared Silly" has her mention that her travel time is usually spent at five-star hotels and "The Legend of Grimace Island" shows her bringing a collection of expensive perfumes on the boat trip to Grimace Island. This isn't brought up in the later videos.
  • Vague Age : Similar to Hamburglar, it's hard to determine Birdie's age in this continuity. The evidence in favor of her being a child is that she's even shorter than how she is depicted in the standard McDonaldland advertisements and is seen in Visitors from Outer Space attending a karate class where the other students are children (assuming this isn't a similar case to Johnny Bravo being the sole adult student at a class that usually teaches youngsters). Supporting that she may be an adult are how there is no indication that she lives under adult supervision and Birthday World having her de-age into toddlerhood like the rest of the McDonaldland gang while Tika and Franklin become slightly younger babies (suggesting that Ronald, Hamburglar, Grimace, Sundae, Birdie and the McNuggets are intended to be around the same age).
  • Vitriolic Best Buds : She and Hamburglar spend a lot of time getting into squabbles and teasing one another, but are still friends.
  • You Won't Like How I Taste : When she is in danger of being baked into a pie during the gang's stop in medieval times in "Have Time, Will Travel", Birdie tries to talk the royal chef out of cooking her by claiming that she isn't going to be very tasty because she's salinized, gamy and rather chewy.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_fry_kids.jpg

  • Ambiguously Related : It's not clear whether they're family or just look similar and like to hang together.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome : Their sole appearance is in Scared Silly , with none of the subsequent five episodes featuring so much as a mention of them and the obscure Intergalactical Magical Radio audio play being the only related media to acknowledge them afterwards.
  • The Smurfette Principle : There is only one female among the three.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics : The one Fry Girl has her gender indicated by her ponytail, bow and eyelashes.
  • Waddling Head : They're just heads on feet.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_mcnuggets.jpg

  • Adaptation Species Change : Of a sort. They are clearly the Wacky Adventures equivalent to the McNugget Buddies, but are anthropomorphic chicken nuggets with limbs and features like those of live chickens such as beaks and wings instead of their only features being eyes and mouths. In addition, they are a bit larger than actual McNuggets.
  • Ambiguously Related : Like the Fry Kids, it's ambiguous whether the McNuggets are related or it's just a coincidence that they look similar to one another and are always seen as a group.
  • Adapted Out : They are not mentioned or acknowledged in Intergalactical Magical Radio at all in spite of the audio play being based on the Wacky Adventures videos.
  • Baby Morph Episode : They become toddlers in "Birthday World".
  • The Dividual : Their voices and the colors of their wings, combs and boots are essentially the only ways to tell them apart.
  • Lazy Bum : Two of them cheat at hiking by convincing Grimace to let them ride in his backpack.
  • Out of Focus : They do not appear in "Have Time, Will Travel" and are never the central focus of the videos that they do appear in.
  • The Smurfette Principle : Like the Fry Kids, the McNuggets only have one female member (in this case, it's the one whose comb, wings and boots are red).
  • Spanner in the Works : They unintentionally thwart Stiles' plan in "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch" when their meddling results in the robotic monster Stiles invented being unleashed upon McDonaldland Loch before Stiles intended and providing the real monster Simon with a threat he can vanquish to earn the denizens' trust.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_mcsplorer.jpg

  • Back for the Finale : He vanishes after making his debut in the first video "Scared Silly", but returns in the final video "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch".
  • Canon Foreigner : While Ronald having a sentient car wasn't unprecedented, none of them were like the McSplorer.
  • Deadpan Snarker : He grumbles a lot about having to carry everyone and drive through terrain he finds undesirable.
  • Expy : His design is blatantly influenced by Benny the Cab from Who Framed Roger Rabbit .
  • Jerkass : He's so cantankerous that he makes Sundae look like Ronald, to the point that Ronald has to bargain with him to get him to agree to function as a boat in "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch".
  • Sentient Vehicle : He's a talking car.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_iam_hungry.jpg

  • Batman Can Breathe in Space : For some reason, he doesn't need a spacesuit when he shows up in outer space to help out Ronald.
  • Big Eater : He shows up in The Visitors from Outer Space after being summoned by Ronald whistling to lick off all the dessert toppings covering the gang's rocket ship and doesn't stop until the spacecraft is spotless.
  • Just Whistle : Ronald manages to summon his assistance while in outer space just by whistling.
  • One-Shot Character : Only appears in "Visitors from Outer Space".
  • Pokémon Speak : He is only shown saying his own name.
  • Revolting Rescue : After he finishes licking the dessert toppings off the gang's spaceship, Birdie notes that she is grateful he helped them out but is disgusted by how he did so.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_tika.jpg

  • Adapted Out : She and Franklin are replaced with a different group of kids in Intergalactical Magical Radio .
  • Baby Morph Episode : She is turned into a baby during the events of "Birthday World".
  • Canon Foreigner : She was created for the Wacky Adventures videos.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome : She is never seen or heard from again after Birthday World .
  • Free-Range Children : Her unseen parents are evidently okay with her going about unattended.
  • No Full Name Given : Her surname is unknown.
  • Parental Abandonment : Neither of her parents are seen.
  • Token Minority : She is the only African-American character in the cast.

Franklin Quizzical

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_franklin.jpg

  • Adapted Out : He and Tika are replaced by a different group of kids in Intergalactical Magical Radio .
  • Baby Morph Episode : He is turned into a baby during the events of "Birthday World".
  • Canon Foreigner : As with Tika, Franklin did not exist in any prior McDonald's media and was created for the Wacky Adventures videos.
  • Cast as a Mask : He is voiced by Alex D. Linz ordinarily, but by Patrick Pinney when speaking through his holographic Phantom Head disguise in Scared Silly .
  • Child Prodigy : He is stated to be very smart for his age.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome : He is nowhere to be seen in the final video The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch .
  • Defeat Means Friendship : After his haunted house challenge is solved and he is made by his father to apologize for the trouble he caused, Franklin is shown to be on better terms with the rest of the gang for the remainder of his appearances.
  • First-Name Basis : His surname is known from being the son of Dr. Quizzical, but he is only ever addressed by his given name.
  • Free-Range Children : Most of his appearances have him interact with the McDonaldland gang and join them on their adventures with his father nowhere in sight (or at least not showing up until after the adventure is over).
  • Identical Grandson : His prehistoric ancestor is encountered along with Ronald, Sundae, Hamburglar, Grimace and Birdie's in "Have Time, Will Travel", looking exactly like Franklin but clad in pelts and bareheaded in addition to having messier hair and a more prominent brow.
  • Missing Mom : We see his father, but it isn't known where his mother is or if she's still around.

Dr. Quizzical

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_quizzical.jpg

  • Canon Foreigner : He was created for the Wacky Adventures videos.
  • First-Name Ultimatum : He sternly exclaims his son's name when Franklin tries to weasel out of apologizing for his actions in "Scared Silly".
  • Strong Family Resemblance : Take away the glasses, shave his mustache and give him a baseball cap and he'll look just like his son.
  • Unnamed Parent : His forename is unknown.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_bear.jpg

  • Bears Are Bad News : It's clear that he had nothing but ill intentions for Ronald and friends.
  • Brick Joke : Ronald defeats him by luring him into a magically summoned door. He later reappears when Grimace opens one of the doors in the haunted house, just standing there scowling and tapping his foot.

One-Eyed Sally

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_one_eyed_sally.jpg

  • Abnormal Ammo : Her main weapon is a cannon that fires fish.
  • Dark Action Girl : The only female antagonist of the Wacky Adventures series.
  • Eyepatch of Power : She wears an eyepatch, though it turns out that the eye underneath is okay.
  • Mean Boss : She has no qualms with abusing her lackey Blather, though most of it is from frustration at putting up with his incompetence.
  • No Song for the Wicked : She is the main villain in "The Legend of Grimace Island", but does not get a Villain Song .
  • Non-Indicative Name : In spite of her name, both her eyes function and she apparently only wears an eyepatch for show.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute : With the absence of Captain Crook, One-Eyed Sally is the only evil pirate character making trouble for the McDonaldland Gang.
  • Tickle Torture : Her favorite method of tormenting people is by tickling them.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_blather.jpg

  • Number Two for Brains : He's the one who takes orders from One-Eyed Sally and, per his boss' own words, he isn't very good at thinking.
  • Seadog Peg Leg : In a similar case to One-Eyed Sally's eyepatch, he wears a peg leg in spite of not needing one.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_king_gunga.jpg

  • Adipose Rex : He's king of Grimace Island and, like all Grimaces, is very chubby.
  • Defrosting Ice King : He starts out distrustful of the McDonaldland gang, but in the end helps them against One-Eyed Sally and Blather in addition to accepting them as friends.

Alien Family

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_aliens.jpg

  • Aliens Speaking English : They already know and speak the English language in spite of being extraterrestrials who haven't been on Earth before.
  • Bratty Half-Pint : Org really likes playing pranks and annoying his parents.
  • Casting Gag : Org interacts the most with Hamburglar, with his voice actor Carl W. Wolfe voicing Hamburglar occasionally in McDonald's ads that were produced at the time.
  • Everyone Has Standards : While a troublemaker, Org takes offense to Sundae making a remark about his parents' weight.
  • Gigantic Adults, Tiny Babies : Org is no bigger than someone of Hamburglar, Tika or Franklin's height while his parents are outright giants.
  • Not Me This Time : When Org's dad accuses him of launching their dinner into space when it was Hamburglar, Org protests that he didn't do it.
  • The Prankster : Like Hamburglar, Org likes nothing more than to play tricks on people.
  • Unnamed Parent : We do not know the actual names of Org's parents.
  • We Are as Mayflies : It's implied that their race can live far longer than humans do, if the revelation of their vacation lasting 3,000 years is any indication.

Professor Thaddeus J. Pinchworm

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_pinchworm.jpg

  • Alliterative Name : His title and surname at least start with the same letter.
  • Bald of Evil : He's a balding villain.
  • Card-Carrying Villain : He's so open about being the bad guy that he has to cut himself off when he nearly introduces himself to Hamburglar as an evil scientist. Notably, he dispenses with his poor attempts at hiding his intentions and openly gloats about his plan to conquer the world by turning everyone else into infants after he's successfully turned Ronald and friends into toddlers.
  • Evil Laugh : He's prone to cackling maniacally.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard : Birthday World not only ends with him being turned into a toddler by his own device, but also chased by his own robot dog.
  • Mad Scientist : He's a deranged scientist who invented a ray that turns people into toddlers solely so he can use it to take over the world.
  • Mysterious Middle Initial : It is never stated what the J stands for.
  • No Song for the Wicked : He doesn't get a Villain Song in spite of being the main antagonist of "Birthday World" and the videos being a musical series.
  • Psychopathic Manchild : His habits of gloating about his plans for world domination and taunting the McDonaldland gang already do little to make him appear mature and stable, but his tantrum over being defeated (assuming it's not a side effect of being turned into a toddler himself) especially stands out.
  • Take Over the World : His goal is to become ruler of the world. Why it's necessary for him to do so by turning everyone else on the planet into babies is a question only he knows the answer to.
  • Uncertain Doom : The last we see of him is being chased by his robot dog Cogster after he has been turned into a toddler, leaving it unclear whether Pinchworm managed to evade Cogster's clutches unscathed or met a gruesome end.
  • You're Insane! : The McNuggets outright tell him that he's mad for scheming to take over the world by turning everyone else into babies.

King Murray

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_king_murray.jpg

  • Bratty Half-Pint : He's evidently a child and is as demanding and entitled as a ruler his age is expected to be.
  • Disproportionate Retribution : He has Ronald and friends sent to the dungeon just for accidentally exposing his underwear and causing everyone else in the room to laugh at him.
  • Enfant Terrible : With his petulant attitude and willingness to send those who upset him to the dungeon, it's clear he's not a good boy at all.
  • Karma Houdini : He doesn't face any punishment for sending Ronald and friends to the dungeon, since they prioritized getting out of the dungeon and time-warping away the moment they made their way back to the time machine.
  • Royal Brat : He's both king and a spoiled brat who gets angry when he isn't adequately entertained.
  • Uncool Undies : When Grimace accidentally rips off his robes, he is revealed to be wearing a pair of tighty whities. Everyone in the room laughs at him, prompting his head knight to scold everyone for laughing at the King's "royal tighty whities," implying that the King's "uncool" underwear choice is why everyone is laughing at him and suggesting that everyone wouldn't be laughing as much if he was wearing a different, "cooler" type of underwear.

Mayor McCheese

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_mccheese.jpg

  • The Cameo : A statue of him appears in the final video The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch .
  • Expy : Like his incarnation in the commercials, his voice is an impression of Ed Wynn .
  • Non-Human Head : He has a cheeseburger for a head.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_scotty.jpg

  • Last Episode, New Character : He makes his debut in the final video The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch .
  • Talking Animal : Like his cousin Sundae, he's a dog who can speak.

Simon the Monster

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_simon.jpg

  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs : In response to Birdie stating she determined Simon is the Monster O'McDonaldland Loch because she figured he's too small to be a whale and too big to be a guppy, Simon asks if Birdie would believe he was a wuppy.
  • Last Episode, New Character : He is introduced in the final video The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch .
  • Stock Ness Monster : He's a blatant pastiche of the legendary Loch Ness Monster.

Stiles and Pip

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wacky_adventures_stiles_and_pip.jpg

  • Card-Carrying Villain : Except for when he's in front of Scotty and the McDonaldland gang, Stiles doesn't even try to claim he's anything but a low-down, crafty felon, to the point that he demands Pip not bug him when he's laughing maniacally or planning his future villainy.
  • Evil Laugh : Stiles likes to laugh maniacally.
  • Fat Idiot : Pip is a rather dumpy man and is equally as stupid.
  • Idiotic Partner Confession : Stiles tries to weasel out of punishment by pinning everything on Pip, but Pip is so flattered by his boss giving him all the credit that he makes it clear to the police that Stiles did most of the work, resulting in both of them getting arrested.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey : Once their monstrous creation goes haywire, they spend most of their screen time running in terror from their own creation or getting into some other mishap, until they're finally arrested in the end. Given that they started the whole mess, they deserved every second of it.
  • No Song for the Wicked : Even though the videos have always featured musical numbers and Stiles is the main villain of "The Monster O'McDonaldland Loch", he does not have a Villain Song at all.
  • Number Two for Brains : Pip is dumb as mud, much to Stiles' frustration.
