💡  EXPERT TIP: Before booking your Everest Base Camp helicopter tour , read the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section for the tour(s) you’re considering, to ensure you pick the best one for your needs and interests.

How to Choose the Best Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour for You?

Now, this is a difficult question – how to choose the best Everest Base Camp helicopter tour for you!? First of all, you’ll want to go with a reputable provider to ensure your experience is smooth sailing. Luckily, Get Your Guide and Viator (who I use, and recommend) are both fantastic platforms and they only work with highly regarded tour operators, so you know you’re in good hands.

Here are a few things to think about when booking an EBC helicopter landing tour:

  • 🚁 What to expect – as well as a landing at Everest Base Camp, some tours offer other landings, so you’ll get a more rounded experience. Not only that, but I’d recommend going for a tour that includes more flight time so make sure you check this in the terms and conditions.
  • 🚁 The cost – these tours are expensive, but if you opt for a small-group tour, they become much more affordable. You’ll still get a window seat too! Of course, if you’d prefer a private experience, then you can expect to pay and get a premium tour!
  • 🚁 Additional extras – some tours include breakfast at the famous Everest View Hotel which is a fantastic experience, while others will require you to pay extra. Better yet, some tours even include a stay at this incredible hotel, but this will be at a higher cost.
  • 🚁 The weather – it’s important to note that these helicopter tours on the Everest Base Camp require good weather, and Nepal is notorious for its unpredictable climate. If the tour is canceled due to the weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund. So this is another reason why it is so important to buy your tour through a reliable tour company.
  • 🚁 Allow extra days – going off the previous point, most tours recommend that you stay in Kathmandu for a couple of days. This way, if your tour is canceled due to the weather, you’ve got time to reschedule it.

🚁Is an Everest helicopter tour worth it?

What our clients say, ebc helicopter tour.

I was travelling to Nepal for work. It was a 10-day visit to Nepal, and I absolutely loved the people and the nature there. All of my clients were talking about going on a trek to Everest. I, however, did not have enough time for trekking, so we all decided to do the EBC helicopter tour together.

One of my clients said that he had heard a lot of good reviews of NTA. So in hopes of finding a good travel agency, we started roaming around Thamel. We found NTA’s office and directly had a conversation with Binod. We liked their services and their package for the EBC Heli Tour, so we decided to book it with them.

The overall tour went amazing and really made me realize that I was so stuck with my corporate life that I forgot to cherish the little things that life offers. This heli tour to EBC made me realize that, and I am super grateful for that. Thanks a lot, NTA and team.

Heli tour to EBC

My birthday wish to celebrate it in the Himalayas finally came true. For my 50th birthday, I decided to celebrate by doing a heli tour to EBC. So after searching online, I decided to book this tour with Binod and his team.

I mean, turning 50 meant celebrating big! What better way than with a helicopter tour to Everest Base Camp? NTA made it unforgettable. The views were like an IMAX movie on steroids—glaciers sparkling, prayer flags dancing, and Everest a magnificent sentinel.

Landing at HEV and sharing cake and champagne with fellow adventurers made it even sweeter. Thanks, NTA, for a birthday that soared above the clouds.

The best time to get to Everest Base Camp without a guide is during the two famous trekking seasons in Nepal; Pre-monsoon which starts from late February and lasts till the end of May and post-monsoon which starts late September and lasts till the early December .

Although the best time depends on the purpose of your trip. Flights are affected during the monsoon season. Continuous rain for a few days will make taking off or landing difficult. Even if you get lucky with the flights, there is a high chance of not getting good views of the mountains. The clouds, that may appear any time during the monsoon period, will block your view. The trip will therefore not be fruitful.

The above listed time – pre-monsoon and post-monsoon – is a favorable time to visit the Khumbu region. There will be a lot of tourists and good weather during this time. The services will also be in the best quality to accommodate incoming tourists. The weather will not be as cold as any other time of the year.

While visiting this place without a guide, make sure to pre-book your trip and get confirmation beforehand because you might not get to go to the base camp due to increased tourists. The prices might rise a little during this season compared to other months because of the demand there. Among the two mentioned time, pre-monsoon is better suited for people who want to enjoy nature’s beauty, clearer skies, and better mountain views.

Best Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tours

Mount Everest is the world’s tallest mountain, and it’s on the bucket list of millions of people. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to climb Mount Everest, it’s extremely expensive. It’s also extremely difficult and dangerous.

A safer, more affordable and arguably better (view-wise) experience is a helicopter tour. So here are the 5 best Everest Base Camp helicopter tours.

1. Landing Everest Base Camp by Helicopter Day Tour from Katmandu

A picture of the Himalayas taken during some of these Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tours.

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (300+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 4 hours | 🧍 GROUP SIZE: Max 5-6 | 🏔 BOOK NOW

The highest-rated and most popular tour is Landing Everest Base Camp by Helicopter Day Tour from Katmandu which has an impressive ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating after over 300 reviews!

Review which says "This was the best trip of our lives, as close to heaven one can be, literally and metaphorically. The views were breathtaking. The captain was skilled. I was a bit scared because of potential altitude sickness but it was fine. Highly highly recommend it. Totally worth the money. We could see Mt Everest, Kumbhu Falls, Lotse, Namche, Amadablum, Tabuche and more. It was spectacular. "

When booking a tour, I always like to go with the tried and tested option. Especially in something as special as a helicopter tour of Everest Base Camp.

Landing Everest Base Camp by Helicopter Day Tour from Katmandu is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and can be described as nothing short of absolutely phenomenal.

The day tour departs from Katmandu and then proceeds to soar across the Himalayas to Everest Base Camp giving absolutely spectacular views in all directions.

Starting off very early in the morning at 6.15 am, this tour option offers pickup and dropoffs from hotels in Katmandu. If you don’t need to use this service, you can meet at Katmandu domestic airport.

Flying by Eurocopter 350 B3 Model – a very luxurious helicopter choice – this tour allows you to travel above the highest point on Earth in style. And don’t worry…every passenger is guaranteed a window seat to ensure stunning views and photo opportunities.

First, the flight will head to Lukla Airport at 4200m above sea level where the helicopter will drop some fuel. This is the airport where all of the fearless trekkers land in before they begin their journey to Everest Base Camp. The views here are incredible , and they only get better and better!

Next up, the copter will land at Kalapather which is 5400m up. Here, photographs and videos will be taken so you can have a memorable souvenir of your trip. It would be crazy to have such a mesmerising experience without something to remember it by.

Shangboche, Everest View Hotel, the next landing sees an optional breakfast. The stop here lasts one hour, allowing some time to relax and take in the unique atmosphere at the highest point in the world. I wish I could find words to describe it.

That’s exactly how an Everest base camp helicopter tour feels: indescribable .

Note that this tour operator (like many others) requires you to work with a few different available dates in your calendar. This is because the helicopter can only fly in optimum conditions so make sure not to cram your itinerary too tight!

All in all, you can’t go wrong with booking Landing Everest Base Camp by Helicopter Day Tour from Katmandu . There’s a reason it’s got so many positive reviews!

2. Landing Everest base camp by Helicopter

A picture of the Himalayas.

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (30+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 4 hours | 🧍 GROUP SIZE: Max 5 | 🏔 BOOK NOW

And the Landing Everest base camp by Helicopter excursion is another great option. Also very highly rated with 5/5 on average after more than 30 reviews!

Review which says "Awesome, memorable trip Phenomenal views The places we landed at were spectacular and definitely had the feeling of being ‘on top of the world’."

By flying straight to base camp, you’ll take in marvellous views of the icy and rocky mountains as well as the small authentic villages which line the flanks of the mountain. Going on Landing Everest base camp by Helicopter tour is a great opportunity to take in the scenery – particularly for those who would not be able to climb Everest for themselves.

When visiting Nepal, no one should have to miss out on seeing the infamous Everest. And there’s no better way than this.

Early pickup from your hotel ensures that your group makes the most of the day. This tour from the sky can take up to 5 passengers at a time and will not fly if all the spaces are not filled – so make sure to bring all your friends!

The small group size means that you’ll have your tour guide’s undivided attention and can get all of your burning questions answered.

This luxurious flight will showcase the amazing Khumba region and highlight the beauty of the naturally made ice structures that many brave trekkers tackle. Much nicer from a comfy seat of safety in a helicopter, right?

Landing Everest base camp by Helicopter has a 10-minute stop at Kala Patthur for a stunning view of Mt Everest itself.

The perfect chance to take some spectacular pictures. It’s then followed by breakfast at Hotel Everest View. Similarly to the above tour, the helicopter will then make a pitstop at Lukla for refuelling.

This helicopter ride option is great – with some lovely reviews from people all across the world showing just how great it is. It is certainly guaranteed to be a life-changing experience and one that you shouldn’t miss out on if you’re passing through Nepal.

3. Everest base camp Landing Helicopter Tour

A picture of Everest.

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (15+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 4 hours | 🧍 GROUP SIZE: Max 15 | 🏔 BOOK NOW

Everest base camp Landing Helicopter Tour is yet another fabulous option for exploring the Everest region from the skies above. This half-day excursion from Kathmandu tours Everest or Kalapathar and gives an in-depth guide into the geology of the areas along the way.

Review which says "The helicopter tour was terrific. The flights to Lukla and then to Pheriche and then to the Everest View Hotel were great. The amount of time to take pictures at Kala Patthar was good and the breakfast at the hotel was really nice. It certainly helped that we had a nice, clear day in November. There were just five of us in the helicopter. Great."

The guide onboard will ensure to give you great commentary as you fly – all about the formation of the regions and the history of the people and landscape. Nothing beats a tour where you are learning things while seeing the world!

This tour option is particularly great for travellers with a very tight schedule while in Nepal as it offers direct pickup and drop-offs to hotels in central Kathmandu. It takes all the hassle and stress away from getting to and from the airport.

The only downside is that again, there is a very early morning start. Trust me though, you won’t care once you catch that first glimpse of Everest! All of these Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tours provide the time of your life.

As with the above tours, Everest base camp Landing Helicopter Tour makes stops at Hotel Everest for breakfast. This opportunity is a great one to grasp – having breakfast at the highest hotel on Earth.

The company boasts of their great opportunities for photos from the sky and offers some beautiful views of the tallest mountain in the world and the reviews certainly support their claims.

Many travellers praise the amount of time that you are given at each stop to marvel at the beauty of the surroundings and take as many pictures as you want.

The review above is the perfect example.

For another well-respected and highly thought-of tour, take a look at the Everest base camp Landing Helicopter Tour .

4. Everest Base Camp: 3 Hour Helicopter Sightseeing Tour

A picture of Everest.

⭐ RATING: 4.8 out of 5 Stars (10+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours | 🧍 GROUP SIZE: Max 5 | 🏔 BOOK NOW

Without sounding like DJ Khalid , this is another great option for Everest Base Camp helicopter tours. Everest Base Camp: 3 Hour Helicopter Sightseeing Tour has some amazing reviews and is favoured for ensuring that each passenger is guaranteed a window seat while flying to Everest Base Camp.

everest base camp helicopter tours

The helicopter goes over the Tengboche, Dingboche, Gorakshep and Khumbu glaciers to reach the Everest Base Camp and there is a landing time of 5 minutes at the camp. There are only so many people who are fortunate enough to say they have stepped foot on Everest. Imagine being one of those people!

At 5644m altitude, the camp gives some unbelievable views of Mount Everest , Nuptse, Changtse and Lhotse. Breakfast at the Everest View Hotel is a key selling point for this tour and previous visitors were in love with the magnificent views of the mountain while fine dining. Food with a view is a combo of dreams.

If you are in a wheelchair, this is definitely the tour for you. It’s the only tour that states that it would accept wheelchair users. As a full-time traveller and blogger, I do a lot of research on experiences all around the world and I know how hard it is sometimes to find tours which are accessible for wheelchair users, so it’s good to find a tour that accommodates.

Note that it does however state that you would have to book a private flight meaning you would need to fill all 5 spaces with your party alone or pay the price of all 5 seats. It’s slightly unfair, but if you’re a big enough party, you’re guaranteed to have the time of your life!

For a tour that offers great experiences and memories, including wheelchair users, take a look at the Everest Base Camp: 3 Hour Helicopter Sightseeing Tour .

5. Everest Scenic ( Mountain) Flight with Hotel Pickup/Drop

A picture of Everest.

⭐ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 Stars (100+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours | 🧍 GROUP SIZE: Max 5-6 | 🏔 BOOK NOW

Last but by no means least of these Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tours is slightly different. Everest Scenic ( Mountain) Flight with Hotel Pickup/Drop makes use of a plane rather than a helicopter. But don’t worry, it’s actually a good thing. It offers equally spectacular views at just a fraction of the price.

Review which says "Everyone had a window seat, crew were friendly and pointed out each mountain, views were beautiful! Early pick up from hotel but worth it."

It is by far the cheapest experience on this list but it is still a very high-quality one. It’s the perfect option if you are backpacking Kathmandu .

Taking off from Tribhuvan Airport, you’ll jet past many snow-capped mountain peaks and get awesome views. You’ll get to witness the majestic views of Mt. Everest including Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kantega and Lhotse before returning back to the airport.

Everest Scenic ( Mountain) Flight with Hotel Pickup/Drop also provides a celebratory glass of sparkling wine on their flights – a great addition which will make the flight that extra touch more luxurious. Who doesn’t love a glass of wine, especially thousands of metres high in the sky?

It’s also perfect for those that would feel a bit uneasy about flying in a helicopter but still want to gain an unforgettable experience. And trust me, seeing Mount Everest from the sky is an unforgettable experience.

So for a unique experience flying in a plane through the Himalayas, take a look at the Everest Scenic ( Mountain) Flight with Hotel Pickup/Drop .

Mount everest helicopter day tour- nepal 2020 lifetime experience 2020 nepal lifetime experiences #vny2020.

The Mount Everest Helicopter Day Tour with three (3) Landing on the last base camp from the Summit is probably one of the most exciting tour in the World. This tour in Nepal takes you from your hotel that rolls to Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu with a Helicopter, flying across the Himalayan range which presents you with the snow-capped mountain vistas around 5-7 hrs depending on the weather condition in which during our time Temperature is neg -27C with a very-very-very thin air at Mount Everest.

There upon you will be landing at Lukha for fueling, then you will fly and across Namche Bazar, Syngoche, Tengboche and Everest Base Camp .Its once in a lifetime opportunity that you admire the beauty of Mount Everest and our Helicopter landed again at Kalapattar, (after we had some coffee on the second base camp). Kalapattar (5545 / 18192ft) provides the best view fronting Mount Everest (8,848m or 29012 ft), Pumori(7,161m), Ama Dablam (6,812m), Lhotse (8,516m), Choyu (8,201m), Nuptse (7,861m)and thousands of snow capped peaks.

During our Highest Landing Only the Pilot and three of us Family my husband Danny, my Son CJ and me were allowed due to limited weight (max 220kg) due to the high altitude. We are only given less than 20 minutes to stay in the highest point coz its very very very hard to breath. Our Pilots use Oxygen during the entire flight. When we reach on the Base Camp again for landing and waiting for another Helicopter, breakfast were serve at Everest View Hotel while Warming ourselves with the Chimmey.

My heartfelt thanks to Everest Vacation Agency in Nepal the owner - Netra as an instrument in fulfilling our Dreams.

To our Tour Guide Dipak who is always with us from the very start until the end of our tour to the airport and for being very kind and hospitable assisting all our needs, tours, accommodation and everything. Words can't describe how grateful we are during the entire tour including Pokhara and Chitwan and to our co- tour guide as well. and to our Driver tyvm. https://www.facebook.com/emilyemil.carpio/media_se...

Primarily used for helicopters in Nepal are rescue purposes at higher altitude. So first priority for rescue. If the need arises and there is a call for rescue during Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, the helicopters would need to make a rescue trip. Depending upon the rescue sometimes the guest might have to wait for more than 1 hour. The guests can meanwhile soak in the glory of the majestic Himalayas from Lukla or Everest View Hotel.

Riding the helicopter from Kathmandu vs joining the ride from Lukla

You might wonder what are the distinct experiences we get by joining the helicopter from Kathmandu and Lukla. Starting the journey from Kathmandu enables a scenic flight that encompasses the gradual transition from the lowland areas to the towering peaks of the Himalayas. This route provides a diverse visual experience, showcasing terraced fields, the Kathmandu Valley, and the majestic mountains. However, it entails a longer flight duration and reduced acclimatization time as travelers are swiftly transported to higher altitudes, potentially increasing the risk of altitude-related issues.

In contrast, beginning the tour from Lukla provides immediate immersion into the breathtaking Himalayan landscape. The flight from Lukla is notably shorter, ensuring quicker access to the iconic peaks. Moreover, this route allows for a more gradual ascent, enabling travelers to acclimatize better to the high-altitude environment, which is crucial for a safe and enjoyable experience in the Everest region.

Although helicopter tours from Lukla are generally more cost-effective due to the reduced flight distance, availability can be limited during peak trekking seasons. The choice between the two starting points ultimately hinges on individual preferences, budget considerations, and the importance of acclimatization for each traveler.
