The Chainsmokers’ number one single Closer topped the Billboard charts for a number of weeks after its release. And even now, Closer is among the first songs to be played at every discotheque in town, be it the original version, or its different covers. The Chainsmokers duo is often referred to as the Nickleback of EDM. Nickleback, for the uninitiated, is a Canadian Rock band famous for makings tracks out of the simple trending topics of the day. Just like The Chainsmokers’ Selfie!

Chainsmokers’ India tour: Ranveer Singh to be part of a chat session with them?

chainsmokers india tour

The organisers are keen on getting Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh to be a part of The Chainsmokers’ India tour, next month.

Music lovers are looking forward to the upcoming concert of The Chainsmokers, an American DJ/production duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pal, in Mumbai and Delhi on September 7 and 8 respectively. And to ensure that the event is high on fun, glamour and energy, the organisers, Road To Ultra, have approached Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh to be a part of a candid session with the Grammy award-winning duo.

Ranveer Singh has been approached to be a part of The Chainsmokers’ upcoming concert in India.

“The discussion [between the organisers and Ranveer] has been underway for almost three months now. The Chainsmokers are also keen to explore India. There isn’t a better choice than youth icon Ranveer, who seems to be a perfect fit for this activity,” said a source close to the organisers.

Back in the USA just in time for our favorite holiday! Have fun and safe 4th y'all 🇺🇸 @danilolewis A post shared by The Chainsmokers (@thechainsmokers) on Jul 4, 2017 at 6:06pm PDT

However, though keen, it seems that Ranveer might not be able to make it to the concert, given his prior commitments. His official spokesperson said, “The organisers had approached Ranveer, but he is busy shooting. So, he couldn’t accommodate [the show].”

The idea was to organise a chat session between Chainsmokers and Ranveer on the drive at the Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida, much like the Coffee Run session that happened between Deadmau5, Canadian record producer, and Bollywood singer Daler Mehndi in 2014.

Meanwhile, ace fashion designer Neeta Lulla will be creating two traditional Indian outfits for Andrew and Alex. According to sources, the DJ duo is quite fashion conscious and they are in love with traditional Indian prints and motifs. Keeping this in mind, Neeta is working on two outfits that fuse traditional prints and modern cuts.

“The designs are fresh and modern, but it also has an Indian touch with earthy and tribal Warli art. The holographic background gives a psychedelic vibe that resonates with dance and music. A lot of electro pop colours have been used, since The Chainsmokers are performers and colours always help to stand out,” Neeta was quoted as saying.

9.02 pm: This Is All We Know plays, and the crowd goes crazy. Mouthing the lyrics with Andrew Taggart, the fans are clearly overjoyed. They follow it up with We Will Rock You, the famous rock anthem by Queen.

9.55 pm: Many Indian fans of The Chainsmokers had expected the DJ duo to play Yellow Vs Don't Let Me Down. And that's just what Taggart and Pall just did.

10.00 pm: "Delhi, we're The Chainsmokers, and you lot are amazing!," Pall announces as they round up. Unlike their show in Mumbai, there's no waving of the Indian flag. But there's definitely a lot of fireworks as The Chainsmokers get off the stage and bid the crowds goodbye. Published By: AtMigration Published On: Sep 8, 2017 --- ENDS ---

The Chainsmokers are a DJ duo from New York, New York, US consisting of the members Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. Their music encompasses the genres of electro house, progressive house, and EDM.

After Taggart had finished school at Syracuse University and Pall had finished his studies at New York University the two started to make music in the year 2012. The duo started out under the management of Adam Alpert, who is known for being the CEO of Disruptor Management, Disruptor Records, and Selector Songs.

The Chainsmokers began garnering a following for their interesting remixes of indie bands. Some of the artists that the band has remixed include Jonsi, Two Door Cinema Club, Phoenix, Icona Pop, and Neon Trees. In 2012 the group collaborated with one of Bollywood’s most famous actresses Priyanka Chopra and released the single “Erase”. The single consists of highly produced synthesizers, strong build-ups, and a poppy, in your face chorus. In 2013 they released the single “The Rookie”, which followed in a similar fashion to “Erase”. The single contained gritty synthesizer leads, pumping bass lines, and a strong rhythmic drum beat.

In 2014 Dim Mak Records released The Chainsmokers’ breakthrough song “#Selfie”. Dim Mak Records was founded by DJ Steve Aoki and has been known for breaking several groups into the mainstream. Weeks after the group released “#Selfie” they were asked to sign on to the major record label Republic Records. The group originated “#Selfie” due to trying to capitalize off the pop culture trend that was becoming increasingly prevalent. The song was also considered by the band to be a joke, but the song immediately created a huge fan base for the band. The song has many pop culture references and has drawn comparisons to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back”, Baauer’s “Harlem Shake”, and Frank Zappa’s “Valley Girl”. The single did significantly well on the charts and reached the No. 1 position on the US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. The video for the single also included cameos by Snoop Dogg and David Hasselhoff, which increased the popularity of the song.

In 2014 the group followed up “#Selfie” with the single “Kanye”, which features sirenXX. The song differs from the group’s previous releases, as it tends to be less aggressive in its presentation, although the song still contains strong build-ups and a highly catchy chorus. The song also seemed to be another ploy for the group to build off the pop culture of the time.

"But first let me take a ..." you already know the rest. And if you are like me then you're probably tired of hearing it. But whether you loved it or loathed it, The Chainsmokers' smash hit, Selfie, with the all-important # *hashtag* to boost, was, and still is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with after it was released earlier this year. Clocking up over 200 million YouTube views in just 6 months, you couldn't ignore it. The masterminds behind it? Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. Two New York City based DJ's and producers who remixed indie bands before signing to Steve Aoki's label Dim Mak and a major deal with Republic Records. Since finding fame they’ve DJ’d at festivals around the world. ULTRA, HARD and Tomorrowland to name just a few. Pounding bass, flashing strobes and big bass drops were the order of the day at The Chainsmokers set at Tomorrowland. Upon dropping the follow-up to ‘#SELFIE’, cleverly named after the biggest artist in the world, ‘Kanye’, revelers were on each other’s shoulders bouncing up and down to the euphoric sing-a-long, sure to be a hit, chorus. The unique thing about a Chainsmokers set is that unlike other more generic EDM stars, they don’t mind switching things up a little, by chucking in a few of their older remixes of indie bands like Daughter and Two Door Cinema Club for good measure. It’s EDM with a difference.

Pretty awful all round unfortunately. First of all, far too much of the audience was too old for an EDM concert, above ages of 50. I was stunned at many of them turning up, a couple of aged ladies just standing still throughout the whole concert. Having been a bit shocked at seeing so many elders, I was even more shocked at the fact no one looked like they were having a good time. After having been to sensational and animated concerts at Steve Aoki last month and Galantis last year which were full of moshing and having fun, only a group of people I found nearer the front wanted to really get into it and have fun. I did not expect for 99% of the crowd to stand still and have miserable faces for the entirety of the show. Lastly, I was disappointed by the performance of The Chainsmokers. The drum guy did not suit the concert well, and the pace in the concert changed too much and they seemed to be focussed on cracking jokes. If they really were DJs, they’d have their set and play music throughout. Very bad. The technical issues at the beginning did not help either. Waste of money.

Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, better known as the electro house duo The Chainsmokers have been working on their live show since 2012. However in 2014 they suddenly found themselves propelled up lineups and playing to larger and larger crowds thanks to the runaway success of their hit single '#Selfie'.

Making dance music reflecting social culture is not new for the boys, with the follow-up 'Kanye' being equally provocative. Despite not having a full length LP released to date, the band has plenty of material to keep the crowds dancing along to. They are known for having remixed music by some prolific indie names including Two Door Cinema Club, Daughter, Neon Trees and Bastille and the audience go wild for these alt-dance gems.

By the time they are ready to drop their infamous track, the whole crowd is completely surrendered to the energetic duo and leave them jumping as one to the heavy bass whilst chanting 'let me take a selfie'.

I always try to see the Chainsmokers live whenever I can. Like their previous concerts, their European tour 2018, was an incredible experience. Although the Chainsmokers are DJs, they deliver an all-encompassing performance with guitar playing, singing, piano playing, as well as the traditional DJing. They invite their audiences to get involved with what they are performing and interact with them often. In this last concert, the Chainsmokers previewed two new unreleased songs. They perform their own songs and others with mashups and remixes and this paired with the lighting effects, fire, confetti, sparklers and streamers etc. only build to an great overall experience. Drew and Alex (the Chainsmokers) are both charismatic guys and brilliant hosts. I would definitely recommend watching them live

Disappointed! Know what you are paying for. I have only followed them for the last year, so I know the songs you find on Spotify which I really like. I wasn't aware of their DJ background, so was disappointed when most of the concert was not them performing their songs, but doing what DJs do. Great mixes, and fantastic stage show, but I left disappointed. They have some great female vocals on some of their tracks, yet no female live vocals - only played recorded version. I paid to see live performances, not recordings.

Lot of people love them and their performance, and maybe if I was prepared to hear them DJ and play recorded vocals, I might have left feeling less disappointed.

this is definitely one of the best shows i've been to! Being both dj's and songwriters, they alternated between performing songs and epic djing. and each drop was so unique and creative, contrary to some djs today. I had a blast! Their energy was contagious and their skits and set design added so much to the show. It wasn't just playing music, it was putting on a show for their audience. Drew kept thanking us for being here and explaining how we were one of the best crowds on tour. I knew i was gonna have fun, but it surpassed my expectations. I will definitely be seeing them again! Plus, the opening acts and the pianist were great! and kudos to their drummer!

panicatthediscotech’s profile image

One of the best concerts i have ever been to. They have really stepped up their game with the effects, the instruments and of course the singing. Drew has gotten so much better. Everything about the concert was amazing. I recommend seeing a Chainsmokers concert to anyone with an interest for dance music and to people who just wants to have a good time. They give you an amazing vibe. Dont listen to a couple of their songs and judge them because even I can say that not all of their songs are good but when you see them live they really make up for it and they are getting better and better. You wont regret it.

From spending on imaginary drinks to being sweated on by shirtless men, my first concert is also probably my last

In which miserable moment did I decide to leave the comfort of my bed and Netflix I know not. But I now know better than to leave my headphones at home, only to suffer an evening of sticky air in an overcrowded ground with people too drunk to even care. I love music, but I may never spend a dime on concerts ever again. Let me get this straight- Chainsmokers were great. Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall took over the stage after Slushi and damn they were good! And not just because they don’t hurt the eyes but also because their music connects to a good part of the Indian audience. Concerts serve as a platform for bands to share music with an audience in person, give us a sense of involvement in an age of free downloads that render us strangers to the stars we idolise.

While I thought, I was the lone wolf in a sea of people who loved to jump around in tandem on EDM, a lot of people I know and spoke to once the euphoria died down were equally (if not more) disappointed at their experience. Our pattern of music consumption has changed so much. From memorising albums to barely memorising the lyrics of a few odd songs from a plethora of options available, our commitment to music has dwindled. We Instagram/Snapchat our way through a concert, with silly filters only to give our friends on the other end of the screen a temporary pang of jealousy. For me, I believe it is mostly because everything about concerts stands in opposition to why I turn to music in the first place. It is my happy place. I just need a warm corner and good music to make my day and I’d give up Netflix in a jiffy.

                                                                                              * * *

Enroute to the event, almost every nook and corner was swarming with people who were downing a drink or rolling up a joint. While I oppose neither, the simple fact that you need an additional kick or even liquid courage to enjoy music mars my opinion of the event even more. My headphones render me into a space so sensitive to my needs that even if only for a while, I blur out the world.

Road to Ultra brought me down to reality the minute I swam through the dense inebriated crowd, which broke down barriers and stole liquor bottles from under the counter or pinched my butt while I stood (very patiently for over an hour, but to no avail) for my drinks. The bar was shut by 7:30 (they were out of drinks apparently), yet somehow all the servers were drunk. One even had the audacity to take a swig from the glass of water that I was finally given after an hour of coaxing (all the while grinning at me sheepishly, asking me to not call him bhaiya). The card we were made to purchase to then procure drinks was a huge help . It got me the pleasure of standing in a queue and argue with a guy who waved an empty Absolut bottle in my face, telling me to put that card in my, well, pocket . The guys dispensing the cards were also a pain in the pocket, if I may. To know the money was non-refundable was I suppose not so much of a surprise anymore. To add insult to injury, what do we as Indians excel at when we don’t get a share of the pie? The crowd let itself loose on the bar counters, hurling abuses we are all well versed in. The bar finally vandalised, people went their way, maybe finally distracted by the headliners. The servers saw it coming before I did and immediately went packing. Splendid. The euphoria as thousands of people partake in the creation of music is amazing. I reiterate that Chainsmokers were great. But the concert left a bad taste because it evoked feelings opposite to what I usually feel while listening to my favourite tracks. Amidst all the pushing and pulling, pinching and cussing, I felt apart from all those with whom I shared my first concert.

Plus, if you are short like me, you were probably also just crushed between sweaty shoulders and even sweatier ribs of people, for God save you if the guy behind you has no shirt on.
