For 22 years we have been known as the best cruise tool for picking cabins on cruise ships. We keep track of over 258,007 staterooms and we have actual videos and/or pictures for 55,407 of them. Our site is loaded with features. Start by choosing one of the cruise lines in the section below to choose a cruise ship and explore deck plans and stateroom information.

Ocean Cruise Lines

Click on a cruise line below for ships, pictures and deck plans.

Why we are different:

True interactive deck plans.

You can find cruise ship deck plans all over the internet. But our deck plans are truly interactive. As you move your mouse over them you will see pictures, videos, floor plans, and stateroom category details. All the information you need in one place.

Unique Tools

Only on our website will you find a feature that allows you to drag one deck over another. Plus our cabin check tool makes it easy to see what is above and below your stateroom. Use our compare staterooms or even compare ship feature to easily see the differences in stateroom and ship features.

Photos and Videos

We use actual pictures and videos taken by every day cruisers to help show what the cabins and public areas look like. Plus we will pin pictures in the spot on the cruise ship deck plans near where the picture was taken.

How to pick a stateroom

So many choices. We provide a guide to how to get started finding the perfect stateroom.

We are one of the largest cruise ship deck plans websites in the world. We have over 243 ocean cruise ships in our database. For each ship we show the current cruise ship deck plan. We also show each cabin type (category) for that ship. Within each cabin type we provide detail diagrams (stateroom floor plans), pictures, videos, features, square footage and more. We also list the handicap cabins. We show actual ship exterior pictures and also pictures of places on the decks. We list all the main features for each ship including a listing of features NOT on that ship. This helps to make researching cruise ships so easy and so fun! We give you power at your finger tips to find the information you are looking for. It is all available from one page and usually just a click away. We hope you enjoy! The CRUISEDECKPLANS Team.

Decide what type of cabin you would like.

There are four main types (categories) of cabins: Inside cabins: These cabins are usually the lowest price. Typically they will have twin beds that convert to a queen size, a private bath with a shower, a closet for hanging clothes, a dresser and a television. These cabins do not have a window to let natural light in. To help give the occupants an impression of having a view, some inside cabins have a virtual view. That means there is a large screen that displays outside views. Expect to pay $100 to $200 a night for an inside cabin. Exception: Carnival has several cabins which are classified as inside cabins but actually have a french glass door which allows light into the room (no balcony, but the door can be opened). Carnival also has some cabins that have a window, but because the window has an obstructed view (that means there is a railing or object in the way) it is listed as an inside cabin. Royal Caribbean has some cabins that have a window but look out over an inside promenade area. These are called "promenade staterooms". Oceanview cabins: These cabins are like inside cabins but usually have a port hole or window. A window is much more desirable than a porthole because the porthole can be difficult to look through. Windows will vary in size and some cabins will even have full floor to ceiling windows. Most window sizes for oceanview cabins are about 4 feet by 3 feet. Be sure to read the cabin description carefully to determine if there is a different type of window. Windows can not be opened. Expect to pay $150 to $250 a night for an oceanview. Balcony cabins: These cabins are better, and more expensive, than oceanview cabins because they typically have full glass sliding doors that lead to a balcony. The balcony allows fresh air and light into the cabin and also may have additional chairs or loungers. Balconies tend to be separated by dividers which give some sense of privacy, but be aware that most balconies are not fully private and can be viewed from above or by the cabin next to you. Balconies on new Norwegian Cruise Line ships and Princess Cruise Line ships tend to be smaller and more narrow than balconies on other ships. We will list balcony size in the cabin description.  Carnival offers what is called a "Cove Balcony" on some of their ships. These balconies are very popular because they sit lower on the ship (closer to the water line). Expect to pay $200 to $400 a night for an balcony cabin. Suite: A suite is a premium cabin on a cruise ship. It is usually much larger than a balcony and includes more perks. Suites typically have a full bath tub, large shower, larger closets, larger balcony, larger TV, and butler services. Expect to pay $400 to over $1,000 a night for a suite.

Decide where you would like the cabin located.

Cabins are priced based on location on the ship. Typically cabins on lower decks are less expensive. Typically cabins midship (in the middle part of a deck) cost higher. Balcony and Suite cabins on the very aft of the ship can also be more expensive than other cabins. In order to set the pricing many cruise lines will divide each cabin type into sub categories. For example a balcony cabin may be divided into sub categories such as B1, B2, B3, B4. In most cases the cabin size and features in a sub category is the exactly the same. The only difference is usually the location of the cabin on the ship. Please look for the notes on the category descriptions to determine if there is a difference in size or features between the subcategories. Exception: Royal Caribbean and other cruise lines will also use sub categories to distinquish between how many occupants the cabin will sleep. Therefore a cabin that can sleep up to 4 people will be a different sub category from a cabin that sleeps only 2 people. You can also use our drag deck feature to determine if your cabin is in a good location. Cabins are best located when they are next to, above or below other cabins. As a rule of thumb avoid booking a cabin under a public area or kitchen. If you are looking for a balcony cabin, please be aware that on many ships the cabins that are below the pool deck may also be shaded by a roof overhang from the deck above. You can also use our drag deck feature to determine if there is a overhang. TIP: Many of the cruise ships are so large now and have so many floors that elevators are required to get to the public areas from your stateroom. But during peak times you could be waiting awhile to get on an elevator. If you pick a stateroom near the top or near the lower decks of the ship you may find a much better experience getting around. For example a stateroom on top of the ship gets you closer to the pool and buffet areas. A stateroom near the main public decks gets you closer to the lounges and bars. If you do need to take an elevator it is easier to find one that is empty if you are starting from the top or the bottom. You will also find the busiest elevators are the ones that go up to the buffet.

Service charge comparison

Many of the Cruise Lines charge a service fee on top of the cruise fare. Regardless of what the fee is used for, you will need to plan the following cost into the price of the cruise. The prices shown reflect the current service fee for a 7 day cruise for 2 people. (All prices subject to change)

Vintage photos show the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship in its heyday during the 1960s and 1970s

  • The Queen Elizabeth 2 was a luxury cruise liner launched in 1967.
  • When it completed its maiden voyage in 1969, the QE2 was a marvel of modern cruising and design.
  • The ship was retired in 2008 and later turned into a luxury hotel in Dubai.

Insider Today

Named for Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship is remembered as one of the most luxurious ships to ever sail the sea.

The ship was launched on September 20, 1967, by Queen Elizabeth herself, and it completed her maiden voyage the following year.

Here's a look back at what the Queen Elizabeth 2 looked like when it first launched and during its heyday during the 1960s and '70s.

The Queen Elizabeth 2 was a British ocean liner and cruise ship that set new standards in luxury travel.

a cruise ship picture

The Queen Elizabeth 2, or QE2, was launched on September 20, 1967. It cost £30 million, or $36.5 million, to build, according to Royal Museums Greenwich .

"There are no ships like it today, quite frankly," Andy Dinsdale, a former cruise director on the QE2, told Condé Nast Travel in 2021. "She was the fastest ship of her type in the world at that time. You look at the ships nowadays, they're all sky rises on ship bases. The QE2 was sleek, she was slim. She was made to cut through the ocean waves and she did it beautifully — fast and elegantly."

While flying was becoming an increasingly popular way to travel, cruising was still a way to cross the Atlantic for many people.

The ship was built by John Brown & Company of Clydebank, Scotland, for the Cunard Line.

It measured 963 feet long, which is 80 feet longer than the infamous Titanic that sailed in 1912. The QE2 weighed 65,863 tons and was fitted to carry 2,000 passengers.

The ship was named after Queen Elizabeth II, who attended its launch.

In the photo above, Queen Elizabeth II and John Rannie, the managing director of the Clydebank shipyard, can be seen attending the launch of the Queen Elizabeth 2.

Roughly 30,000 spectators attended the ceremony and a bottle of Australian wine was smashed against the ship's bow.

The ship completed her full maiden voyage in May 1969, after her maiden voyage in December 1968 was cut short due to turbine trouble.

For her maiden voyage, the QE2 sailed between Southampton, England, and New York. The voyage lasted about four days.

Designed by Dennis Lennon, the ship's interiors were perfectly in keeping with the funky, modern design styles of the 1960s.

The photo above shows the interior of the Queen's Room, a large reception and dining area, on the QE2 in 1969.

The room featured carpeting and modernist furnishings that epitomized style and luxury at the time, which appeared inspired by the aesthetic of the jet and space age, The RIBA Journal reported.

Cruise liners like the QE2 set a new standard for luxury travel.

a cruise ship picture

Above, passengers converse in the VIP lounge aboard the QE2 luxury liner in 1969.

The ship had a number of different dining rooms, which were seated according to which class ticket a passenger held, according to Condé Naste Travel. Afternoon tea took place each day with white-glove service, or guests could enjoy a cocktail at the piano bar.

The ship also offered guests the opportunity to attend classical music or jazz orchestra performances, take ballroom-dance classes, or attend lectures given by prominent filmmakers.

There were multiple restaurants on board the QE2, including the Britannia Restaurant, which is still on board the ship today, and the Columbia Restaurant.

a cruise ship picture

It was also typical for people to dress in suits, cocktail dresses, and gowns to eat dinner — something you rarely see on cruise ships today .

A photo of a recent menu that recreated the one served during the maiden voyage of the QE2 showed that guests dined on dishes like pan-seared scallops, fois gras parfait, halibut, and lamb.

Many celebrities sailed on the QE2 during the height of its fame.

a cruise ship picture

Actress Elizabeth Taylor and her husband Richard Burton sailed aboard the ship in 1970.

Audrey Hepburn, Carrie Fisher, Jane Seymour, and Meryl Streep are just a few other notable celebrities who have sailed on the QE2, according to Cunard.

By the 1970s, many of the modernist, space-age-inspired furnishings of '60s were replaced with simpler styles.

a cruise ship picture

In 1972, the QE2 was refitted for the first time, and many of the original interior-design elements were removed.

"In its original condition, which only lasted for three years, it was one of the great unsung masterpieces of the post-war era," Bruce Peter, a professor of design history at the Glasgow School of Art, told The RIBA Journal in 2018.

The cabins were still luxurious and spacious, but not as striking as they were when the ship first launched.

a cruise ship picture

In the photo above, an employee makes the bed of one of the ship's cabins in 1975.

In the early 1970s, some of the ship's lounge areas were turned into restaurants and a casino in order to be more lucrative for the ship's owners.

a cruise ship picture

As The RIBA Journal reported, "wear and tear" was another reason for the ship's redesign, thanks to years of cigarette smoke and the natural deterioration of the furnishings due to the thousands of passengers that sailed the ship during its first three years at sea.

In 1975, the QE2 set sail from Southampton on her first world cruise.

a cruise ship picture

The ship sailed 38,000 miles and visited 23 ports in 92 days. The QE2 would go on to complete 25 world cruises during her career.

While the ship looks drastically different than many modern, luxury cruise lines of today, it still gave its passengers plenty of space to lounge, relax, and soak up the sun.

a cruise ship picture

The photo above shows the original pool deck aboard the QE2. The original pool, where aqua aerobics classes once took place, is still there today.

In April 1982, the QE2 was briefly used as a troopship to carry members of the British military to the Falkland Islands during the war with Argentina.

a cruise ship picture

The ship sailed to South Georgia with 3,000 troops aboard, and it arrived back in Southampton in June 1982.

Throughout her life as an operating cruise liner, the QE2 traveled more than 6 million miles and carried more than 2.5 million passengers.

a cruise ship picture

The ship was officially retired and sold in 2008.

In 2018, after millions of dollars was spent refurbishing and restoring the ship to its former glory, the QE2 opened as a luxury hotel in Dubai.

The biggest cruise ships keep getting bigger and it's splitting the industry in 2

  • New cruise brands are launching smaller, luxury ships geared toward wealthy travelers.
  • They're a far cry from the 7,000-passenger mega-ships with water parks and concert venues.
  • Large cruises are a "cash cow" for operators but experts say smaller ships have distinct long-term advantages.

Insider Today

Every year it seems a new world's largest cruise ship is crowned.

Royal Caribbean's upcoming almost 10,000-person Icon of the Seas will be the next to claim this title. While it won't debut until 2024, it's already generated plenty of buzz. The cruise line saw its largest booking day ever when it opened reservations for the ship in October 2022, before construction was even completed. Since then, Royal Caribbean has repeatedly lauded it as the "best-selling product in its history."

But not everyone is a fan of the floating amusement park . When images of the Icon circulated online, social media users described the vessel with far less flattering terms (among them: "human lasagne," a "monstrosity," and "hell on water"), proving mega-ships aren't all travelers' cup of tea.

To fill this void, several new cruise lines are taking an underdog strategy of building smaller luxury vessels

Over the last few years, high-end resort brands like the Ritz-Carlton , Four Seasons , and Aman have announced plans to enter the cruise — or as they call it, the "yacht" — market. And it's safe to say they won't be participating in the mega-ship race: Aman says its vessel will have 50 cabins while Ritz-Carlton's second ship is set to sail in 2024 with just 224 suites.

Shipping giant MSC Group is also taking a similar downsized yet upscale approach with its new luxury cruise brand Explora Journeys with the 461-suite Explora 1 it launched in 2023. To compare, the largest MSC Cruises ship has 2,626 cabins.

This surge in small-ship brands has split the cruise industry's newest offerings into two distinct categories, with different target customers and business models.

"In general, smaller vessels are better for travels where you spend more time in the port cities and explore things outside the ship, whereas the mega ships are more geared towards having lots of entertainment within the ship," Per Stenius, a client director at Finnish consulting firm Reddal, which specializes in the maritime industry, told Insider.

Small cruises, or large "yachts," appeal to wealthy travelers

While giant ships are a short-term "cash cow" for operators, small cruise liners have advantages over their larger counterparts that give them a leg up in the long run, Stenius said, especially when it comes to attracting affluent travelers.

"The smaller ships are able to focus more on the itinerary," he told Insider, adding that cruises with more staff and fewer guests can also offer higher-end customer service.

Wealthy travelers who have never cruised before may also gravitate toward smaller ships for their first trip, especially if it's with a recognizable brand name like the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton.

New-to-cruise is an important demographic to win over: In order to keep up with projected capacity forecasts, the industry needs to convince 4 million people to take their first cruise by 2025 , according to Cruise Lines International Association, a trade organization that represents cruise lines.

Michael Ungerer, Explora Journeys' CEO, doesn't picture other vessels as his company's competition. Instead, he says Explora is contending with luxury resort hotels like the Belmonts, Amans, and Rosewoods.

"We think there is an opportunity to establish a luxury holiday brand, which is a boutique-style resort on the water," he said.

Smaller ships are better positioned to meet sustainability goals

Mega-ships may be popular among some passengers, but the ports they're visiting aren't always fans . Concerns of overcrowding and pollution have led cities across the US and Europe to place restrictions on cruise tourism and in some cases, enforce caps on the number of daily cruise visitors.

Port infrastructure poses a challenge to large ships, even in places without cruise bans. Several of the new mega-ships are too big to fit into some ports, requiring passengers to take smaller boats called tenders to shore. On ships that carry thousands of guests, this can be a logistical difficulty.

With worldwide port access no longer guaranteed, major cruise companies are snapping up private islands in the Bahamas to develop into exclusive resorts for visiting passengers.

"They have to compensate for the fact that they can't go into certain cities by creating their own entertainment centers to take these ships," Stenius said. "But of course that's not a game you can play forever."

Large ships also come with large carbon footprints . As the industry moves toward net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 (a target set by the International Maritime Organization), mega-ships will have a harder time meeting those requirements than smaller vessels, Stenius said.

Giant cruise ships have more opportunities for increased revenue but can ice out some travelers

Royal Caribbean didn't set out to intentionally build the next world's biggest cruise ship , Jay Schneider, Royal Caribbean's Chief Product Innovation Officer, told Insider in 2022. Instead, he says the company prioritized adding onboard experiences that go beyond the average " dinner and a show" cruise . But as its "wishlist" of amenities grew, so did its need for increased revenue. Meeting this demand then required adding more cabins, and subsequently, square footage for necessary spaces like dining rooms.

"As you go through the evolution of our strategy, you quickly grow into bigger ships," Schneider said. This approach has helped industry heavy hitters rake in even more cash: The more cruise lines add enticing pay-to-play amenities to their giant vessels, the more onboard revenue is generated.

"Mega ships tend to be more family-oriented with activities like water slides and bumper cars. But some tourists like a 'more quiet' vacation experience," Patrick Scholes, a leisure analyst at Truist Securities, told Insider in an email, noting that he thinks Royal Caribbean will continue to build giant ships following the Icon's success.

But as travelers' expectations and sustainability restrictions evolve at the same time, only time will tell if these little guys or the giant floating cities will win over travelers' wallets.
