Travel notification is not required. I received the following reply from an Apple Card specialist at Goldman Sachs:

"You don’t have to go through the trouble of telling us your travel plans. If we suspect unusual activity, you’ll receive a notification you can tap to let us know it's you. Your Apple Card can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted, and if you’d like to pay with Apple Pay, look for the contactless symbol. There are also no foreign transaction fees when using your Apple Card.

Seems to be better

I wrote a review years ago, I was disappointed the app, it kept logging me out and I was not being able to log in with my fingerprint on my iPhone and I gab to keep entering my user and password. That seems to be fixed or I wasn’t seeing how to do that. I am glad I can use my finger print now. Still not happy with banking industry in general by preying on and penalizing the poorest people, or anyone, with overdraft fees which are now $30 instead of $20. I wish there was an alternative to banking like this.

Much Improvement, Could Do More

This new app version is a much needed improvement from its previous version. However, I would love to see some UX/UI features fleshed out to make the app more appealing and easier to use. For example, with the Financial Wellness Savings Goals, we should be able to look at the transactions within each goal and withdraw/transfer directly from the goal itself, instead of transferring first and then manually moving money around in the goals. The app also has a few log in glitches that make it seem like the app doesn’t remember the device (ie. having to log in multiple times manually even after setting Face ID and Snapshot). Overall, great progress but still needs more!

Much needed improvement, but still some work to do

First of all, the November 2021 update for both the app and the website was much needed. Notifications for transfers and expenses are a great feature that I’ve enabled since the day this update rolled out. To the developers of this app, PLEASE read the reviews. There are legitimate complaints with this new update. Face ID is an issue for many users, and for all of us, our login details are not cached for beyond a week. I understand the need for security, but if a user has 2FA enabled, then there’s little need to reset the credentials so frequently. Please let users save their login details for this app. Good app overall, but patching these issues will make it a truly 5-star banking app.

Germany’s chancellor, state governors agree on new measures to curb migration

Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the governors of Germany’s 16 states agreed on new and stricter measures to curb the high number of migrants flowing into the country, reaching a compromise on an issue that has become a huge political problem for the government and a hot-button public topic .

The new measures include speeding up asylum procedures, benefit restrictions for asylum seekers and more financial aid from the federal government for the states and local communities dealing with the growing numbers of migrants .

Speaking early Tuesday after an overnight meeting that lasted several hours, Scholz, a Social Democrat who leads a center-left government, called the agreement “a historical moment” — a remark that showed how much of a burden the topic had become for the government.

The number of new asylum applications for the year to date was around 73% higher at the end of September than in the same period last year, official statistics show.

Shelters for migrants and refugees have been filling up in Germany for months, and Scholz, who faces enormous pressure from the opposition and elsewhere to halt that trend, has said that “too many are coming.”

Germany has also taken in more than 1 million Ukrainians since the start of Russia’s war on its neighbor.

Over recent weeks, there had been a flurry of government activity, including legislation to ease deportations of unsuccessful asylum seekers, stiffen punishment for smugglers, allow asylum seekers to start working sooner and introduce temporary checks on the Polish, Czech and Swiss borders.

The federal and state governments agreed Tuesday to change the system for financing the costs for the asylum seekers. Starting next year, the federal government will pay an annual lump sum of about $8,000 for each asylum seeker and no longer a total annual sum of around $4 billion.

Scholz called the reform a “transition to a breathing system” and said that “with rising numbers, there is more money; with falling numbers, there is less.”

Asylum seekers are also to receive at least part of their benefits as credit on a payment card, meaning they will get less cash in the future.

Some state governors had called for a new system of conducting asylum procedures outside of Germany to keep the migrants from arriving in the first place, but that measure didn’t pass. However, the federal government said it would examine whether asylum procedures outside the European Union are possible.

Several European countries, including Britain and Denmark, have been looking into processing asylum seekers remotely to keep them from entering their countries. On Monday, Italy reached a deal with Albania for the latter country to give such migrants temporary shelter while their asylum bids are being processed.

The controls that Germany established at its borders with Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria are to be extended, but the time period was not clear.

Opposition leader Friedrich Merz, from the center-right Christian Democratic Union, rejected Scholz’s contention that the migration deal was “historic.”

More than 250,000 people applied for asylum in Germany in the period from January to September, compared with more than 130,000 in the same time period last year.

The majority of asylum seekers came from Syria, Afghanistan and Turkey.

U.S. crude oil prices fall below $78 a barrel to their lowest since July

West Texas Intermediate fell $3.45, or 4.3%, settling at $77.37 a barrel, while Brent fell $3.57, or 4.2%, settling at $81.61, both their lowest prices since July.

The drop comes after China reported mixed economic data.

U.S. crude prices on Tuesday fell below $78 a barrel to hit the lowest point since July as weak global economic data overshadowed concerns that the Israel-Hamas war could erupt into a broader regional conflict.

Beijing's crude oil imports rose by volume and value in October, but the country's overall exports fell more than expected, indicating slowing global demand. 

The world's second-largest economy reported a 6.4% drop in exports in U.S. dollar terms for October compared to the same period a year ago, worse than the 3.3% drop predicted by a Reuters poll.

China's exports have fallen for six consecutive months now as a higher interest rates put downward pressure on the global economy. Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neel Kashkari lowered expectations Tuesday that the U.S. central bank might cut rates.

"We have to get inflation back down to 2% over a reasonable period of time. Ultimately, the economy will tell us how much is needed to get there, and I just don't know," Kashkari told Bloomberg Television.

The data out of China offset the effect of Saudi Arabia's and Russia's oil output cuts, which lifted oil prices earlier in the week. Riyadh and Moscow confirmed on Sunday that they would keep those cuts in place through at least the end of the year.

Oil prices had spiked in the week following Hamas' devastating terrorist attacks on Israel on concerns that the war could escalate into a broader regional conflict that disrupts oil supply.

Prices have fallen since mid-October as worries of the conflict spreading in the immediate term have eased.
