What channel is the Tour de France on?

You can watch the Tour de France on NBC , USA Network, and Peacock . You’ll get the most live coverage from Peacock, which streams every stage and the daily Tour de France Pre-Race Show . 2023 Tour de France schedule

This year’s Tour de France begins on July 1 in Spain before crossing into France on the third day. As usual, the 21-day route features a solid mix of flat to mountainous terrain. Two rest days break up the action before racers make their way to the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris on July 23.

2023 Tour de France Femmes schedule

Just as the men’s tour wraps up in Paris, the Tour de France Femmes takes off from Clermont-Ferrand. This is the second edition of the women’s race and features an eight-day route ending with an individual time trial in Pau.

The 110th Tour de France will stream on Peacock and air on NBC and USA Network throughout July 2023. Peacock offers the best way to watch Le Tour because it streams every stage from beginning to end. It also carries the entire women’s race, which begins the same day as the men’s competition ends.

If you’re a cycling fan without access to fast and reliable internet, most cable and satellite TV services have NBC and USA Network. Those channels don’t show as much Tour de France coverage as Peacock, but you’ll still see the most vital moments of the race.

This year's tour is once again being billed as a rematch between defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (on the Jumbo-Visma team) and two-time winner Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) as the great rivals go head-to-head for the third year in a row. 

Pogačar is battling back from a broken wrist sustained two months ago, while last year's Giro d'Italia champion Jai Hindley and Ineos Grenadiers star Egan Bernal will both be looking to wrestle away the iconic yellow jersey. 

Veteran British sprinter Mark Cavendish will be attempting to claim the record for most Tour stage wins, with the Astana Qazaqstan ace currently level with Belgian legend Eddy Merckx on 34.

The excitement is almost over, as the 2021 Tour de France live streams finish this Sunday, with Stage 21. That said, everything feels final for the overall winner seems obvious. Yesterday, Stage 18 saw Tadej Pogacar win and keep the yellow jersey, solidifying the fact that he's likely winning the whole thing.

Today, on the 207km route to Libourne, most eyes will be on a pair chasing at the points. Michael Matthews (from Australia, representing Team BikeExchange), is on the tail of Mark Cavendish (of Great Britain and Team Deceuninck-Quick Step).

Going into today, Cavendish had a 38-point advantage, and with 20 points on the line, Matthews could get closer to that green jersey. That said, Cavendish is one stage win away from breaking Eddy Merck's record, so we doubt he'll be giving anyone a chance.

The three-week race is now live, with 184 riders in 23 teams, pedaling through 21 stages, including three summit finishes and two individual time trials. The strongest all-around rider will emerge victorious at the end.

This year’s Tour de France is less ‘La Grande Boucle’ (The Big Loop) and more a giant belt around the country’s waist. Riding west to east the ‘Grand Depart’ took place outside France for the second year in a row across the border in the Basque Country in northern Spain. From here the race is headed west through the Pyrenees across legendary mountains such as the Col du Soudet and the mighty Col du Tourmalet before heading to the Massif Central and a return to the iconic Puy de Dome. Continuing west to The Jura mountains there is a summit finish on top of the Grand Colombier and then two days later another summit finish in the Alps at Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc. With just one time trial on the route: a 22km mainly uphill test on stage 16. This is without doubt a race for the climbers whose battles will finish in the forested peaks of The Vosges on the slopes of the evil Col du Platzerwasel.

As for the contenders, the two main protagonists, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vinegaard (Jumbo-Visma) are on paper so far ahead of anyone else that the rest appear to be just support actors.

Vinegaard’s dominant display at the recent Critérium du Dauphiné, where he won at a canter, suggests he is in the same sparkling form that saw him take last year’s race but the condition of his great rival Pogačar is not so certain.

The Slovenian he hasn’t raced since he crashed in Liège-Bastogne-Liège on April 23, breaking his wrist. Until that point pretty much all he had to do was to start a race to win it. His return of 12 victories from 19 starts is remarkable in the modern age but having not raced for so long will he be back at his very best?

The final stage of the Tour is half procession and half eyeballs out racing up and down the cobbles of the Champs Elysée. What starts with photo opportunities and glasses of champagne ends with the most highly prized sprint stage in front of the thousands that line the route. Hitting the famous boulevard the peloton as is tradition was all together but not for long as the irrepressible Tadej Pogacar decided to shake things up and go out on the attack. 

Could he defy the might of the peloton and take the unlikeliest of victories? Also no, and he wasn’t the last to try and audacious attack before everything came back to gather for a final mass gallop to the line. All eyes were on Jasper Phillipsen, this year’s sprint king but just as it looked like he had got it, across surged Jordi Meeus (Bora-Hansgrohe) to take his first ever stage win, and what a stage to do it on. 

Yellow jersey wearer Jonas Vingegaard crossed the line a few seconds later flanked by his whole team, his second victory in two years confirmed, which in the end was a very comfortable one and looks likely to be the foundation of a period of total dominance.

Lotto–Dstny

Once upon a time Lotto–Dstny could rely upon Victor Campenaerts to win from a solo break or Caleb Ewan to take a sprint stage but no longer. Although these scenarios are both still a possibility they will more likely be looking to younger members of their team to make it into a break and bring home a win for the Belgian team.

Gone are the days when Peter Sagan just had to turn up to take the green points jersey such was his dominance, but even the brightest stars fade and in his last Tour it’s unfortunate that he will be little more than a footnote. Unless, that is there is one final bit of magic left in those legs and oh how the cycling fans would love to see that.

Young stars Søren Wærenskjold and Torstein Træen will also be keen to show that the Norwegian team are here on merit and justify their selection.

In the recent Netflix Tour de France documentary series Jasper Philipsen was referred to as Alpecin–Deceuninck’s ‘Plan B’. This is no longer the case, he is well and truly ‘Plan A’ now, of course along with the ‘other Plan A’, the sensational Mathieu Van der Poel. A once in a generation rider who on his day can beat anyone at anything.

EF Education–EasyPost

EF Education–EasyPost have a team full of winners, each one capable of getting in a break and taking a stage it’s just deciding who will get the chance each day. I’m sure Rigoberto URÁN and Richard CARAPAZ have aspirations of a high finish in Paris but I suspect reality will bite when the manure hits the fan and they will get dropped like a hot stone.

Groupama–FDJ

This Tour is going to be Thibaut Pinot’s swan song, the darling of the French media came agonisingly close to winning the Tour but never delivered the victory the nation craves. He is on paper riding to support team leader David Gaudu but with a question mark the size of Paris hanging over the young French rider’s form maybe Pinot will be let off the leash for one last chance of glory before retirement.

Ineos Grenadiers

With uncertaintly over whether Egan Bernal will ever get back to his best after his near fatal crash in 2022 team Ineos turn up to the Tour not looking at the overall victory for probably the first time in 10 years. The priority will be hunting stages, unless that is the talented Tom Pidcock can get into the mix because we really do not yet know the limits of his abilities.

Intermarché–Circus–Wanty

All eyes are on their star rider Biniam GIRMAY to see if he can deliver the first African stage win. He has already proved himself a champion but will have his work cut out in sprints to beat the other feast men. WIth the backing of a whole continent though this could inspire him to make history in this year’s event.

Lidl - Trek 

The young Mattias Skjelmose could be in the hunt for the third step on the podium if he still has the form he shown at the Tour de Suisse this but it’s likely Lidl - Trek will find the most success hunting stages. Led by their former world champion Mads Pedersen they also have a very good hand of cards to play whether it be Skjelmose or Ciccone in the hight mountains or Pedersen, Simmons and Stuyven on tough lumpy stages.

Movistar Team

Movistar will be hoping Enric Mas is at his very best as he will need to be if he wants to try and challenge Pogacar and Vingegaard. He did show signs of very good form earlier in the year but has since gone off the boil a bit.

Soudal–Quick-Step

With Remco Evenepole rested, Soudal–Quick-Step don’t have a rider for the general classification so their main focus will be to deliver Fabio Jakobsen to the front on sprint days and hope the mercurial Julian Alaphilippe can re-find the form that once made him the most exciting rider on the planet.

Team Bahrain Victorious

With newly crowned British champion Fred Wright and the ever-aggressive Matej Mohoric leading their hunt for stages, and Jack Haig aiming to get in the mix for the overall, Bahrain Victorious have many cards to play.

Team Jumbo–Visma

Jumbo Visma have an embarrassment of riches, a team stacked with world class winners, all of whom are there with the sole aim of ensuring Jonas Vingegaard takes his second win after last year's success. Their main problem, like last year, will be keeping their talent in check and ensuring they play the team game and don’t go rogue.

RIDERS: Wilco KELDERMAN, Christophe LAPORTE, Tiesj BENOOT, Wout VAN AERT, Dylan VAN BAARLE, Nathan VAN HOOYDONCK, Sepp KUSS and Jonas VINGEGAARD. 

AG2R Citroën Team

AG2R will be throwing all their weight behind their star rider, the Australian Ben O’Connor. Fourth in the 2021 Tour de France and third in this year’s Criterium du Dauphine, he will fancy his chances of being in the mix for a very high placed finish.

Arkéa–Samsic

Arkéa–Samsic’s best hope of a successful Tour will be somehow getting a win from a breakaway with French favorite Warren Barguil their best hope of delivering this goal.

RIDERS: Laurent PICHON, Simon GUGLIELMI, Jenthe BIERMANS, Warren BARGUIL, Luca MOZZATO, Clément CHAMPOUSSIN, Anthony DELAPLACE and Matis LOUVEL.

Astana Qazaqstan Team

Alexey Luttsenko is Astana’s best hope for the overall classification but even the most optimistic fan won’t really believe he has a chance of victory. The main goal for the team, from a British perspective that is, is for Mark Cavendish to win his prized 35th stage.

RIDERS: Harold TEJADA, Gianni MOSCON, Alexey LUTSENKO, Yevgeniy FEDOROV, Mark CAVENDISH, Cees BOL, David DE LA CRUZ and Luis León SÁNCHEZ.

Bora–Hansgrohe

Jai Hindley, the 2022 Giro d’Italia winner should be well in the mix for a spot on the podium but he is still a way off the level needed to compete for the win. Stranger things have happened though so keep an eye on the young Aussie.

RIDERS: Marco HALLER, Patrick KONRAD, Bob JUNGELS, Jordi MEEUS , Emanuel BUCHMANN, Jai HINDLEY, Danny VAN POPPEL and Nils POLITT.

Much like Arkéa–Samsic, Cofids’ hopes lie in a win from a break with seasoned winners. Ion Izagirre, Guillaume Martin and Simon Geschke lead their charge. Also watch out for their sprinter Bryan Coquard who, on his day, if everything fell into place, could upset the bigger sprint names.

How to Watch the Tour de France

From cable TV to live streaming, here are your options for watching the 2022 Tour.

The 2022 Tour de France begins on Friday, July 1st with a 13.3km individual time trial through Copenhagen, Denmark. (Yes, Denmark!) So it’s time to start planning how you’re going to watch it.

Whether that means streaming from your phone, starting your morning with the previous day’s highlights, or inviting your friends over for a viewing party, the options for watching the Tour de France are plentiful.

For the Fanatics

In general, NBC offers the most accessible and affordable (and legal) options for American viewers to watch the Tour de France through its Peacock Premium streaming service for $4.99 a month. For ad-free coverage you’ll need a subscription to Peacock Premium Plus, which runs $9.99 a month. Eligible Comcast Xfinity X1 and Flex customers and Cox Contour customers may already access Peacock Premium for free.

You could cancel your subscription at the end of the Tour, but consider this: by subscribing to Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus you’ll also have access to the full men’s and women’s Tours as well as other races covered by NBC and its partners, including the 2022 Vuelta a España and next year’s editions of Paris-Nice and Paris-Roubaix.

The Peacock app is available on Roku, Apple devices, Android and AndroidTV devices, Google platforms, Chromecast, Xbox devices, Playstation 4 and 4 Pro, VIZIO SmartCast TVs, and LG Smart TVs. You can also watch online via the Peacock website.

If you have a good cable package and prefer conventional viewing on your television, you’re in luck: NBC will offer the race to cable subscribers via the USA Network and CNBC . Live coverage often starts around 7 a.m. ET, so 9-to-5ers will likely need to record each stage and watch later. (Check the full schedule for details.)

No Cable? No Problem.

If you don’t have cable and want more than what’s offered on the NBC app, a subscription to FuboTV costs $70 per month. Add the $12 per month cycling package you’ll have full access to NBC’s coverage of the race. Fubo’s also great for those who love cycling year round, as FuboTV has a full-time cycling channel covering the major Tours, the Classics, some World Championships, and even BMX racing. (It’s also available in Canada.) If you’ve been looking for a streaming service that offers most if not all of the channels you enjoy watching, it’s a solid option.

Riders to Watch

Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) has won the last two Tours and starts this year’s race as the overwhelming favorite. He can do it all: climb, descend, time trial–even the cobblestones of Belgium and Northern France have proven to be no match for the 23-year-old. Assuming he avoids crashes and bad luck during the Tour’s dangerous first week , he should have little trouble taking his third win.

Pogačar’s biggest challenge should come from Jumbo-Visma’s co-captains, Slovenia’s Primož Roglič and Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard, who finished second to Pogačar in 2020 and 2021, respectively. If they can play to one another’s strengths and avoid worrying about which one is their team’s “true” leader, then they might have a chance to dethrone the two-time defending champ.

The INEOS Grenadiers have won seven of the last ten Tours de France with four different riders–so clearly they know what it takes to win the world’s biggest bike race. But Pogačar’s proven to be a tough nut for the British super team to crack. This year we expect them to count on a mix of both old and new in their bid to reclaim the yellow jersey, with co-captains Geraint Thomas, who won the Tour in 2018, and Daniel Martinez, who’s riding only his third Tour and his first as his team’s protected rider, expected to lead the way.

Other riders to keep an eye on include Australia’s Ben O’Connor, Russia’s Aleksandr Vlasov (BORA-hansgrohe), and Colombia’s Rigoberto Uran (EF Education-EasyPost).

Since getting hooked on pro cycling while watching Lance Armstrong win the 1993 U.S. Pro Championship in Philadelphia, longtime Bicycling contributor Whit Yost has raced on Belgian cobbles, helped build a European pro team, and piloted that team from Malaysia to Mont Ventoux as an assistant director sportif. These days, he lives with his wife and son in Pennsylvania, spending his days serving as an assistant middle school principal and his nights playing Dungeons & Dragons.

All 21 stages of the 100th Tour de France will air live on NBC or NBC Sports Network, and digitally via the NBC Sports Tour de France Live app.

NBC Sports Group, the exclusive rights holder of Tour de France coverage in the U.S., will present live and primetime coverage of each stage of the 100th Tour de France, the world’s most prestigious and grueling cycling race, on NBC, NBC Sports Network, NBC Sports Tour de France Live online  and  NBC Sports Tour de France Live mobile apps . Live coverage of the Tour de France begins on NBC Sports Network Saturday, June 29, at 7:30 a.m. ET, and continues each night at 8 p.m. ET with the  Tour Primetime  show featuring a look at the day’s most compelling action with new analysis, interviews, enhanced perspectives and updates on ongoing stories.

New to the coverage is an unprecedented ‘Inside-the-Race’ commentator on motorcycle providing first-hand reports and insight from the course. 

NBC Sports Group’s coverage features:  

All 21 of the stages live on NBC or NBC Sports Network plus  NBC Sports Tour de France Live  online and  NBC Sports Tour de France Live  mobile apps;

NBC Sports Network as the primary home of the Tour de France, offering live coverage nearly every day of the race, and  Tour Primetime,  a nightly studio show from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. ET, through the race’s entirety;

The nightly studio show airing from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network will take a look at the day’s stage with comprehensive analysis, insights and the most compelling storylines. Highlighting  Tour Primetime  will be a full replay of the day’s exciting race action complemented by fresh, post-race interviews with riders, telestrator analysis, and strategy segments.

NBC coverage of Stage 2 (Bastia to Ajaccio) on Sunday, June 30, and live coverage of Stage 8 (Castres to Ax 3 Domaines) on Saturday, July 6, plus a special show on Sunday, July 28 recapping the final stages of the epic race.

Commentators

For the first time, NBC Sports Group’s coverage will feature reporting from the road via ‘Inside-the-Race’ correspondent Steve Porino, who will report and offer updates on race situations from an unprecedented point of view aboard a motorcycle on the race course. ‘Inside-the-Race’ is an innovation from NBC Sports Group to bring fans closer to the action. This unique perspective debuted with NBC’s ‘Inside-the-Glass’ reporter on its NHL telecasts in 2006 and was followed by its ‘Between-the-Benches’ soccer coverage.

Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen, the voices of cycling, will call the race action for the live shows with reporters Steve Schlanger and Carolyn Manno. Todd Harris will host nightly studio coverage with analysts Bob Roll and Scott Moninger. 

Production  

NBC Sports Network will utilize several production features, including a pointer feature which will easily identify and focus on one rider in the peloton; exclusive, in-depth profiles and features on teams and riders; and an onscreen predicted time for the peloton riders who are trying to catch the leading riders. 

Digital Coverage

NBC Sports Group will surround its on-air coverage with the  NBC Sports Tour de France Live , cycling content online at NBCSports.com , and through the  NBC Sports Tour de France Live  mobile app. The network will offer users two premium-subscription products which will give fans a multi-platform, all-encompassing viewing experience to the Tour.  

NBC Sports Tour de France Live  offers live streaming video of every stage online in full HD, with the ability to pause, rewind and slow-mo the video. While watching live coverage, viewers will also have access to a live GPS tracking map to follow the riders’ progress or to see an enhanced interactive map for each stage. Also, subscribers can personalize their Tour experience by choosing their favorite riders and teams to track throughout the Tour. To experience the Tour de France on-the-go, fans can also separately purchase the  NBC Sports Tour de France Live  mobile app, which is available for iPhone and iPad, as well as Android devices.

Pull on those racing gloves and pop some popcorn, it's time to watch the Tour de France 2022. The most exciting bike race of the year starts on July 1st in Copenhagen with over 215 cyclists set to compete. 21 stages of the race will take place over 24 days, with the competitors traveling across both flat and mountainous terrain in Denmark and France with a few stops in other countries along the way. 

Tour de France fans in the UK will be able to watch the race live on ITV4, while American viewers will need to log into a streaming service such as Peacock , USA Network (via Sling TV) or YouTube TV to witness all the action as it happens. Some of the streaming services that offer access to NBC Sports (and the Tour de France) include Peacock's Premium plan, YouTube TV, Sling TV Blue, and fuboTV. Check to see if these services offer any kind of free trial during the race, and consider using a VPN if you're having trouble signing into your account due to location or network restrictions.

Peacock | Starting at $4.99/month

NBC's streaming service Peacock is the official home of the 2022 Tour de France in the United States. Although there is a free plan available, live broadcasts and most sporting events are only available when you sign up for Peacock Premium ($4.99/month) or the Peacock Plus plan ($9.99/month). 

Although the latter plan is advertised as ad-free, expect to see some commercials during special events like the Tour de France. The race is scheduled to start on July 1st at 8am ET / 5am PT. 

How to watch the 2022 Tour de France in the UK

ITV4 and the ITV Hub | Free for UK residents

Cycling fans in the UK are lucky enough to watch all of the excitement live on ITV4 or through the affiliated streaming site ITV Hub, all you need to do is log into your account and you'll be ready to start streaming the race. Stage 1 of the Tour de France will kick off on 1st July at 2:30pm BST . 

How to watch the 2022 Tour de France from anywhere

The city of light provides the most prestigious setting for the finish of the Tour de France, the final circuit having become more dramatic still since the peloton was invited to pass in front of the Louvre... thrills are guaranteed for all of the giants who finish the Tour. One of them then experiences a moment of absolute bliss: winning on the Champs-Élysées is the ultimate achievement for sprinters. Mark Cavendish remains the record holder with four wins, while the prestigious stage has gone to seven different riders in the last seven seasons: André Greipel (2016), Dylan Groenewegen (2017), Alexander Kristoff (2018), Caleb Ewan (2019), Sam Bennett (2020), Wout van Aert (2021) and Jasper Philipsen (2022). Since then, the city has become a cycling capital thanks to the velodrome that was opened there in 2014. It not only welcomes the most important track cycling events on the calendar on a regular basis, but is also the headquarters of the French Cycling Federation. This was the case in October with the World Championships and it will be the case again with 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is helpful, but it isn’t everything.

Navigation can be confusing and searching particular riders can be awkward. Developers could do more in terms of updating daily stats and giving more detailed info on the course and points to really look out for during the stages. Otherwise I find it an invaluable addition to my Tour watching.

Stage routes and profiles access problems

Routes and profiles for stages only seem to be accessible for future stages, and then on an absurd timer! For future stages, clicking “Stage of the day” displays the profile, but on a timer, so it automatically advances to the route map, which then closes after a few seconds! That is completely absurd. Plus you cannot turn the screen and get landscape mode, nor can you zoom in on either one. The only way I’ve found to get a longer view is to take a screen shot, but the resolution is poor. For completed stages even this much isn’t available—no Stage button. The app wants to push videos etc. instead. Developer, please at least let users pause and view profiles and maps for all stages! EDIT: I found how to access maps and profiles without the crazy timed view. You have to scroll down the page and down there is a Stage of the Day section. For past stages you have to scroll over a ways in that section. Can zoom a little on the map. But why did it take that degree of hunting around to find it? Really there should be links from the overall tour map to each stage.

Please been asking these 3 things for several years

Three things I’ve been asking for servers years 1) please allow us to backswipe gesture from individual riders on the rankings page back to the rankings instead of having to precisely click the x button 2) please keep our place when clicking on a rider on the rankings page when scrolled down. Currently you’ll scroll down to the rider in 20th and then it always bumps you back to the top and you lose your place 3) when you launch the app, there is always a splash screen ad that sticks around for 5-10 seconds. Can you please have an x button to exit right away

The Tour de France is broadcast on ITV and British Eurosport in the UK and there are loads of ways to follow the action on TV, computer, phone and tablet.

The ITV Player app for Android and iOS has a well-earned bad reputation and is best avoided if possible. On Android there is no live streaming of any ITV channels, so watching the Tour de France live on your Android phone or tablet is out of the question. 

On iOS ITV Player does support free live streaming of the Tour de France. Simply download the app and start streaming.

PC and Mac users can watch the Tour de France on the ITV Player .

If you get your TV through Sky or Virgin Media then you can use their apps to watch the Tour de France live on Android and iOS in excellent quality. Download either Sky Go ( Android and iOS ) or Virgin TV Anywhere ( Android and iOS ).

Alternatively you can use an unofficial streaming app for Android. On the days when the Tour de France is being broadcast live on ITV1 you can use the excellent TVCatchup .
