Australian-Canadian country star Gord Bamford is bringing his Candian Dirt concert tour to Pembroke later this month in support of the Robbie Dean Counselling Centre.

The all-ages fundraising concert is slated for the night of Oct. 27 at the Germania Club Hall on Bennett Street in the city.

It was back in 2014, at the inaugural Jason Blaine Charity Golf Classic, that Bamford developed a great fondness for Pembroke and formed many lasting friendships.

Although born in Australia Bamford has always considered Alberta his true home. Following his parents’ divorce, he relocated to Lacombe at the tender age of five. Presently, he and his family reside on a rural estate adjacent to a lake in Bashaw.

For his 11th studio album Fire It Up, which was released in the spring of 2023, in the opening track titled Canadian Dirt he made a conscious decision to pay tribute to his immediate surroundings. This song was among the first compositions he collaborated on via Zoom during the pandemic, partnering with Phill O’Donnell, a Canadian expatriate based in Nashville. It seamlessly blends a sense of patriotic pride with a touch of wistful nostalgia, sentiments that have long been favored by Nashville and mainstream American country artists in general.

“I was reflecting on where I was at that point in my life, out on the lake here in Alberta,” Bamford said in an interview with Postmedia. “I was feeling really lucky to somewhat be isolated in those times where I could somewhat be normal. If I had lived in the city … I mean at some point we weren’t allowed to leave our houses. So I’m up here able to do my own thing during those times. I just really appreciated the land I lived on, the place I call home. We were looking for a really cool Canadian theme song that we could put out.”

Dallas Alexander, a Canadian military veteran and singer-songwriter also hailing from Alberta, will be joining Gord to open the Pembroke show. Alexander was raised on a Metis settlement and his Canadian upbringing is reflected in his music which features stories that he likes to sing about. After gaining experience performing in barrooms, Alexander made his festival debut in 2022. He draws inspiration from some of country music’s greats including Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Jamey Johnson.

Part One of Bamford’s Canadian Dirt tour covered Western Canada and had him on the road from April through the end of July.

The second leg of his Canadian Dirt tour launched in September and will extend through Eastern Canada until November, with stops planned across Ontario and in the Maritimes.

“Part One of the tour has been a blast so far,” Bamford said. “We’ve been playing some of the new music for fans. In the set we’ve included a real cool medley with some of my favourite hits, which fans are really enjoying. The show is high energy and entertaining. See ya out on the road.”

Throughout the last decade, Bamford has established a devoted following and has been bestowed with 26 Canadian Country Music Association Awards (CCMA), encompassing triumphs in Album of the Year, Single of the Year, and Male Artist of the Year categories, in addition to garnering numerous JUNO Award nominations.

Award-winning country artist Gord Bamford releases his new album Fire It Up and tickets for his Canadian Dirt Tour are on sale

On April 28, multiple CMA and 26x CCMA Award-winning artist  Gord Bamford  shared his 11 th studio album, Fire It Up, via Anthem Records. The album is a musically robust collection that appeals to audiences around the world with stand-alone singles and arena anthems. It’s a ten-track collection that includes a song for every kind of country music lover – from the dance-along, tongue-in-cheek “Sober In A Drinkin’ Song” to reminiscing on ballpark days in “Cooperstown” and Bamford offering wise romantic advice with “Date Her.”

About the album, Bamford shares,

“This album has been in the making for a while and I feel this is some of my best work yet. Each time you play music for an audience, it becomes new; it is an exquisite moment because of the audience and the situation that allows us to be in that moment. The title of the album truly exemplifies where I am in my career and I’m feeling in many ways like I’m just getting started!”

Bamford knows how to get listeners pumped up with the title track “Fire It Up,” for which he shares,

“This song has such great energy and a fresh sound that I’m very enthusiastic to share and perform for my fans.
