It.s a Marathi establishment and anyone out side it will be like fish out of water.I had this experience and believe me I felt like an untouchable.Horrible . The language of conversation is also Marathi.

I am totally unhappy with Thomas Cook, on trip to Andamans they put me in terrible hotel at port Blair , a room with just a bed ( called it 3 star), did not give time for lunch on one segment, being diabetic that became a serious concern

Did not take us to many tourist attractions though was mentioned in their list, Claimed these were COMPLEMENTARY AND HENCE WE SHOULD COVER IT ON OUT OWN. This was mentioned in the offer letter. Did not give the iteneary till the last .

In short package was grossly mis- sold. Did not expect that from a number one tour operater. Could not even connect to them on phone after the money was paid.

However, the sector is getting back to its feet again. In 2021, India’s Ministry of Tourism recognized 25 Domestic Tour Operators, 6 Tourist Transport Operators, 19 Domestic Tour Operators, and 3 Adventure Tour Operators . New Delhi and Maharashtra are the leaders in the overall number of recognized travel trade service providers.

The top tour operators in India continue to play a vital role in recuperating the travel sector in the country. The recorded number of domestic tourist visits in 2021 was 2.3 billion, which is 25.3% more than the last year. The foreign exchange earnings from tourism also registered a 5.1% growth and amounted to $30.06 billion .

At the current rate, it is projected that tour operators in India will hit over 70% of pre-Covid revenue by 2023 . While there is still a long way ahead, this is an excellent sign that even though the operators took the blow, they are still managing to source attractive products and do business. The main factors contributing to these developments are continued demand recovery, business process optimization with a focus on cost-efficiency, and technology adoption.

India’s tour operators enable small travel agencies to do business through online channels and deliver value-added services to travelers. In 2020, there were over 250,000 small-sized travel agents in India sourcing travel products and services from some of the leading tour operators in the market.

Inbound tourism stats follow the same trends. In 2020, the sector recorded 2.74 million Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs), 3.59 million Arrivals of Non-Residents Indians (NRIs), and 6.33 million International Tourist Arrivals (ITAs). In 2018, these numbers were 10.56 million, 6.87 million, and 17.42 million, respectively.

How many tour operators are there in India?

This is not an easy question to answer if we have to provide the exact number, but it becomes easy if we use approximates. According to the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) , there are 792 registered members.  

It simply means that at least 792 tour operators are working in India because other tour operators are not members of ADTOI. They also create and offer their packages to travel agents and OTAs. For instance, the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) and Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) also have several hundreds of tour operators as members.

Description: Musafir is one of the leading internet-based tour operators present in multiple markets, including India . Besides standard products the operators offer, such as flight tickets and hotel bookings, Musafir also handles VISA application processes.

No Nation in the World Is Buying More Planes Than India. Here’s Why.

While most Indians travel by road or rail, the country is engaged in a major expansion of its aviation industry to serve the needs of its middle class.

No nation in the world is buying as many airplanes as India. Its largest airlines have ordered nearly 1,000 jets this year, committing tens of billions of dollars to a spending spree that is unparalleled in aviation. In New Delhi, Indira Gandhi International Airport will be ready for 109 million passengers next year, as it prepares to become the world’s second busiest, behind Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States.

And this is happening in a vast country still heavily reliant on trains — with 20 journeys by rail for every one by air.

The enormous aviation build-out, with a surge of investment behind it, has pride of place in India’s case for a greater standing on the world stage. As it moves up the ranks of the world’s biggest economies, India is scrambling to meet the expanding ambitions of its ascendant middle class. Its airports present highly visible achievements.

Air travel remains out of the financial reach of most Indians. An estimated 3 percent of the country’s population flies on a regular basis. But in a nation of 1.4 billion people, that percentage represents 42 million — executives, students and engineers who yearn to get quickly from here to there inside India’s borders, and to gain easier access to destinations beyond, for both business and vacation.

Kapil Kaul, the chief executive of CAPA India, an advisory firm focused on aviation, calls “the next two to three years critical for achieving the quality of growth that India desires and deserves.” Growth has so far been profitless. Now Indian aviation must prove it can make money.

The effects of the spending spree should redound across India’s economy. Cargo comes with passenger traffic, and foreign investment tends to follow closely behind, Mr. Kaul said.

Arrivals to the international terminal at Indira Gandhi Airport are greeted by a wall of giant sculptural hands, their fingers and palms folded into gestures used by the Buddha, looking both ancient and futuristic. In 2012, when they were installed, 30 million passengers passed through the airport. By the time the airport has expanded to its new capacity, another one will have been built from scratch on the other side of the city.

Indira Gandhi Airport is racing to get bigger. In July it added a fourth runway and opened an elevated taxiway. The company that operates it, GMR Airports, took over in 2006, a time when all arrivals walked past cows lazing in the dust to reach a taxi stand. By 2018 the facility was rated as India’s most valuable infrastructural asset. To spare the use of jet fuel, a battery-powered TaxiBot lugs idling planes around the tarmac. An automated luggage-handling system can sort 6,000 bags an hour.

Two beneficiaries of India’s expanding aviation market are the world’s largest airplane makers: Boeing in America and Airbus in Europe. In February, Air India, which the Tata Group took private last year, agreed to buy 250 planes from Airbus and 220 from Boeing, worth a combined $70 billion. In June, IndiGo, the country’s biggest carrier by passengers and flights, ordered 500 new Airbus A320s.

The bulk of the growth of Indian aviation has been among homegrown airlines, which have clocked a 36 percent increase in passengers since 2022. Foreign tourist arrivals are rebounding since the pandemic, but are still relatively scarce, barely topping 10 million in a good year (about the same as Romania). So low-cost carriers are adding new countries to their destinations in order to accommodate India’s demand for foreign tourism. Azerbaijan, Kenya and Vietnam are all a direct flight from Delhi or Mumbai, India’s financial capital, for less than 21,000 rupees, or $250, one way.

The air corridor between Delhi and Mumbai was already one of the world’s 10 busiest. Like Delhi, Mumbai has new airport terminals that would be the envy of any city in America, not to mention the glorious new all-bamboo Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, a city in southern India. But the expansion in infrastructure is not limited to the country’s premier metropolitan areas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government likes to point out that the number of airports has doubled in the nine years since he took office, to 148 from 74. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Mr. Modi’s aviation minister, said there would be at least 230 by 2030. The government has invested more than $11 billion in airports over the past decade, and Mr. Scindia has promised another $15 billion.

That means that sleepy towns like Darbhanga, a former principality in the impoverished state of Bihar in eastern India, now have nonstop access to Delhi, Bengaluru and beyond. For many of the 900 travelers a day who fill its flights, including plenty from nearby Nepal, the new airport has transformed the journey.

Prasanna Kumar Jha, 52, was born in Darbhanga but works in Delhi as a tax consultant. “Who ever expected that Darbhanga would be on the air map?” he asked. Flying to his hometown on short notice to see his ailing mother cost him 10,500 rupees ($126), which pinched.

“But if you calculate the alternative — by train from Delhi and then taxi to Darbhanga — it will take at least 30 hours,” he said. “The plane journey is no longer a luxury but a necessity.”

Darbhanga’s airport is a far cry from New Delhi’s. There is no parking lot. Passengers walk from the edge of a highway past a checkpoint to wait on benches outside the terminal. Then they wait on another set of outdoor benches after clearing the security check. But it works.

Another passenger on the same flight at Darbhanga, Ajay Jha, was cradling his 1-year-old daughter, Saranya, as he stood near the rudimentary baggage claim. His family was on the last leg of a trip that started in Bellevue, Wash., where he works as an engineer for Amazon, to a family reunion in the Bihari countryside. Traveling halfway around the world took less time than Mr. Jha used to spend getting home from his school in Bengaluru.

Yet a vast majority of Indians cannot afford such conveniences. The annual mean income is still less than a single economy-class fare from the United States, and, in this top-heavy economy, most Indians earn much less than that. Middle class, in Indian parlance, indicates somewhere close to the top of the pyramid.

A report by CAPA India, the aviation analysis firm, counted just 0.13 passenger seats per capita in 2019 for Indians, compared with 0.52 for Chinese and 3.03 for Americans. But aviation companies and India’s elected officials look at the low penetration and see opportunity.

A scarcity of competition, in the face of an emerging duopoly between IndiGo and the Tata-led airlines, is one of the new landscape’s most striking features. Smaller competitors keep going bust, most recently Go First, which declared bankruptcy in May. A shortage of pilots, after dozens were poached by bigger companies, forced Akasa Air, a promising upstart, to cancel flights in August.

But supply shortages are not the worst kind of problem to have in today’s global economy. With aviation’s growth in the decade before the pandemic steady at about 15 percent a year, the Indian boom seems all but guaranteed to change the future of aviation worldwide. If the benefits accruing to the winners in India’s economy can be coaxed into trickling outward and downward, the same could go for many other sectors.

International travel insurance is the most sought-after type of policy, but providers also sell domestic coverage and business travel insurance for those who need it. Frequent flyers or students enrolled in study abroad programs can also buy long-term travel insurance in the form of annual or multi-trip plans.

Comprehensive travel insurance can be worth it , especially if you’re traveling internationally and have paid upfront for non-refundable expenses. The same goes for prepaid cruises or vacations for which you’ve booked non-refundable tours, activities or day trips. Buying travel insurance can also be a good idea if you’re traveling to a destination that has seasonal weather issues, such as hurricanes and typhoons.

What is cancel for any reason (CFAR) travel insurance?

“Cancel for any reason (CFAR)” coverage is a policy upgrade that provides a partial refund (typically 50% to 75% of prepaid, non-refundable expenses) if you have to cancel your trip — regardless of what caused your change of heart. In fact, one of the covered reasons is “fear of travel,” which is excluded under a basic travel insurance policy.

Knowing when to buy travel insurance is key if you want this type of coverage. This policy must be purchased within 14 to 21 days of the first trip booking and may increase your trip insurance bill by about 50% upon purchase.

What is trip interruption insurance?

Trip interruption coverage will pay if you need to cut your trip short and go home early for specific reasons. The insurance company will reimburse you for the unused portion of the trip and help you with additional expenses you incur to get home.

These expenses will only be covered, however, if you cancel due to one of the reasons covered by the policy. Examples of covered reasons are the serious illness or death of the policyholder, another traveler covered by the policy or a close relative. A natural disaster at your destination would typically be covered as well.

Travel insurance generally covers a host of common travel issues and mishaps, from accidents to baggage delay.

The following are common trip insurance options and add-ons. Just keep in mind that providers offer different levels of coverage and optional benefits and may even have different names for some of them.

• Trip cancellation insurance: Refunds up to 100% of prepaid, non-refundable travel costs if you cancel an upcoming trip for eligible reasons.
• Trip interruption: Reimburses you for the unused portion of the trip as well as expenses you may incur to get back home. Insurers typically cap reimbursement at 150% of the cost of the interrupted trip.
• Travel delays: Reimburses you if you must incur extra expenses such as meals or lodgings during a delay. Insurers may also cover airport delays and any flight change fees necessary to catch up on your travel plans.
• Emergency medical expenses: Travel medical insurance reimburses you for medical expenses incurred during your trip, under certain circumstances. Benefits for medical expenses can range from $15,000 to $50,000. Coverage may apply even if you’re pregnant while traveling.
• Emergency medical evacuation: Reimburses you if you need to be evacuated to the nearest medical facility or to a facility in your country of origin. Maximum benefits usually range between $100,000 to $500,000, but can be as high as $1 million.
• Baggage and personal effects: Refunds the cost of replacement items if your luggage is lost or delayed during your trip. You must typically wait between to to six hours for your baggage before you can file a claim. Insurers typically require purchase receipts or a list of items in the luggage, and coverage may be subject to a deductible.
• Worldwide assistance: Most providers offer 24/7 customer service should you need assistance while traveling. This includes 24/7 multilingual medical hotlines that can provide medical advice and refer you to local healthcare services, if necessary.

Popular travel insurance add-ons

If your coverage needs go beyond what a basic travel insurance policy provides, there are a variety of add-ons or riders that allow you to increase benefit limits and cover activities that may be excluded from standard policies.

Common add-ons include:

• Cancel for any reason coverage: This coverage allows you to cancel your travel plans for any reason (you must cancel with the supplier at least 2-3 days before your trip), and get reimbursed for a percentage of your pre-paid travel costs.
• Pre-existing medical condition waiver : To qualify for this waiver, travelers must purchase coverage within a certain number of days after making their initial trip deposit. The company may also evaluate the travelers’ medical records to ensure their condition hasn’t changed or worsened in the last 60 to 180 days.
• Rental car insurance : This optional policy covers theft of or damages to a rental car due to causes beyond your control (think collisions, vandalism and weather events). Coverage limits vary by state, and the coverage itself may not be available in every international location. You must also verify whether the rental car company accepts this coverage.
• Adventure sports coverage: This rider covers injuries or losses caused by participating in adventure sports such as skydiving or bungee jumping. • Identity theft protection: This optional coverage assists you in notifying creditors, canceling your cards, and getting a replacement for your lost passport, credit card or other important documents.

The most common travel insurance exclusions are:

• Pre-existing medical conditions

• Theft/loss of personal items such as electronic devices and jewelry
• Pregnancy-related conditions
• Injuries that happen while you’re intoxicated with drugs or alcohol, even if the intoxicating substance is legal to use at the destination
• Missed flights, where the traveler is at fault

Travel insurance only pays out if you cancel your trip for approved reasons, such as a serious illness or the death of a family member. You’ll have to add CFAR coverage to your policy if you want the flexibility to cancel for any other reason.

Finally, keep in mind that trip insurance companies may change their coverage at any time. When the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020, many companies temporarily excluded COVID-19 infections from coverage, and might do so again in the future.

What is a pre-existing condition for travel insurance?

Pre-existing conditions are illnesses or injuries diagnosed by a medical professional before you purchased travel insurance.

Travel insurance providers may define pre-existing conditions differently, so ask your insurer about this, even if you qualify for a pre-existing condition waiver . Misunderstanding the terms and conditions of your policy could lead to your claim being denied.

The cost of travel insurance can range from 4% to 12% of the total cost of your trip. Your travel insurance policy’s final price will depend on your age and travel destination as well as the types of coverage and policy limits you select.

We used the online marketplace Travelinsurance.com to get quotes for a family of four (two adults and two children under 17) taking a trip from New York City to London. Let’s say that the family spent $2,200 on four tickets. The cost of insuring all four travelers would range from $90 to a little over $300.

Travel insurance might not cover your visits to certain locations. In fact, most U.S. insurance providers will not cover locations that are currently under a State Department travel advisory or where there is political unrest. Among the countries usually excluded by providers are Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Myanmar and Cuba.

While travel insurance providers generally exclude pandemics (influenza, ebola, zika, etc.), coronavirus coverage is now included in most policies. In fact, all of the insurers on our list offer COVID-19 coverage.
